Division One Boys Soccer State Semifinals Preview.

Written Sunday October 30th at 11:15 PM

Things have been going really well for Adams this fall. The football team is still in the playoffs while volleyball is about to start up districts. The girls golf team won the Division One State title and the boys soccer team is still playing.

There has been mention that this could be the Highlanders best athletic class in a long while.

Adams will play Plymouth Salem on Wednesday at Troy Athens in the Division One State Semifinals with the winner seeing either Rockford or Novi Detroit Catholic Central on Saturday.

The Highlanders used home field to their advantage in the regionals. They had a crazy regional semifinal in which they upset top ranked Troy in penalty kicks and then came back from 2-0 down to beat New Baltimore Anchor Bay in the regional finals.

Adams and Plymouth Salem played earlier in the season with the Highlanders beating the Rocks 3-0 on September 10th.

It should be a very interesting matchup at Troy Athens between these two teams. Whoever wins gets a chance at the Division One State Championship this weekend.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on the Highlanders postseason soccer run.

Week Ten Recap.

Written Friday October 28th at 11:55 PM

Here is the playoff recap.

ADAMS 49, LAKE ORION 35

It was going to be a very tough task for the Dragons on Friday night at Adams but they looked very good offensively against a good Highlanders defense. Parker Picot had a great game for Adams scoring six of the Highlanders seven touchdowns in the game. Adams offensive line was also a big part in the game as well. Lake Orion was very young this season for returning Coach Chris Bell. They have the majority of their team coming back next season. The Highlanders have Rochester looming next week.

ROCHESTER 21, STONEY CREEK 20

In a game that saw one school overcome their city demons for a week. The Falcons came back from a 14-0 halftime deficit to stun the Cougars on Friday night. Alex Bueno threw the winning five yard touchdown pass to Grant Calcagno to tie the game as time expired and Alex Osentowski hit the winning extra point overcoming to give them their first ever postseason win. Rochester has a bigger challenge awaiting them if they can win this one it would be much bigger but it's a tough challenge that awaits them with Adams next week.

CLARKSTON 62, Lapeer 41

The Wolves offense came to play on Friday night. Mike Hein came back from injury and had a big night. Ethan Clark scored three total touchdowns in a 62-41 Big Twelve shootout over the Lightning sending them to their eighth straight loss against them. The Clarkston defense has been a disaster and allowing 41 points will not help things. The Wolves need to be better defensively as they get ready for their rematch with Davison next week.

Detroit Cass Tech 38, WEST BLOOMFIELD 13

In a game in which no one thought would be the outcome Detroit Cass Tech used the big play whether it was the air or on the ground to expose a very good Lakers defense. The Technicians scored on a zone read option in the first quarter and then added 80 yard score to Corey Sadler in the third quarter and just didn't let up. They added a 92 yard touchdown run as well to add to the scoring. LeShawn Mumfield and Sean Hodges had great nights for Detroit Cass Tech. Hodges went over 300 yards and had two 90 plus rushing scores in the game. West Bloomfield was very uncharacteristic with five turnovers, four were interceptions. Kenny Jones added a West Bloomfield touchdown in the second quarter but quarterback Requan Nance whom came back from an hand injury had a rushing score but threw four interceptions in the game. The Lakers lose a lot of talent next season but no one expected this result.

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 58, TROY 0

This was a game that went as expected on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were too much for the Colts. Isiah Marshall played well in the game. Southfield Arts and Tech has Detroit Cass Tech looming in a rematch next week which likely will be Saturday afternoon in Southfield. The Warriors beat the Technicians in week one in overtime 56-54 behind Marshall's eight total touchdowns in that game.

GROVES 43, Warren Mott 7

The Falcons had no issue with Warren Mott on Friday night winning 43-7 in Beverly Hills. Groves had a 43-0 lead at one point. The Falcons have a huge rematch with Seaholm looming in the Maple Forest next week.

SEAHOLM 46, FERNDALE 6

The Maples had no problem with the Eagles on Friday night winning 46-6 at the Maple Forest. Colton Kinnie had three rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown. Granden Kinnie was also solid as well. Kyle Robbins had two interceptions for Seaholm in the game. Ferndale had a great season winning the Gold this year. The Maples have arch rival Groves looming next week.

Temperance Bedford 41, FARMINGTON 28

The Falcons had a tough loss to Temperance Bedford on Friday night. Farmington came back from a 28-14 deficit to tie the score at 28-28 in the third quarter but the Mules scored in the middle of the third quarter to take a 34-28 lead and shut down the Falcons offense from then on. Farmington loses a ton of talent next season.

