Week Fourteen Recap.

Written Saturday November 27th at 4:30 PM

Belleville 55, ADAMS 33: It was a shocker on Saturday afternoon in the Division One State Finals at Ford Field where the Tigers outscored the Highlanders 34-14 in the second half. I was stunned that the Adams defense allowed five passing and a rushing touchdown to quarterback Bryce Underwood and the Belleville offense. The big play capability and playing indoors really hurt Adams in this game. The Tigers forced numerous turnovers and had a blocked punt for a touchdown as well. Brady Prieskorn had an incredible game. He had two receiving touchdowns including a incredible 33 yard passing score. What hurt the Highlanders was lineman Alex DeGrick suffered an ankle injury and did not return to the game. Belleville also pressured quarterback Parker Picot a ton in this game as well. Adams has nothing to be ashamed of. They had a really incredible season. Not many people picked them, this group was resilient and will continue to be whether in sports and in life.

ADAMS vs Belleville: This is shaping up to be a very interesting game between the Highlanders and the Tigers on Saturday afternoon in the Division One State Finals. It is the first ever meeting between the schools. This is Belleville’s first trip to the State Finals in any level. This is Adams second trip to the State Finals with the first being in 2003 when they won the Division Two State Finals but that game was at the Pontiac Silverdome and it’s the Highlanders first trip to Ford Field. Adams is coming off a 40-20 victory over Grand Blanc behind the play of quarterback Parker Picot and their stout defense. The Highlanders defense has been outstanding in the postseason against very good competition in Lapeer, Oxford, West Bloomfield, and Grand Blanc. Belleville has a really good offense led by quarterback Bryce Underwood. The Tigers are decent defensively but they are fast and athletic. They are coming off a 40-26 victory over Sterling Heights Stevenson last week. Belleville has been rolling since their early season loss to Livonia Churchill. It should be a very interesting matchup between the “Tap-Tap-Tap” and the veer/resilience.

OAA had strong showings with Seaholm winning the Division Two State Title.

Written Saturday November 20th at 9:30 PM

The OAA had a pretty good day at the pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Maples won their third straight Division Two State title in Girls Swimming at Oakland University.

Seaholm won with a 314.5 score. Grosse Pointe South was second with 241 points and Grand Rapids Northview was third with 191 points.

The Maples swept three relay events while junior Samantha Clifford won the 100 freestyle and was second in the 200 freestyle. She also anchored the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Groves was fifth with 150 points, Farmington was ninth with 99 points, Royal Oak was 11th with 75 points, Adams was 15th with 64 points, North Farmington was 17th with 57 points, and Berkley was 24th with 22.5 points.

In Division One at Holland, Bloomfield Hills was 17th with 36 points, Clarkston was 21st with 23 points, Lake Orion was 24th with 18 points, Troy was 25th with 10 points, and Stoney Creek was tied for 26th with seven points.

Week Thirteen Thoughts.

Adams: The Highlanders battled back from an early 14-0 deficit to put 33 unanswered points in a 40-20 victory over Grand Blanc on Saturday afternoon in the Division One State Semifinals at Howell. Christian Schomer had a great game catching two receiving touchdowns and getting an interception. Parker Picot added three passing scores along with a rushing score. Adams calmed down defensively and really clamped down. They forced five Bobcats turnovers which included three fumbles, a fourth down stop, and two interceptions which also included a 26 yard pick six from Tait Picot. I remember Coach Tony Patritto’s interview really well from Media Day and my interview with him during the preview show, the word resilience. That’s what Adams theme has been all year long. The Highlanders are in their second State Championship game, their first in Division One, and first at Ford Field. They will play Belleville in the Division One State title game. The Tigers are very similar to West Bloomfield when it comes to athleticism and playmakers. They have a very good freshman quarterback and a ton of playmakers as well. I don’t think Belleville has seen the veer offense or played the type of teams that Adams has. I know there has been a lot of questions about why the Highlanders were not in the Red this season or last year but Adams has more than proven that they can beat anyone. It should be a very interesting game next Saturday at Ford Field.
