Troy has their new Girls Basketball Coach.

Written Tuesday June 27th at 10:45 AM

Updated Thursday July 13th at 10:00 AM

It wasn't no surprise to anyone that the Colts went someone they knew for their new coach.

Troy named Laura Guzman their new head coach of the girls basketball program confirmed on Twitter. She takes over for Julius Porter whom stepped down earlier this month. Porter led the Colts to a State Quarterfinal appearance in 2022.

Guzman coached at Farmington from 2017-2023. She was 55-64 in her six years at Farmington."When I was at Farmington, the strength of our non league games was way tougher than you mentioned. We literally were in the bottom league (Blue/Gold) and I would cross over with teams way above us and we competed. We didn't win but we competed with the kids we had" Guzman said.

Guzman has been known for taking rebuilding projects head on especially when she was at Farmingon. Program strength was an issue and it still is heading into next season.

The Colts really struggled last season with a ton of young talent in a very tough division which they were in the Red. Troy went 3-19 and fell 62-34 to Birmingham Seaholm in the first round last season.

Troy has Diamond Prince, Regan Zeiter, Olivia Sprangler, Carly Higginbottom, and Aly Matuza coming back for Guzman. They will also have Macey Zeiter coming into the program in two years. "I think the Troy girls are eager to learn. I think sleeper is a good work to describe the girls" said Guzman.

Guzman will see her former team Farmington in the Blue along with Adams, Berkley, Southfield Arts and Tech, and Troy Athens. The district should be very interesting with Seaholm, Troy Athens, Bloomfield Hills, and Avondale at Troy Athens.

Guzman also coaches softball at Troy.

It will be very interesting to see what happens. Guzman has a very tough challenge ahead of her. Also what happens to Farmington with Guzman's departure will also be something to watch. "My program will compete and they will work hard regardless of who we play. The girls are great kids" Guzman concluded.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Volleyball Districts are Out-2023.

Written Tuesday June 20th at 6:40 PM

Updated Monday October 23rd at 8:10 AM

This are the volleyball districts. Here are my thoughts and insight surrounding each district. This article will be updated.

District 17 @ Livonia Stevenson

Redford Thurston vs Livonia Stevenson

Redford Thurston/Livonia Stevenson vs Novi

FARMINGTON vs Farmington Hills Mercy

FARMINGTON/Farmington Hills Mercy vs SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Farmington Hills Mercy, 2. Livonia Stevenson

FAVORITE: Farmington Hills Mercy

NEXT: Livonia Stevenson

DARKHORSE: Novi

PLAYER ON SPOT: Kaitlyn Pallozzi-Farmington Hills Mercy

EARLY THOUGHTS: This should be a very tough district. Three teams have a great chance to win this district. Novi made a ton of head waves last season despite losing a ton of proven experience from last season’s final four run. The Wildcats have Cece Regoli, Mallory Stoy, Grace Hoener, Izzy Earley, Kate Harpenau, Paige O’Connor, and Zoe Adams coming back for Coach Kacey Moran. Livonia Stevenson should be a sleeper in this district. The Spartans have Ava Schoen, Dea Alushi, Natalie West, Brynlee Hass, Erin Cahill, Megan Ervans, Cate Sosnowski, Jessica Muller, Kennedy Hinkle, Lauren Micallef, Kelsey Bahr, and Grace Trantham coming back for Coach Amy Osborn. Farmington Hills Mercy has been a perennial power in volleyball and they should be again. The Marlins have Kaitlyn Pallozzi, Maya Zarow, Angie Butler, Lana LaFontaine, Jillian Collins, Cree Hollier, Campbell Flynn, Keira McNutt, and Ava Fitzgerald coming back for Coach Loretta Vogel. Southfield Arts and Tech has a really good season last year winning the Blue for Coach Michael Armstrong. Redford Thurston was up and down last season. They should be better this season for Coach Scott Gray. Farmington really struggled last season. The Falcons should be much improved for Coach Kate Drews. This should be a very interesting district to watch this season.

DISTRICT UPDATE: There is no changes to this district. Farmington Hills Mercy got a great draw and should get to the district finals while Novi and Livonia Stevenson should see each other in the district semifinals. If your Coach Loretta Vogel, your living right, right now.

District 21 @ Birmingham Marian

Birmingham Marian vs SEAHOLM

Birmingham Marian/SEAHOLM vs GROVES

ROYAL OAK vs BERKLEY

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Birmingham Marian, 2. Berkley

FAVORITE: Birmingham Marian

NEXT: Berkley

DARKHORSE: Groves

PLAYER ON SPOT: Mackenzie Swanson-Birmingham Marian

EARLY THOUGHTS: In the words of the great Paul Heyman, the word defending and undisputed champion is in this district and that is Birmingham Marian. They are the two time defending Division One State Champs and they host the district. The Mustangs area young team but they are loaded again with Allie Davison, Danielle Mertz, Mackenzie Swanson, Maggie Scott, Jayla Zayti, Maria Odeesh, Izzy Busignani, and Ella Swanson coming back. They also added Clarkston transfer Chloe Gehtbrock for Coach Mayssa Cook. Seaholm really struggled last season. The Maples should be better for Coaches Jason and Heather Gambone. Groves should be very interesting this season. The Falcons have Jordan Allen, Anna Apsey, Chloe Cast, Autumn DeGroat, Emily Eshelby, Adison Gerken, Alexis Heller, Molly Heller, Sydney Lezovich, Sofia Scott, Ayden Weber, and Ariell White coming back for Coach Madison Close. Berkley had an incredible run getting to the Division One State Quarterfinals last season. The Bears have Sophie Owens, Lili Herron, Karsen Savage, Mariah Jones, Erika Mayry, Emily High, Alana White, and Julia Watson coming back for Coach Dakota Stanichuk. Royal Oak has a ton of ups and downs last season. The Ravens have Ava Emery, Brie Emery, Charlotte Graves, Riley Maizy, Jaelynn Prebelich, Hannah Saunders, and Emmy Walden coming back for Coach Ciara Schultz.  This district is the Mustangs to lose but the Bears, Falcons, Ravens, and maybe Maples might have a strong say how this district goes.