Birmingham Brother Rice 49, AVONDALE 6

It was going to be a tough matchup for the Yellow Jackets on Friday night against Birmingham Brother Rice. The Warriors have outscored Avondale 107-6 in the last two years. The Yellow Jackets should be a very interesting team to watch next season.

Week Ten Picks.

Written Wednesday October 26th at 2:45 PM

Hello to everyone and welcome to the 2022 football season. We will be doing our weekly picks this season so here are the people to get to know.

Sammy Taormina-Host OAA Now, Last Three Brain Cells Podcast, known as SANDY DUNES

Scott Burnstein-State Champs host and MIPrepZone writer, known as BURNEY

Keith Dunlap-Special writer at WDIV, known as DUNLAP

Tim English-High School Sports historian, known as TIM

Dan Stickradt-Writer for North Oakland Sports, known as STICK

Sean Cotter-North Farmington Boys Basketball and Walled Lake Western film guy, known as COTTER

SANDY DUNES 87-33

BURNEY 81-39

DUNLAP 86-34

TIM 84-36

STICK 85-35

COTTER 97-23

Lake Orion at Adams: This is a rematch of a 42-21 Highlanders victory a few weeks ago over the Dragons. Lake Orion was the last team to get into the postseason after a 49-21 loss to Saline last week. Adams has been rolling as of late. It should be a very interesting matchup in Rochester on Friday night.

SANDY DUNES: LAKE ORION 17, ADAMS 14.

BURNEY: ADAMS 34, LAKE ORION 24.

DUNLAP: ADAMS 34, LAKE ORION 20.

TIM: ADAMS 27, LAKE ORION 17.

STICK:  ADAMS over LAKE ORION

COTTER: ADAMS 49, LAKE ORION 28.

Rochester at Stoney Creek: This is a rematch of a 43-22 Cougars win over the Falcons two weeks ago. Stoney Creek needed a blocked field goal to beat New Baltimore Anchor Bay 21-20 last week to make the postseason field. Rochester has really struggled against their city rivals historically. If the Falcons want to make the next step they need to beat their city rivals could it start on Friday night???

SANDY DUNES: STONEY CREEK 44, ROCHESTER 28.

BURNEY: STONEY CREEK 25, ROCHESTER 23.

DUNLAP: STONEY CREEK 24, ROCHESTER 21.

TIM: STONEY CREEK 24, ROCHESTER 21.

STICK: STONEY CREEK over ROCHESTER.

COTTER: STONEY CREEK 35, ROCHESTER 13.

Lapeer at Clarkston: The Lightning have been rolling as a program but they have had problems against two teams that has cost them postseason dreams. There is a team from Davison which they are 3-7 in their last 10 games against the Cardinals. The other team they have had problems with is a team from Flemings Lake Road. That team from Flemings Lake Road has won seven straight games over Lapeer. They had a 41-6 lead at one point in their game and recently won 48-13 two weeks ago in Lapeer County. If the Lightning want to make the next step and have a deep postseason run as a program they need to figure out their Wolf problem.

SANDY DUNES: CLARKSTON 55, LAPEER 13.

BURNEY: CLARKSTON 30, LAPEER 20.

DUNLAP: CLARKSTON 31, LAPEER 21.

TIM: CLARKSTON 32, LAPEER 17.

STICK: CLARKSTON over LAPEER.

COTTER: CLARKSTON 42, LAPEER 21.

Troy at Southfield Arts and Tech: This is a great matchup for the Warriors and a horrible matchup for the Colts. Troy hasn’t seen the competition that Southfield Arts and Tech has seen and they haven’t seen the quarterback like they will with Isiah Marshall. The Colts defense should be tested in this game. It’s very odd that these teams are playing on Saturday afternoon, I just don’t get it.

SANDY DUNES: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 84, TROY 0.

BURNEY: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 45, TROY 15.

DUNLAP: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 49, TROY 17.

TIM: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 49. TROY 3.

STICK: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH over TROY.

COTTER: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 49, TROY 3.

Detroit Cass Tech at West Bloomfield: I still can’t believe this matchup is happening in the first round but at least this game is in the Swamp. I think this is media related (ala State Champs) but that’s my opinion. The Technicians are the defending Detroit Public School League champs and have just beat Detroit Martin Luther King two weeks ago and Birmingham Brother Rice last week. The Lakers have been rolling despite being injured and missing key players but they are expected to have several key players coming back for this game. This should be a very interesting game on Bally Sports Detroit being their game of the week.

