Postseason Matchups and Thoughts.

Written Sunday October 26th at 6:25 PM

Will have more on these matchups on the podcast.

HARPER WOODS vs Macomb Lutheran North: The Pioneers are hoping to put last week's 21-17 win over Mason behind them. Harper Woods has two monster road wins at Clarkston and Saline but they will have everyone coming to Beaconsfield Street until the State Semifinals. The Pioneers should have no issue with anyone in their district (Center Line or Harper Woods Chandler Park) but they could if or when Dearborn Divine Child comes to Harper Woods. This set up bodes well for the Pioneers.

WATERFORD MOTT at Midland Dow: This was a matchup that I thought of earlier in the week with the Corsairs then I thought, this is a great matchup for Waterford Mott despite having to go to Midland Community Stadium. The Chargers have not played the schedule that Waterford Mott with their only loss coming to Mount Pleasant. This should be a very interesting matchup for Coach Tra'Jan Seay and the Corsairs. Travel is key for Seay, the earlier north the better especially with traffic on Interstate 75 and US-10. Whoever wins this matchup will get either East Lansing or Lakeland in the district finals which if it's Waterford Mott, it's a great matchup for them.

NORTH FARMINGTON vs Orchard Lake St. Marys: This is a rematch of a 42-7 Eaglets blowout at Ron Holland Field last season. The Eaglets have been strong but so has been the Raiders. North Farmington does have some experience which helps but this is a very tough matchup for the Raiders seeing Orchard Lake St. Marys. Whoever wins will see either Walled Lake Western or Birmingham Brother Rice. This is going to be a tough matchup for the Raiders.

GROVES vs Warren Mott: This was a likely possibility with the Falcons seeing the Marauders in the first round. Groves has really performed well despite losing a ton of experience. Whoever wins this game will see Seaholm or Warren Cousino in the district finals. This is a great matchup for the Falcons having two home games in Beverly Hills. They would not have home field if they have to play Grosse Pointe South.

SEAHOLM at Warren Cousino: This was a likely matchup and a great draw for the Maples. Warren Cousino has not played a team that runs the veer like Seaholm which this game really interesting despite it being in Warren. Whoever wins this game will see Groves or Warren Mott in the district finals. This is a great matchup as mentioned for Seaholm.

WEST BLOOMFIELD vs Brighton: The Lakers have a very interesting matchup with the Bulldogs. Brighton is very physical. If West Bloomfield can get by Brighton then they would be looking at Novi Detroit Catholic Central in a rematch of a 41-14 Shamrocks win in the district finals over the Lakers last season. This will not be an easy matchup though for West Bloomfield.

ADAMS vs ROCHESTER: The Falcons had things rough in the middle of the season and they needed to win against Monroe which they did to get into the postseason. Rochester will have a rematch with arch rival Adams which makes this very interesting. The Highlanders won 31-3 in week two and has beaten the Falcons 29 straight times (last Rochester win was 1996.) This should be a very interesting matchup with the winner seeing Stoney Creek or Utica Eisenhower in the district finals.

STONEY CREEK vs Utica Eisenhower: These are two schools that are separated by five miles. The Eagles will be taking the short trip to Stoney Creek to play the Cougars. This is not the same Utica Eisenhower program as in the past. Stoney Creek has been on an upward trajectory. Getting a home game is huge for the Cougars when experts had them being sent to Romeo or Adams but this is a much better matchup for Stoney Creek seeing a rival to the east and sending them west. This should be a fun matchup with the winner getting Adams or Rochester in the district finals.

FARMINGTON vs Dearborn Fordson: The Falcons are in Division One and got a home game out of it playing the Tractors of Dearborn Fordson. This is a good matchup for Coach Jason Albrecht and Farmington with Dearborn Fordson having to travel and has a new coaching staff. Whoever wins this matchup will have Detroit Cass Tech or Northville in the district finals.

OXFORD at Grand Blanc: The Wildcats will get a chance to get some revenge when they head back into Genesee County and play Grand Blanc. The Bobcats beat Oxford 29-7 in the district finals last season. The Wildcats will have to contend with a lethal Grand Blanc offense that can give anyone problems. The winner will play Clarkston or Davison in the district finals. This will be a very tough matchup for Oxford.

CLARKSTON vs Davison: These are two teams that are no strangers to one another. The Wolves have won four of the last five meetings with three of them being in the postseason. The Cardinals have a stout offense and the defense has been solid under former Waterford Mott coach Chris Fahr but Clarkston is a different animal, having played a tougher schedule than Davison. The Wolves have home field which helps which they could have Grand Blanc, Oxford, or Novi Detroit Catholic Central having to come to Clarkston. Home field and having the most postseason points helps the Wolves but can they get it done is the question. The Wolves need to be careful of the Cardinals because Grand Blanc could loom in the district finals pending if they don't get beat by Oxford and down the road Novi Detroit Catholic Central is there as well.