DISTRICT UPDATE: This district doesn't have a ton of changes except Oak Park dropped out. This district looks like it will be Birmingham Marian despite all the young talent they have likely up against Berkley in the district final. The Mustangs should be favored but the Bears could surprise some folks and pull off a stunner. They are more than capable of doing that.

District 25 @ Waterford Mott

Walled Lake Western vs BLOOMFIELD HILLS

Walled Lake Western/BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs Walled Lake Central

Waterford Mott vs NORTH FARMINGTON

Waterford Mott/NORTH FARMINGTON vs WEST BLOOMFIELD

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Bloomfield Hills, 2. Walled Lake Central

FAVORITE: Bloomfield Hills

NEXT: Walled Lake Central

DARKHORSE: Walled Lake Western

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Natalie Petrucci- Bloomfield Hills

EARLY THOUGHTS: There are a ton of storylines coming into this district. Walled Lake Central is veteran heavy. The Vikings have Madeline Elkow, Lauren Browser, Angelina Virga, Angelina Saco, Samantha Klenczar, Makalynn Czamecki, Brielle Thomas, and Reagan Adams coming back for Coach Elizabeth Kaplin. Walled Lake Western is another team that is veteran heavy. The Warriors have Blaire Waling, Evynne Santana, Natalie Kosaian, Ryah Dewey, Brie Woodman, and Megan Hill coming back for Coach Angie Dewey. Bloomfield Hills has a ton of proven experience. The Blackhawks have Jessica Pal, Kacy Rankin, Emily Daitch, Kora Nicolanti, Jamie Zousmer, Natalie Peturcci, Annalise Parker, Gabrielle Gippert, Mia Feinglold, Celeste Arabo, and Kayla Nwabuezee coming back for Coach Jacob Paige. Waterford Mott has struggled in the past but they should be better for Coach Beth MacVicar. North Farmington was very young last season. They have experience which should help. The Raiders have Skyler Wayne, Sydney Ostrofsky, Liz Grajewski, Sofi Licari, Sam Hoffer, Amara Gatson, Isaiah Bartlett, Mehar Khanna, Sullivan Totin, Whalen Kennedy, Collin Zimmerman, Kayli Piper, and Kanoto Noguchi coming back for Coach Michael Love. West Bloomfield should be very interesting with a new coach and system coming into the program. The Lakers have Arielle Newsome, Jordanne Shannon, Gabrielle Hale, and Felcia Fulton coming back for new coach Elizabeth Ferguson. This should be a very interesting district to watch. It’s anyone’s district but give a slight edge to the Blackhawks.

DISTRICT UPDATE: It really stinks to me that the two top teams in this district will likely meet in the district semifinals but it is what is. West Bloomfield and North Farmington should be a very interesting district semifinal matchup. I see whoever wins that game seeing Bloomfield Hills when looking at the bracket. My district projection has no changes.

District 26 @ Adams

Utica Eisenhower vs PONTIAC

Utica Eisenhower/PONTIAC vs ROCHESTER

ADAMS vs STONEY CREEK

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Stoney Creek, 2. Utica Eisenhower

FAVORITE: Stoney Creek

NEXT: Adams

DARKHORSE: Rochester

PLAYER ON SPOT: Lola Hurst-Rochester

EARLY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district. There are four teams that have a shot to win this district. Utica Eisenhower should be a very interesting team. The Eagles have Jada Pantaleo, Shpresa Nikolai, Gina Fredrigo, Kayla Ostrander, Claire Bemis, Danielle Becker, and Jenna Fraser coming back for Coach Caitlyn Mahoney. Rochester has made a ton of strides from last season. They should be very good this season. The Falcons have Aleeza Carballo, Lola Hurst, Abby He, Kaitlin Allen, Kylah Vigant, Vivian Campbell, Carol Campbell, Isabella Ferrara, Joran Suhajda, Bruce Suhajda, and Makena Torri coming back for Coach Kirk Gibbs. Adams should be back in the mix. The Highlanders have Emily Edwards, Maddie Wilson, Julia Fidler, Tori Lang, Tina Barnekova, Emerson Straub, Bella Guthrie, Sayrha Nahra, and Olivia Carroll coming back for Coach Terry Baughman. Stoney Creek was very young last season which was very unusual. The Cougars have Lexi Mazzola, Grace Bonner, Joslyn Becker, Julia Gojcaj, Lili Sipila, Caroline Khury, Zoe Champine, Ana Cano, Jillian Van Stee, and Cassandra Younggren coming back for Coach Ross Talbot. Pontiac should be very young this season for Coach Kyrie Holloman. This district should be very competitive with the Cougars, Highlanders, Falcons, and Eagles have great chances to win this district.