SANDY DUNES: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, DETROIT CASS TECH 21.

BURNEY: WEST BLOOMFIELD 32, DETROIT CASS TECH 30.

DUNLAP: WEST BLOOMFIELD 34, DETROIT CASS TECH 27.

TIM: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, DETROIT CASS TECH 28.

STICK: WEST BLOOMFIELD over DETROIT CASS TECH.

COTTER: WEST BLOOMFIELD 35, DETROIT CASS TECH 28.

Ferndale at Seaholm: This is an interesting matchup of two teams with different styles. The Maples have won six straight over the Eagles coming into this game. Ferndale have been battling adversity all season. They were was the last team to make the postseason in Division Two. Seaholm has lost two straight coming into this game. It should be a very interesting game in the Maple Forest.

SANDY DUNES: SEAHOLM 24, FERNDALE 6.

BURNEY: SEAHOLM 31, FERNDALE 28.

DUNLAP: SEAHOLM 28, FERNDALE 7.

TIM: SEAHOLM 42, FERNDALE 7.

STICK: SEAHOLM over FERNDALE.

COTTER: SEAHOLM 42, FERNDALE 6.

Warren Mott at Groves: This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams with very different styles. These two teams were supposed to play in 2020 but the Falcons have to forfeit the game because they had an ineligible player. Groves is a much different team. They earned a 14-7 win over Seaholm last week. Warren Mott has not played the schedule that Groves has but the Marauders are a tough team and well coached under Coach Tom Milanov. It should be a very interesting game in Beverly Hills.

SANDY DUNES: GROVES 20, WARREN MOTT 12.

BURNEY: GROVES 29, WARREN MOTT 20.

DUNLAP: GROVES 17, WARREN MOTT 10.

TIM: GROVES 23, WARREN MOTT 10.

STICK: GROVES over WARREN MOTT.

COTTER: GROVES 28, WARREN MOTT 14.

Farmington at Temperance Bedford: This is a tough matchup for the Falcons but they could negate some things that could go against them. Travel is the key for several reasons. If Farmington can get to Temperance early like around 4 PM, get accustom to the surroundings, and overcome the traffic then it could negate the travel advantage the Mules will have. Temperance Bedford is a very good team. They upset Saline 7-0 a few weeks ago on the road. The Falcons is coming off a very disappointing 35-28 loss to Utica last week. Maybe a trip to Monroe County could help Farmington but it could hurt them as well. As mentioned travel is the key for the Falcons which could be a huge difference between winning and losing this game.

SANDY DUNES: TEMPERANCE BEDFORD 28, FARMINGTON 24.

BURNEY: FARMINGTON 22, TEMPERANCE BEDFORD 21.

DUNLAP: TEMPERANCE BEDFORD 21, FARMINGTON 17.

TIM: FARMINGTON 21, TEMPERANCE BEDFORD 14.

STICK: FARMINGTON over TEMPERANCE BEDFORD.

COTTER: TEMPERANCE BEDFORD 35, FARMINGTON 7.

Birmingham Brother Rice at Avondale: The Yellow Jackets have been rolling in the last two weeks but this will be a big test for Avondale. It’s a rematch of a 58-0 blowout for the Warriors at Wisner Stadium last season. It’s a very difficult matchup for the Yellow Jackets. The only good news for Avondale is that the game is at Dick Bye Field.

SANDY DUNES: BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE 48, AVONDALE 28.

BURNEY: BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE 33, AVONDALE 23.

DUNLAP: BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE 35, AVONDALE 10.

TIM: BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE 24, AVONDALE 7.

STICK: AVONDALE over BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE.

COTTER: BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE 49, AVONDALE 7.

Games that impact OAA Teams

Grand Blanc at Davison: This is a rematch of a 49-14 Cardinals victory over the Bobcats in Davison two weeks ago. These two Genesee County rivals are no strangers to one another whether it's in the postseason or in the Saginaw Valley League. Grand Blanc has really struggled as of late. They have lost three of their last four games. Davison has won seven straight since their loss to Novi Detroit Catholic Central in week two. The Cardinals have beaten the Bobcats seven of the last eight times. This one should be very interesting on D-TV.

SANDY DUNES: DAVISON 42, GRAND BLANC 7.

BURNEY: DAVISON 45, GRAND BLANC 17.

DUNLAP: DAVISON 28, GRAND BLANC 14.

TIM: DAVISON 38, GRAND BLANC 10.