Volleyball District Matchups.

Written Sunday October 26th 3:41PM

Here are the volleyball district matchups.

Five Team District

A vs. B (winner plays 2 seed)

C vs. 1 seed

Six Team District

A vs. B (winner plays 2 seed)

C vs. D (winner plays 1 seed)

District 22 @ Orchard Lake St. Mary's

Walled Lake Central vs. Walled Lake Western

Orchard Lake St. Mary's vs. WEST BLOOMFIELD

Walled Lake Central/Walled Lake Western vs. NORTH FARMINGTON

THOUGHTS: This district looks like it is the Eaglets district to lose. I don't see anyone touching Orchard Lake St. Marys.

PICK: Orchard Lake St. Marys over North Farmington

District 24 @ Livonia Stevenson

FARMINGTON vs. Livonia Churchill

Livonia Stevenson vs. Redford Thurston

FARMINGTON/Livonia Churchill vs. Farmington Hills Mercy

Livonia Stevenson/Redford Thurston vs. Novi

THOUGHTS: This has three teams that have shots to win this district. I think the Marlins have the edge but the Wildcats will be there. Also watch for the Spartans they could pose an upset.

PICK: Novi over Farmington Hills Mercy

District 26 @ Southfield Arts and Technology

BERKLEY vs. ROYAL OAK

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY vs. GROVES

BERKLEY/ROYAL OAK vs. OAK PARK

THOUGHTS: This a wide open district, I think that the Falcons have the edge but don't count out the Ravens or Bears. Groves is early favorite to win this district.

PICK: Groves over Berkley

District 27 @ Troy Athens

SEAHOLM vs. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood

TROY vs. TROY ATHENS

SEAHOLM/Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood vs. Birmingham Marian

TROY/TROY ATHENS vs. BLOOMFIELD HILLS

THOUGHTS: This is setting up to be the likely Miss Volleyball candidate against a proven powerhouse that has been there and done. Don't really see anyone touching the Black Hawks or the Mustangs in this district.

PICK: Birmingham Marian over Bloomfield Hills

District 29 @ Oxford

LAKE ORION vs. WATERFORD KETTERING

WATERFORD MOTT vs. CLARKSTON

LAKE ORION/WATERFORD KETTERING vs. OXFORD

THOUGHTS: This is clearly going to be Dragons and Wolves in the district finals. I don't know how the Wildcats got the two seed despite Lake Orion playing a brutal schedule and is in the Red. Oxford was in the White but things are setting up to be Lake Orion and Clarkston with the Wolves having an edge because of experience.

PICK: Clarkston over Lake Orion

District 30 @ Avondale

AVONDALE vs. ROCHESTER

ADAMS vs. STONEY CREEK

AVONDALE/ROCHESTER vs. Utica Eisenhower

ADAMS/STONEY CREEK vs. Romeo

THOUGHTS: This should be a very tough district. I think the Eagles have the early edge but keep an eye on the Cougars and the Bulldogs. The Highlanders are the wildcard. End of the day it's Utica Eisenhower's district to lose.

PICK: Utica Eisenhower over Stoney Creek

District 55 @ Detroit Osborn

Detroit Denby at Detroit East English

Detroit Osborn vs. Detroit Southeastern

Detroit Denby/Detroit East English vs. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy

Detroit Osborn/Detroit Southeastern vs. HARPER WOODS

THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district, I see either Harper Woods or Chandler Park winning this district, I don't see really anyone else that threatens in this district. This could be the Pioneers best chance to win this district.

PICK: Harper Woods over Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy

District 58 @ Macomb Lutheran North

Almont vs. Armada

PONTIAC vs. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

Almont/Armada vs. Macomb Lutheran North

THOUGHTS: Trust in the Irish to win this district, they should have no issues in this district.

PICK: Pontiac Notre Dame Prep over Macomb Lutheran North

Boys Soccer State Semifinal Preview.

Written Friday October 24th at 9:10 AM

Could we have an all OAA Boys Soccer State Final, it's possible with two Red teams in the Final Four. Here are the matchups in Division One for boys soccer.

CLARKSTON vs Portage Central @ Lansing Eastern

The Wolves have been rolling this postseason and it continued in their regional at North Farmington. Clarkston had to get past State power Novi Detroit Catholic Central with a 1-0 win sending the Wolves to their first State Semifinal in a long while. Clarkston will see Portage Central at Lansing Eastern. The Mustangs survived East Kentwood 2-1 in overtime. This should be a very interesting matchup between Clarkston and Portage Central.

TROY ATHENS vs Ann Arbor Huron @ Troy

The Red Hawks have been very subpar this season playing a tough schedule as everyone in the Red does but they are playing their best soccer despite playing their district and regional on their home field. Now they don't get the chance to leave the city until they get to the State Finals as they will play Ann Arbor Huron in the Division One State Semifinals at Troy. Troy Athens beat the Colts 3-1 in the regional finals. The River Rats beat Dearborn Edsel Ford 2-0 in their regional to get to this game. Home field favors the Red Hawks in this game, it will be a true road game for Ann Arbor Huron, that is for sure.