DISTRICT UPDATE: This should be a very fun district when looking at the matchup. Rochester got a great draw but could see Utica Eisenhower in the district semifinals. Adams and Stoney Creek should go five games which would be very interesting. I'm seeing right now a Rochester/Adams district final but Stoney Creek and Utica Eisenhower could easily replace both teams.

District 27 @ Avondale

AVONDALE vs Sterling Heights

AVONDALE/Sterling Heights vs Utica Ford II

TROY vs TROY ATHENS

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Troy, 2. Avondale

FAVORITE: Troy

NEXT: Avondale

DARKHORSE: Troy Athens

PLAYER ON SPOT: Caroline Cubitt-Troy Athens

EARLY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district in Auburn Hills. Utica Ford II should be solid this season. The Falcons have Natalia Malewicz, Bella Allen, Ruby Sandison, Kaitlyn Marsh, Stephanie Saunders, and Samantha Yantus coming back for Coach Randy Schantz. Sterling Heights Stevenson had a solid year last season. The Titans have Diana Marku, Kaitlyn Davis, Samantha Fenwick, and Katie Coles coming back for Coach Karolina Dziedzic. Troy has been very good in the past. The Colts have Anna Rich, Bella Colon, Gabby Bouzide, Emma Runke, Riley Smith and, Anika Abelgas coming back for Coach Vince Muscat. Troy Athens has been improving. The Red Hawks have Ashlyn Andrzejewski, Caroline Cubitt, Macy Van Tiem, Maya Sabra, Madigan Tennies, and Julia Heywood coming back for Coach Mary Kate Zinn. Avondale has been improving each season. The Yellow Jackets have Ava Williams, Cate Pastori, Marissa Jewell, Paige Inez and Kennedy Wolfe coming back for Coach Andrew Stepp. I think this is a wide open district to say the least.

DISTRICT UPDATE: No real changes to this district. Troy has really emerged as the favorite and should be the favorite in this district going forward. Utica Ford II has been really interesting while Avondale is the wildcard. It wouldn't surprise me if the Falcons or Yellow Jackets and Colts are the district final matchup.

District 29 @ Lake Orion

Lakeland vs CLARKSTON

Lakeland/CLARKSTON vs LAKE ORION

Walled Lake Northern vs Waterford Kettering

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Clarkston, 2. Lake Orion

FAVORITE: Clarkston

NEXT: Lake Orion

DARKHORSE: Walled Lake Northern

PLAYER ON SPOT: Cayla Cogan-Clarkston

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is going to be a very competitive and very tough district. Four teams have a shot to win this district. Walled Lake Northern is veteran heavy this season. The Knights have Kaitlyn Freitag, Amelia Foster, Ava Epley, Kayla Budziak, Hadley Krygier, Avery Alfano, Lexi Peters, and Lucy McCarthy coming back for Coach Suzanne Krygier. Lakeland has been very good and they should be again this season. The Eagles have Kenzie McCombs, Kylie Kennedy, Ivana Fillipovic, Rylie Finzel, and Finley Ostach coming back for Coach Meghan Polce. Waterford Kettering has struggled in recent years. The Captains have Isabel Nuttall, Sarai Villegas-Rosa, Isabella Labo, Delaney Hall, Andrea Brown, Kyra Nickerson, and Riley Buczek coming back for Coach Rod Armstrong. Lake Orion is a very interesting team. They kind of remind you of the 2015 Michigan State Spartans College Football team. The Dragons have Charlotte Peplowski, Teresa Gaberdiel, Allison O’Rourke, Sydney Bell, Carly Zibell, Ella Johnson, Sydbey Small, Addison Dukus, Kennedi Miller, and Devin Brunk coming back for Coach Tony Scarvada. Clarkston made a ton of noise and took Birmingham Marian to the brink last season in the State Quarterfinals. The Wolves have Morgan Lozzi, Addison Newblatt, Kiley Gallagher, Cayla Cogan, Jessica Petker, Emery Kuebler, and Isabelle Henry coming back for Coach Alison Smith. This district should be the one of the most competitive in the State this season.

DISTRICT UPDATE: This district looks like Walled Lake Northern will head to the district final with ease. Lakeland and Clarkston looks very interesting but the Wolves should pull through setting up a rematch with Lake Orion. The Wolves beat the Dragons in three games. This district looks like it's a Clarkston/Walled Lake Northern district final.