STICK: DAVISON over GRAND BLANC.

COTTER: DAVISON 46, GRAND BLANC 14.

Dearborn Heights Crestwood at Livonia Franklin: These are two proven teams that are coming into the postseason with a ton of confidence. The Patriots have been really impressive winning eight games with their only loss to Belleville 42-14 a few weeks ago. Dearborn Heights Crestwood has won six of their last seven games to get into the postseason. This could be very interesting to see but the Chargers haven’t seen a team like they will with Livonia Franklin.

SANDY DUNES: LIVONIA FRANKLIN 34, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 20.

BURNEY: LIVONIA FRANKLIN 36, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 20.

DUNLAP: LIVONIA FRANKLIN 24, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 20.

TIM: LIVONIA FRANKLIN 31, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 14.

STICK: LIVONIA FRANKLIN over DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD.

COTTER: LIVONIA FRANKLIN 49, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 6.

Detroit Renaissance at Walled Lake Western: This should be a very interesting matchup in Walled Lake. Walled Lake Western has been good record wise, won eight games but they have some mental lapses but it hasn’t cost them any games but it could in the future if not careful. The Warriors are coached by former Farmington coach Kory Cicroch. The Phoenix is coming off a 34-21 loss to Rochester last week. This has trap game written all over it. Walled Lake Western needs to be careful in this game.

SANDY DUNES: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 21, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 20.

BURNEY: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 44, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 23.

DUNLAP: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 27, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 10.

TIM: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 35, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 7.

STICK: WALLED LAKE WESTERN over DETROIT RENAISSANCE.

COTTER: WALLED LAKE WESTERN 49, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 14.

Regional Soccer Preview.

Written Sunday October 23rd at 11:55 PM

Here is my insight heading into the regional rounds surrounding OAA schools.

Region Four @ Adams

TROY vs ADAMS

New Baltimore Anchor Bay vs Fraser

THOUGHTS/PREDICTION: This is a very interesting regional at Adams. The Highlanders host but have a very tough matchup with the Colts. On the other side there is New Baltimore Anchor Bay. The Tars are a proven powerhouse program and they will play the Ramblers of Fraser. I'm seeing a Troy/New Baltimore Anchor Bay regional final with apologizes to the "Gold Rush" I think the Colts get by Adams and the Tars to move onto the State Semifinals. PICK: TROY.

Region Two @ East Lansing

CLARKSTON vs SEAHOLM

Novi Detroit Catholic Central vs Okemos

THOUGHTS/PREDICTION: This is a very interesting regional with three of the four teams having one loss. The fourth team has been State ranked most of the season. I expect the Shamrocks and Okemos will go to penalties to determine who meets Clarkston or Seaholm. I think the Wolves get by the Maples and meet Novi Detroit Catholic Central in the regional finals. I'm going against the norm in this but give me the team that has four losses coming into the regional to win it. PICK: CLARKSTON.

Postseason Thoughts.

Written Sunday October 23rd at 7:40 PM

Here are my thoughts on the postseason matchups that were announced this evening. I will have more coverage on the podcast and more during the week so stay tuned everyone.

Birmingham Brother Rice at AVONDALE: There are some differences from last season compared to this season. This is a rematch of a 58-0 Warriors blowout win over the Yellow Jackets at Wisner Stadium last season. Avondale should be more prepared for Birmingham Brother Rice this time despite being a very tough matchup. This was expected with the winner likely to see Walled Lake Western in the next round.

FARMINGTON at Temperance Bedford: This is an awful matchup for Farmington. They have to travel south on I-275 to I-75 in Monroe County. The Mules are coming off a stunning 7-0 win over Saline two weeks ago. The Falcons have a solid quarterback in Dominic Peshi and running back Cam Pettaway. Either way this is a brutal matchup for Farmington.

FERNDALE at SEAHOLM: This is a very interesting matchup. The Eagles were the last team to get into the postseason in Division Two after winning 54-21 over St. Clair Shores South Lake last week. Seaholm has won five of the last six meetings over Ferndale. The Maples have lost two straight games to close the season. It’s a tough matchup for Ferndale going up against the veer but it’s an opportunity for the Eagles to see if they can matchup against a very good team.

Warren Mott at GROVES: The Falcons earned a big 14-7 win over Seaholm last week not only just to get into the postseason but they get a home game out of this. Groves couldn’t play Warren Mott in the postseason a few years ago because they played an ineligible player and had to forfeit that game. The Marauders really haven’t played the competition that the Falcons have so this is a great matchup for Groves in Beverly Hills.