Updated Playoff Thoughts.

Written Wednesday October 22nd at 5:55 PM

Thanks to Snooze2You and Goose Poop for the playoff maps and scenarios. Here are the matchups affecting OAA and future OAA members.

Clarkston: The Wolves are the top team in Division One but the path looks rough. If Snooze2You is right, they could see Davison in the first round which is a tough matchup and eventually Grand Blanc in the district final which is a very brutal matchup for Clarkston. The Wolves could see Oxford, Adams, Hartland, and West Bloomfield which are all better matchups than Davison in the first round and even though they have to see Grand Blanc and if they knock off the Bobcats in the district final pending if they are in that region, Novi Detroit Catholic Central awaits them. It's a brutal but manageable road for Clarkston if things go right.

Oxford: The Wildcats could be in line for a home game if they can beat Macomb Dakota on the road. Snooze2You has Oxford going to Grand Blanc which is a terrible matchup for the Wildcats. Oxford could host Romeo or Stoney Creek which are great matchups. The Wildcats could also go to Clarkston which is also a terrible matchup for them. There are a lot of options for Oxford in the postseason.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers are in a very interesting spot, a lot depends on how they do against Roseville. They could have a home game (Farmington) or go on the road to maybe Grand Blanc which is tough, Brighton which is very winnable, maybe Clarkston, maybe Adams which are tough but familiar matchups even though the Lakers beat the Highlanders in the regular season, there's so many possibilities for West Bloomfield but they want to avoid Novi Detroit Catholic Central at anyways possible especially in the district finals. The Lakers could head east which is the best case which that bracket would go through the Swamp.

Adams: The Highlanders are in a very interesting spot, looking likely they will have two home games but a trip to Clarkston is also a possibility which something Adams does not want. The Highlanders would prefer a district that is east, not west or north.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars are locked into the postseason but it's who they would see is most interesting. Stoney Creek could see Oxford, Utica Eisenhower, or Adams in the first round which are very interesting and winnable matchups. The Cougars could head east which is the better scenario but if they head west that could spell trouble.

Rochester: The Falcons are in a very interesting spot but they have to win first over Monroe. If Rochester can beat Monroe it's a win and in scenario for the Falcons pending if Stoney Creek can beat Ann Arbor Huron which they hold the last spot in Division One. If Rochester gets into the postseason they would see Adams in the first round most likely. It's win and in that's the bottom line.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers are looking at three home games in Division Four. Harper Woods possible postseason opponents could include Macomb Lutheran North, Harper Woods Chandler Park, Center Line, and Madison Heights Lamphere. The Pioneers could see Dearborn Divine Child or Goodrich in the regional final which both teams would have to make the trip to Beaconsfield Street. Harper Woods is in a really good spot pending where the MHSAA sends them.

Groves: The Falcons are in a very interesting spot. If Groves goes east that makes life easier if they see Warren Mott or a Warren Cousino and clash with arch rival Seaholm in the district finals. The Falcons would love to avoid Birmingham Brother Rice or Orchard Lake St. Marys until the later rounds. If Groves has to see one of the Catholic League schools that spells trouble.

Seaholm: The Maples are in a similar spot to their arch rival Groves. They would love to avoid going west at anyway possible. If they head east and see a team like Warren Cousino that is a great matchup and they could see the Falcons in the district finals. If Birmingham Brother Rice or Orchard Lake St. Marys are anywhere near Seaholm that spells trouble.

Farmington: The Falcons have several options when it comes to the postseason. They could go to West Bloomfield or a better option would be southeast to Brownstown to play Brownstown Woodhaven which they would have to see Detroit Cass Tech in the district finals. Also they could host Northville in the first round and see Belleville which looks very favorable. If they head west they could see Novi Detroit Catholic Central. Not good options in the district finals if they get there.

North Farmington: The Raiders are in a very interesting spot. They could see Birmingham Brother Rice or Orchard Lake St. Marys which are terrible matchups. Livonia Franklin is a better option for the Raiders. North Farmington could also go north but Orchard Lake St. Marys and Birmingham Brother Rice is also there along with Waterford Mott. If Snooze2You's map is accurate it could spell trouble for North Farmington.

Waterford Mott: The Corsairs look like they are locked into the postseason. Snooze2You has Waterford Mott playing Lakeland which is a rematch of a 23-21 Eagles win in White Lake. The Corsairs could see Walled Lake Western which is also a great matchup. Waterford Mott does not want to go south which they could see Orchard Lake St. Marys, Birmingham Brother Rice, or North Farmington. The Corsairs would love to go west but they could see Midland Dow too which would be interesting. Overall west is better than east or south.