District 32 @ Romeo

Port Huron vs OXFORD

Port Huron/OXFORD vs New Baltimore Anchor Bay

Romeo vs Lapeer

Romeo/Lapeer vs Port Huron Northern

PROJECTED MPR: 1. New Baltimore Anchor Bay, 2. Oxford

FAVORITE: New Baltimore Anchor Bay

NEXT: Oxford

DARKHORSE: Port Huron

PLAYER ON SPOT: Jordyn Fiedler-Port Huron

EARLY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district, three teams have a great shot to win this district. New Baltimore Anchor Bay was solid last season. The Tars have Ashlyn Cunha, Grace Lancaster, Lea Wasielewski, Brooklyn Haack, Rachel Youngblood, Korin Hitton, and Amelia Klos coming back for Coach Kristy Morrow. Port Huron should be a very interesting team. The Big Reds have Brylynn Balon, Jordan Fiedler, Alana Haller, Erica Hudy, Gwen Kamendat, Bryn Mullens, Isabelle Trombly, Illiana Williams coming back for Coach Derek Arena. Port Huron Northern really struggled last season. The Huskies have Elizabeth Block, McKenna Kiteley, Paisley Peyerk, Alexis Umbreit, Emma Vandergraff, Sydney Betts, and Anna Kerhoulas coming back for Coach Jacqueline Jamison. Lapeer was solid last season. The Lightning have Josie Jacob, Rosa Freeland, Berkley Dixon, Zoe Lomerson, Addison Seifferly, Vanessa Carr, Ginger Grzyb, Eva LeClaire, Oaklee Callans, Shannon Nolan, Baylee Osentoski, and Lexi Norman coming back for Coach Barry Jones. Oxford should be very interesting. The Wildcats have Alexandra Lantzy, Abby Jones, Jenna Miller, Kaitlyn Weiss, Tara Swanson, and Ella Sharrow coming back for Coach Noelle Zebb. Romeo has home court and should have a bounce back season. The Bulldogs have Trista Ameel, Alyson Culkin, Kara Plutschuck, Emma Pagliarella, and Hannah Tymitz coming back for Coach Stacey Williams. Overall this should be a very interesting district as mentioned between the Tars, Big Reds, and Wildcats are the early favorites but never count the Bulldogs out by any means.

DISTRICT UPDATE: This district looks wide open. Romeo has been much better than advertised and should make a run to the district final. The top of the bracket should be fun with Port Huron and Oxford playing each other with the winner getting a proven powerhouse in New Baltimore Anchor Bay. Port Huron is a scary team right now but can't count the Tars out. This is a perfect opportunity for Romeo to make some noise.

District 54 @ Hazel Park

Detroit Henry Ford vs FERNDALE

Detroit Henry Ford/FERNDALE vs Detroit Lincoln King Academy

Hazel Park vs Detroit Jalen Rose Academy

Hazel Park/Detroit Jalen Rose Academy vs FERNDALE UNIVERSITY

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Hazel Park, 2. Ferndale

FAVORITE: Hazel Park

NEXT: Ferndale

DARKHORSE: Ferndale University

PLAYER ON SPOT: Isabella Mendoza-Ferndale

EARLY THOUGHTS: This district looks like it could be a three team district. Detroit Henry Ford really struggled last season for Coach Tiffany Jackson. Detroit Lincoln King struggled last season for Coach Briana Moss. Detroit Jalen Rose Academy for Coach Rhea Cooper. Hazel Park has been very good since leaving the OAA for the Macomb Area Conference. The Vikings have Alayna Brown, Lacy Chambers, Gabrielle, Figueroa, Emily Hudnall, and Savannah Lopez coming back for Coach Sherry Rietz. Ferndale should be a contender this season. The Eagles have Tatiyana Butts, Isabel Dutra, Charlotte Keller, Isabella Mendoza, Scarlet Reid, Katie Stokes, and Djene Sy coming back for Coach Natalie Satkowiak. Ferndale University should be very interesting this season. The Eagles have Ja-Kai George Tate, JonNae Kitchen, Briah Wadley, and Chanel Watson coming back for Coach Kenton Maki. As mentioned earlier, this district could come down to the Vikings, the Eagles, and the Eagles whom could win this district.

DISTRICT UPDATE: This district looks very interesting. Ferndale got a great draw and should make the district finals. Hazel Park and Ferndale University could be a very interesting matchup in the district semifinals. I see a Eagles/Vikings district finals so no changes right now.

District 56 @ Harper Woods

Detroit Denby vs Detroit East English Village Prep

Detroit Denby/Detroit East English Village Prep vs HARPER WOODS

Harper Woods Chandler Park vs Detroit Southeastern

Harper Woods Chandler Park/Detroit Southeastern vs Detroit Osborn

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Harper Woods Chandler Park, 2. Detroit Southeastern

FAVORITE: Harper Woods Chandler Park

NEXT: Detroit Southeastern

DARKHORSE: Harper Woods

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is not a very strong district on paper. Detroit Southeastern was very good last season for Coach Ricardo Brown. Detroit Osborn has a new coach. Detroit East English for Coach Pamela Green. Detroit Denby for Coach Leif Seed. Harper Woods Chandler Park was up and down last season but they will have home court which helps. The Eagles have Micha White, Asia Newsom, Destiny Hardy, Jaiden Brooks, Shardae Littlejohn, Autumn Howard and Jailah Carter coming back for Coach Michelle Smith. Harper Woods really struggled last season for Coach Lydia Doty-Faulk. This district on paper looks like this is the Eagles to lose but the Jungaleers could give a battle for sure.

DISTRICT UPDATE: The matchups are very interesting. Harper Woods got the best draw and should be in the district final. Harper Woods Chandler Park and Detroit Southeastern has to go through each other. Should be a very interesting district.

Girls Basketball Districts Are Out-2024.

Written Tuesday June 20th at 9:20 AM

Updated Sunday January 28th at 10:40 AM

This article will be updated very often. Coaches including those are not in the OAA, if you want your thoughts on your district for the blog, please DM me on Twitter or email me.

Here is the districts.