TROY at SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH: The Warriors got a great first round matchup with the Colts. Southfield Arts and Tech is riding with a ton of confidence heading into the postseason and is coming off a huge 28-21 win over River Rouge last week. Troy has not seen the competition or the quarterback like they will in Isiah Marshall. Expect their defense will be tested. It could be a long night for the Colts in this matchup.

Detroit Cass Tech at WEST BLOOMFIELD: I’m in absolute shock and in horror that the MHSAA unless this is media related which I think it is that they would send Detroit Cass Tech northwest to the Swamp to take on the Lakers. This game ended up being the "Ballys Sports Game of the Week." The good news for West Bloomfield is that they should have Requan Nance and Semaj Morgan coming back but this is not the matchup that I expected them to get. At least the game is in the Swamp and not on the road.

ROCHESTER at STONEY CREEK: The Falcons have had their problems against their city rivals in Adams and Stoney Creek. They will get one of them in Stoney Creek. It is also a rematch of a 43-22 Cougars win over Rochester two weeks ago that game was also at Stoney Creek. There are a ton of storylines in this game as well especially with Coach Nick Merlo going up against alum school. Rochester needs to exercise their city demons. This could be a start.

LAKE ORION at ADAMS: This is a very interesting matchup and a rematch of two Red rivals. Not to mention that the Dragons and Highlanders met a few weeks ago in Lake Orion with Adams coming out on top 42-21. The Highlanders have been rolling on all cylinders ever since their loss to Clarkston. The Dragons really struggled against Saline. Lake Orion is a team that is playing with nothing to lose.

Lapeer at CLARKSTON: The Lightning have had a Wolves problem in the last seven meetings. This is  a rematch of a 48-13 Clarkston rout of Lapeer two weeks ago. Ethan Clark had four touchdowns in that game. This game is at the Wolves Den which they have only played three games on their home field this season. If I’m the Lightning I am absolutely sick and tired of playing the Wolves and they get them again. If Clarkston wins this game then they could play Davison in the district finals.

Possible Postseason Matchup Outcomes.

Written Sunday October 23rd at 12:00 PM

Happy selection Sunday to everyone. The teams are officially set for the postseason but not the matchups that comes later tonight on Bally Sports Detroit at 6 PM. The MHSAA has been very unpredictable when it comes to district matchups so I tried with the help of Snooze2you's playoff map and my projections to try to see the possible outcomes come later tonight. I will analyze the matchups on the blog and the podcast this week.

Here are the possible outcomes and the teams.

Adams: The Highlanders are looking like they could be in line to get back to Ford Field if things go right. They could very likely see Lake Orion in the first round. The Dragons and Highlanders have had some battles and it was tight in the first half before Adams pulled away late in their regular season matchup at Lake Orion. It’s a dangerous matchup if it’s Lake Orion but who knows if the MHSAA were to take Lake Orion north and have them play Davison but it’s not likely. On the other side it could be either Stoney Creek, Rochester, or possibly Romeo and if it’s the Bulldogs that could be a very tricky matchup for Coach Tony Patritto if they were to meet.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers are in a very similar spot to last season when it comes to the postseason. They will likely see Novi in the first round and be in a district with Novi Detroit Catholic Central and Northville. I don’t see them being in a district with Troy even though the MHSAA could do that. Either way pending if West Bloomfield were to get Novi and then Novi Detroit Catholic Central or Northville it is very possible they could get to a regional that gets them north or south. Either way Coach Tyrice Grice’s program is in a great spot come postseason time.

Clarkston: The Wolves are riding red hot right now. Clarkston could likely have a rematch with Lapeer but this time it would be at Clarkston. The Lightning have lost seven straight to the Wolves and two straight which started against Clarkston. The tradeoff would be playing at Davison in the district finals pending if the Cardinals get by likely being Grand Blanc. Davison beat Clarkston in week one after the Cardinals torched the Wolves defense in Ann Arbor. I don’t see the MHSAA sending Clarkston south or east, it would be a shock if they do that but the likely district for the Wolves will be a district that has Davison, Lapeer, and Grand Blanc. WNEM, WJRT, and WEYI Sports reporters better get used to Coach Justin Pintar’s team.