District 60 @ Harper Woods Chandler Park

Eastpointe vs HARPER WOODS

Detroit East English Village Prep vs Harper Woods Chandler Park

FAVORITE: Harper Woods

NEXT: Harper Woods Chandler Park

DARKHORSE: Detroit East English Village Prep

PLAYER ON SPOT: Clearia Peterson-Harper Woods

THOUGHTS: This district should be much easier for the Pioneers coming back from Division One to Division Two this season. The familiarity should help Harper Woods knowing the district is in the city of Harper Woods even though it's not at Harper Woods High School. The Pioneers won 12 games last season and will look for more this season. They have Clearia Peterson, Laniaya West, Mikyra Kelly, Tamina Montgomery, Autumn Trotter, and Kendall Kelsey coming back for new coach LaTonya Tate. Detroit East English Village Prep won 13 games last season for Coach Michelle Goodwin. Detroit Denby really struggled last season. They will have a new coach in Quintelle Foster taking over the program. Eastpointe won four games last season for Coach Deon Woods. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy won 14 games last season for Coach Omar Ahart. This district looks like it should be a two team race between the Pioneers and the Eagles but Detroit East English Village Prep could be a sleeper in this district.

District 58 @ Birmingham Detroit Country Day

Detroit University Prep vs Detroit Henry Ford

Detroit University Prep/Detroit Henry Ford vs Birmingham Detroit Country Day

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY vs Detroit Lincoln King

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY/Detroit Lincoln King vs FERNDALE

FAVORITE: Birmingham Detroit Country Day

NEXT: Ferndale

DARKHORSE: Detroit Henry Ford

PLAYER ON SPOT: Ariyanna Wiggins-Birmingham Detroit Country Day

THOUGHTS: This is not a really strong district on paper. Birmingham Detroit Country Day won 18 games last season and is the favorite in this district. The Yellow Jackets have Ariyanna Wiggins, Ayaana Hai, Julia Younes, Sadie Rifkin, Jaidyn Elam, Peja Liles, Emma Arico, Jayla Jackson, and Naiya Krispin coming back for Coach Amber Deane. Detroit Henry Ford went from Division One to Division Two. The Trojans won four games for Coach Chevelle O’Brien last season. Detroit Lincoln King won six games for Coach Eric Boyles last season. Ferndale made a ton of strides winning eight games last season. They will look to have more success this season. The Eagles have Trinity Bennett, Jada Buchanan, Madiah Clark, Alia Herron, Ja'Nyia Larry, Jayla Jackson, Lily Bowson, Iyanna Davis, Demi Bolton, Aaliyah Frost, Jai'la Martin, Isabella Mendoza, and Jayla Pouncy coming back for Coach Keith Paris. Ferndale University really struggled last season. The Eagles have Laressa Brogdon, Lemia Butler, Terrionna Davis, Brooklyn Gray, Tyla Jacon-Parish, JonNae Kitchen, Kayla Lewis, Nakyra Montgomery, and Leanna Spencer coming back for Coach Brianna Rowe. This district overall looks like its Birmingham Detroit Country Day’s district to lose.

District 32 @ Grand Blanc

Lapeer vs Holly

Lapeer/Holly vs Grand Blanc

Davison vs OXFORD

FAVORITE: Oxford

NEXT: Grand Blanc

DARKHORSE: Lapeer

PLAYER ON SPOT: Alison Hufstedler-Oxford

THOUGHTS: This district might be the best chance for Oxford to make some noise. The Wildcats are in the Red and have proven talent in Peyton Richter, Allison Hufstedler, Sophia Rabb, Emma Beggs, Braydee Elling, and Lexi Yankee coming back for Coach Rachel Bryer. Grand Blanc has beaten the Wildcats the last three years in the postseason. The Bobcats have Chelsea Bishop, Lauren Piscopink, Raven McQueen, and Mayla Brown coming back for new coach Bob Taylor. Davison really struggled winning seven games last season but there has been some hype surrounding the Cardinals with the proven experience and what they have done this summer. The Cardinals have Paige Allis, Mayae Carradine, Grace Little, Lillian Kish, Gracie Wright, Marionna Dixon, Samantha Beller, Brooke Pizzala, and Lily Morey coming back for Coach Lauhnna McMahan. Lapeer won seven games last season. The Lightning have Sephora Miller, Madison White, Lilly Young, Carley Hoover, Hannah Dennis, Alexis Norman, and Madison Spanicciatti coming back for Coach Evan Bell. Holly really struggled winning three games last season. The Bronchos have Mallory Hall and Adel Hoglund coming back for Coach Ben Varner. Overall this district looks like a two maybe three team district but this could be the Wildcats best chance as mentioned.

District 29 @ Waterford Mott

Waterford Mott vs CLARKSTON

Waterford Kettering vs LAKE ORION

FAVORITE: Lake Orion

NEXT: Clarkston

DARKHORSE: No One

PLAYER ON SPOT: Izzy Wotlinski-Lake Orion

THOUGHTS: This is the same district as last season when Lake Orion won the district crown at Clarkston 54-52 last season. This district could have the same story but different venue. Waterford Kettering really struggled last season. The Captains have Avery Topinka, Elle Dropps, Lourdes Hale, Jaiden Brady, Isabella Labo, Kylee Nickerson, and Nora Hernandez coming back for new coach and former Oakland University mens basketball standout Rawle Marshall. Waterford Mott will be a very interesting team. The Corsairs have Marissa Trevino, Karli Koskinen, Kate Saunders, Natalia Santia, Ahmya Gulley, and Julianna Lemus coming back for new coach Andy Wellman. Pontiac was very young last season with seven freshmen now sophomores led by Aniyah Shaw, Isisas Shaw, and Carroll Hunt coming back. The Phoenix should be better for Coach Corray Lett. Clarkston is a very interesting team with some proven talent despite being young and not having a ton of size. The Wolves have Elliana Robak, Emily Valencia, Claire Walker, Marley Mazur, Kierra Zorski, Lauren Fishtaller, Ellery Hernandez, and Ella Morgner coming back while Brooklyn Covert and Lexi Fry could make their names known as freshmen for Coach Aaron Goodnough. Lake Orion graduated nine seniors from a team that went to the regional final last season but four players remain from the team that won the district crown either last season or two years ago. They could be very interesting to watch this season. The Dragons have Izzy Wotlinski, Lexi Stroschein, Charlotte Peplowski, and Ryann Pawlacyzk coming back. They added a transfer in Neveah Wood and Ellie Britt returned this offseason for Coach Bob Brydges. Wood and Wotlinski are coming back from ACL injuries. If Brydges can put the pieces together then the Dragons could be right where they need to be. Overall not a ton of changes, this district still looks like it should be a blue and gold vs green and white district final.

District 28 @ Troy Athens

BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs TROY ATHENS

BLOOMFIELD HILLS/TROY ATHENS vs TROY

AVONDALE vs SEAHOLM

FAVORITE: Bloomfield Hills

NEXT: Seaholm

DARKHORSE: Troy

PLAYER ON SPOT: Olivia Sprangler-Troy

THOUGHTS: This should be a wide open district at Troy Athens. Bloomfield Hills has been rising each year winning the Blue last season. This might be the best chance for the Blackhawks to win a district."Bloomfield Hills will be the team to beat" said new Troy Girls Basketball Coach Laura Guzman. The Blackhawks have Ruby Smith, Ashley Forner, Brianna Young, and Michelle Barnett coming back for Coach Kristen Massey. Troy was very young last season. "I think the girls at Troy are eager to learn" said Guzman. The Colts have Diamond Prince, Reagan Zeiter, Olivia Sprangler, Aly Matuza, Kelsey Block, Victoria Siegan, Carly Blair, Sophia Kaltsounis, and Carly Higginbottom coming back for Guzman. "I think sleeper is the best way to describe the girls" Guzman added. Avondale was very young last season but they made a splash this offseason with Morgan McPherson transferring from Adams. The Yellow Jackets have Madison Manyweathers, Amaria Daniel, Trenitee Carroll, Sasha McClellan, Khalia Bradley, and Arielle Dudley coming back for Coach Roy Christmon. Troy Athens has been an up and down team with injuries really derailing them last season. The Red Hawks have Abby Malone, Katy Keller, Ava Laurer, Kayci Mercier, and Alex Link coming back for Coach Stacie Klumpp. Seaholm has been a team that has had their ups and downs. The Maples have a ton of proven experience in Mary Wiltgen, Mary Gumbis, Clara Guffey, Addy Kitzman, Emma Weber, Taylor Hartwig, and Addy Flynn coming back for Coach Shay Manchester. Overall this is a wide open district, anyone can take this district that is for sure.

District 27 @ Stoney Creek

ADAMS vs Utica Eisenhower

ADAMS/Utica Eisenhower vs STONEY CREEK

ROCHESTER vs Romeo

FAVORITE: Stoney Creek

NEXT: Rochester

DARKHORSE: Romeo

PLAYER ON SPOT: Merrick Schlawbach-Stoney Creek

THOUGHTS: This district should be very interesting when looking at the teams. It is the same as last season when Rochester won the district crown. Utica Eisenhower has Devyn Raymond, Brooke Nicholson, Ava Gojcaj, Mariana Stojcevski, Gabriella Gojcaj, Paige Hays, Abby Nezich, and Abby Klaft coming back for Coach Cliff Piper. Romeo won 12 games last season. The Bulldogs have Clare Carmody, Abigail Ganfield, Lydia Hall, Anna Iwanicki, Jacqueline LeBlanc, Mya Muschong, Emily Reynolds, and Allison Schoenherr coming back for Coach Ronald LeBlanc. Adams had a very young team last season. The Highlanders have a ton of proven experience in Samantha Blaine, Layla Tomezak, Raegan Jarrell, and Faith Zoldos coming back for Coach Joe Malburg. Rochester is coming off their first district crown since 2016. The Falcons have Alice Max, Kylie Robinson, Kaitlyn Guiola, Kayla Parsons, and Lucy Cook coming back and Angela Cichowski could make some noise for Coach Bill Thurston. Stoney Creek has been a contender each year in this district and this season is no other. The Cougars have Sarah LaPrarie, Merrick Schlawbach, Taylor Fulkerson, and Izzy Ivezaj coming back but Coach Kellen James stepped down and Columbus Williams was named the new coach. Overall the Falcons are the slight favorite because of Max but the Cougars are right there as well as the Eagles but never count out the Highlanders or the Bulldogs by any means in this district.