Lake Orion: The Dragons were the last team to make the Division One postseason field after playing a really difficult schedule which all five of their losses came to postseason teams. They will most likely see Adams in the first round which is a very tough matchup. The MHSAA could send Coach Chris Bell’s team to Davison but it seems very unlikely. Lake Orion is playing with nothing to lose and everything to gain in the postseason.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars have two possibilities in the postseason. Snooze2you has Stoney Creek hosting Rochester which would be a great matchup for the Cougars but I feel the most likely outcome would be sending Coach Nick Merlo’s team to Dan Barnabo Field to play Romeo which would be a very difficult matchup for the Cougars because of the playoff points. Either way it’s a tough path for Stoney Creek going forward.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors are back in the postseason and they could do some damage. Most of the experts have Southfield Arts and Tech having a rematch with Detroit Cass Tech in the first round. The Warriors beat the Technicians 56-54 in week one but there was some controversy because the game was played at Lawrence Tech but fan issues caused the game to be moved to Southfield but with no fans. If this were the matchup then it could be the very same possibility. There were others but it didn’t add up. The most likely outcome could be that Southfield Arts and Tech plays Detroit Cass Tech but it’s possible a Macomb County team like Chippewa Valley comes south but not likely either way the Warriors will be at home for round one.

Rochester: The Falcons got into the postseason with a 38-21 win over Detroit Renaissance last week. It is the first time since 2010 not counting the COVID era that Rochester has made the postseason. The big problem for Coach Eric Vernon has been their city rivals Adams and Stoney Creek which they have really struggled against. According to Snooze2you he has the Falcons playing Stoney Creek which would be an interesting matchup but I’m seeing from a playoff point perspective is Rochester traveling to Macomb Dakota to play the Cougars which would be a much tougher matchup. The Falcons will have it tough either way in the postseason whether they stay close or go east.

Groves: The Falcons needed a win over their arch rivals to get into the postseason and got it with a 14-7 win over Seaholm last week. There are a few options for Groves to see where the MHSAA puts them for the postseason. They could have a rematch with Seaholm again which is very possible. Others say they could play Warren Mott which I don’t think is likely. As a sleeper, it could be Farmington which could be a very interesting matchup. Either way there are options to see where Coach Brendan Flaherty’s team go this postseason.

Seaholm: The Maples have been really struggling in the last two weeks but they are in the postseason. It depends whom they could see but it will likely be in front of the Maple Forest. Some of the experts are projecting Ferndale which would be a very interesting matchup but there are others that see a rematch with arch rival Groves. Either way it’s a tough matchup for Seaholm but if Coach Jim DeWald’s team can find that magic that got them their unbeaten record prior to playing Farmington then the Maples could be in for a long postseason run.

Farmington: The Falcons really blew their chance at getting a home game with a 35-28 loss to Utica last week. The experts have Coach Jason Albright’s team either heading to Waterford or to Temperance. If they head to Temperance it’s a tough matchup especially with the travel from I-275 to I-75 in Monroe County or the MHSAA could be very nice to Farmington and send them north to Waterford to play Waterford Mott. The Corsairs are solid and have a very good quarterback. Groves could be a possible sleeper if the MHSAA sends them that way. Either way it’s a tough matchup for the Falcons whether they go south or north.

Troy: The Colts are a very interesting team to see where they go this postseason. They had a home game with Chippewa Valley but was embarrassed by the Big Reds last season. Troy has several options where the MHSAA could send them. The most likely outcome could be is that they head south to Dearborn to play the Pioneers. Other possibilities included to send them west to play West Bloomfield or even east to deal with Macomb County although it’s not likely. Likely Coach Chris Fraiser’s team could head to Dearborn which is a very interesting matchup but in a district with Southfield Arts and Tech and Detroit Cass Tech yikes.

Ferndale: The Eagles were the last team in Division Two after their 54-21 win over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore on Friday night. Ferndale has several places where they could go into the postseason. According to Snooze2you’s postseason map he has them going to Seaholm to play the Maples. I see them heading to Livonia to play Livonia Franklin. Either way it’s a very tough matchup for Coach Eric Royal and his program but there is a reason why the Eagles have played a really difficult non league schedule which included Grand Rapids West Catholic and for that reason.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets are in the postseason for the second straight year in Division Three but it is looking to be a tough task. Looking at their possible postseason opponents, they will likely be at Dick Bye Field facing Birmingham Brother Rice. If they were to get by the Warriors then they would play Walled Lake Western in the district finals, either way it will be a tough matchup for sure if that happens but Birmingham Brother Rice will be a very tough challenge like they were last season for Coach Corey Bell and Avondale.

Pontiac has a new Boys Basketball Coach.

Written Wednesday December 11th at 9:00 PM The Pontiac Phoenix made a surprising coaching move before the season began according to sources....