District 23 @ Warren Cousino

Warren Mott vs Sterling Heights

Warren Mott/Sterling Heights vs Warren Cousino

GROVES vs ROYAL OAK

FAVORITE: Royal Oak

NEXT: Warren Cousino

DARKHORSE: Groves

PLAYER ON SPOT: Jacey Roy-Groves

THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district which has a ton of different dynamics. Warren Cousino won 14 games last season and has home court. The Patriots have a ton of proven experience in DeMaya Asberry, Bailey Bainbridge, Laela Bendert, Sara Kozel, Nina Williamson, Alex Pfeiffer, Marleen Marooki, and Nevaeh Porter coming back for Coach Amy Mitchell. Warren Mott won 11 games last season. The Marauders have Leajah Ferguson, Claira Taylor, Addison Brown, and Conamora Ndana coming back for Coach Patrick Schmidt. Sterling Heights won 12 games last season for Coach Michael Gurney. Groves is a very interesting team. They lost a ton of talent but they have some proven players back from a team that should have beat Birmingham Marian in the district semifinals last season. The Falcons have Jacey Roy, Neveah Cochran-McCay, Cameron Little, and Cira Racco coming back for Coach Alison Hidey. Royal Oak may be the most dangerous team in this district because they have everyone from last season coming back. The Ravens have a ton of proven experience with Emilee Austin, Ceci Irwin, Meghan Hahn, Maddie Lawerence, Anna Waterstredt, Lydia Dickens, and Lucy Freytag coming back for Coach Brian Sopota. A player who could make some noise for Royal Oak is Katie Roelofs. She has made some noise during the summer and could be a key player for Sopota. “We’re east again with Groves there and several MAC schools, we’ve been south with Detroit Renaissance, north with Birmingham Marian, and the last time we went east Warren Cousino went onto win a State title, we’ll see different teams and compete in that district” Sopota said at Media Day. This should be a very interesting district to watch that is for sure.

District 22 @ Farmington Hills Mercy

FARMINGTON vs NORTH FARMINGTON

NORTH FARMINGTON/FARMINGTON vs WEST BLOOMFIELD

Birmingham Marian vs Farmington Hills Mercy

FAVORITE: West Bloomfield

NEXT: Farmington Hills Mercy

DARKHORSE: Birmingham Marian

PLAYER ON SPOT: Sheridan Beal-West Bloomfield

THOUGHTS: This district is deemed the “Group of Death” with three proven schools that are in this district. West Bloomfield is a slight favorite in this district and I mean slight very lightly. The Lakers have Kendall Hendrix, Sheridan Beal, Destiny Washington, Ava Lord, Gabrielle Hale, Summer Davis and Indya Davis coming back for Coach Darrin McAllister. Farmington Hills Mercy is going to be a serious player in this district after winning 22 games last season. The Marlins have Aizlyn Albanese, Owynn Evans, Emily Walker, Allison Smiley, Ava Lorriane, Jessica Heath, and Abby Bores coming back for Coach Gary Morris. It was un Birmingham Marian like last season winning 10 games but they won a district. The Mustangs should be much better this season. They have Mackenzie Swanson, Molly McLeod, Ella Swanson, Charlie Bingham, Charlotte Quaine, Katelyn Morgan, Scarlett Bouschet, Abby Landa, Annalisa Bortolotti, and Ruby Jansen coming back for Coach Michelle Lindsey. They also have incoming freshmen Mack Reid who could make an impact this season. Farmington is a very interesting team with EdiMari King, Anna Tornachuk, and Jayla Silver coming back. They will have a new coach Natalie Nowak. North Farmington is in complete rebuild mode. The Raiders have Hannah Hart and Asiyah Jihad coming back along with transfer Anaiah Bowers for new Coach Michael Allin. Three teams have a shot to win this district as mentioned. Whoever wins this district would have earned it..

District 21 @ Berkley

BERKLEY vs Redford Thurston

BERKLEY/Redford Thurston vs Detroit Mumford

OAK PARK vs SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

OAK PARK/SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH vs Detroit Renaissance

FAVORITE: Detroit Renaissance

NEXT: Southfield Arts and Tech

DARKHORSE: Berkley

PLAYER ON SPOT: Maeve Nolan-Berkley

THOUGHTS: This district looks very interesting on paper. Detroit Renaissance is the early favorite because they went to the Division One Final Four last season. The Phoenix have the majority of their roster in Alehia Wade, Anaya Hardy, Harmonie Bolton, Nyana Pharr, Victoria Gambles, Makayla Johnson, Christian Sanders, Sterling Gooden, Jaebrian Autry, Nevaeh Otis, Imani Johnson, and Marhea Bradshaw coming back for Coach DeShawn Wood. Detroit Mumford lost some talent from a team that won 10 games last season but they could be a sleeper. The Mustangs have Cherish Jefferson, CeNiyah Williams, Alaijah Thomas, and Kamira Bragg coming back for Coach Kareem Hogan. Redford Thurston won nine games last season but they will have a new coach in Sydney Droughins this season. Oak Park was up and down last season. The Knights should have some more experience for new coach Tyler Washington. Southfield Arts and Tech has been very good offensively but just awful defensibly. The Warriors have some proven talent in Kamara Paige, Christen Banks, Jordan Ushery, and Jamyra Fritz coming back for Coach Shaquita Coltrane. Berkley has a ton of proven experience after a very tough year last season. The Bears have Avery Wintergarden, Maeve Nolan, Haley Kirkwood, Katelin Sillis, Kate McAllister, Madi Boswell, and Nadia Watt coming back for new Coach Clay Shaver. Early on, this district looks like it’s Detroit Renaissance’s but Berkley and Southfield Arts and Tech could have says and maybe Detroit Mumford although it’s not likely with the Mustangs.

Boys Basketball Districts Are Out 2024.

Written Tuesday June 20th at 9:15 AM

Updated Sunday February 18th at 9:12 AM

This article will be updated very often. Coaches including those are not in the OAA, if you want your thoughts on your district for the blog, please DM me on Twitter or email me.

Here is the districts.

District 23 @ Groves

OAK PARK vs ROYAL OAK

OAK PARK/ROYAL OAK vs GROVES

Warren Mott vs BERKLEY

FAVORITE: Groves

NEXT: Berkley

DARKHORSE: Oak Park

PLAYER ON SPOT: Josh Gibson-Groves

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district in Beverly Hills. Berkley has been up and down as of late but have the second seed and a much easier matchup with Warren Mott in the district semifinals. Groves has home court and the top seed but they could see a healthy Oak Park squad in the district semifinals pending if they get by Royal Oak who has been very inconsistent as of late. Groves is the favorite for now but a dangerous path to the district finals they have.

District 24 @ Livonia Stevenson

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH vs Livonia Franklin

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH/Livonia Franklin vs NORTH FARMINGTON

FARMINGTON vs Redford Thurston

FARMINGTON/Redford Thurston vs Livonia Stevenson

FAVORITE: North Farmington

NEXT: Livonia Stevenson

DARKHORSE: Farmington

PLAYER ON SPOT: Dylan Smith-North Farmington

THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district in Livonia. Farmington got hit big time with the loss to Warren Michigan Collegiate on Saturday which cost them a chance at the second seed. They could still see Livonia Stevenson, the team that past them in the districts in the district semifinals pending if they get by Redford Thurston. North Farmington has an interesting road especially if they have to see Livonia Franklin in the district semifinals but at the end of the day, I don't really see anyone touching the Raiders in this district.

District 25 @ Lakeland

Walled Lake Northern vs Lakeland

Walled Lake Northern/Lakeland vs Orchard Lake St. Marys

Walled Lake Central vs Walled Lake Western

Walled Lake Central/Walled Lake Western vs WEST BLOOMFIELD

FAVORITE: Orchard Lake St. Marys

NEXT: West Bloomfield

DARKHORSE: Walled Lake Central

PLAYER ON SPOT: Donnie Watts-West Bloomfield

THOUGHTS: This district looks like it's setting up to be a West Bloomfield/Orchard Lake St. Marys district final but the Lakers have to go through Walled Lake Central in the district semifinals. The Vikings have a shot to win the Lakes Valley Crown. The Eaglets have the easiest path to the district finals. How fitting we could see the Co-Red Champ, Lakes Valley Champ, and the Catholic League Champ all in the same district, it seems very likely at the moment.

District 27 @ Grand Blanc

Holly vs Lapeer

Holly/Lapeer vs Davison

OXFORD vs Grand Blanc

FAVORITE: Davison

NEXT: Grand Blanc

DARKHORSE: Holly

PLAYER ON SPOT: Ka'Vion Smith-Holly

THOUGHTS: There are four proven teams in this very tough district in Genesee County. Grand Blanc and Oxford is a very interesting matchup especially where the Bobcats started but have really improved since. The Wildcats have been playing really good basketball. Holly is fully healthy and will have an interesting first round matchup with Lapeer. The Lightning shocked the Bronchos earlier in the season but Holly is a much different team now. The winner will see Davison in a very tough matchup in the district semifinals. Four teams have a shot to win this district with the Cardinals as the early favorite.

District 28 @ Waterford Kettering

LAKE ORION vs Waterford Kettering

LAKE ORION/Waterford Kettering vs Waterford Mott

CLARKSTON vs PONTIAC

CLARKSTON/PONTIAC vs AVONDALE

FAVORITE: Waterford Mott

NEXT: Clarkston

DARKHORSE: Lake Orion

PLAYER ON SPOT: Jacoby Manyweathers-Waterford Mott

THOUGHTS: This is going to be a very tough and interesting district in Waterford. Waterford Mott is the early favorite in the district but they could see Lake Orion which is a tricky matchup in the district semifinals. The Dragons have played a very tough schedule in the White this season and has a very young team as does the Corsairs. Lake Orion will have to get by Waterford Kettering in the first round before they think of playing the Corsairs. On the other side, it feels odd that Clarkston has to play on Monday and Coach Andrew Myers has to go against his former school. Whoever wins sees Avondale in the district semifinals. There are a ton of storylines in this very competitive district in Waterford.

District 29 @ Troy Athens

SEAHOLM vs BLOOMFIELD HILLS

SEAHOLM/BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs Birmingham Brother Rice

TROY vs TROY ATHENS

FAVORITE: Birmingham Brother Rice

NEXT: Troy

DARKHORSE: Troy Athens

PLAYER ON SPOT: Warren Marshall-Birmingham Brother Rice

THOUGHTS: This district is shaping up to be a Birmingham Brother Rice/Troy district final which seems likely at the moment. Troy and Troy Athens along with Seaholm and Bloomfield Hills would have faced each other three times at this point. The Maples are going through a lot right now. The Blackhawks have been improving each game. The Red Hawks are coming off a tough loss to Troy. The Colts are rolling. Out of these teams that has a shot at beating the Warriors, the Colts have the best chance to do that.

District 30 @ Adams

STONEY CREEK vs Utica Eisenhower

STONEY CREEK/Utica Eisenhower vs Utica

ROCHESTER vs Romeo

ROCHESTER/Romeo vs ADAMS

FAVORITE: Adams

NEXT: Utica

DARKHORSE: Utica Eisenhower

PLAYER ON SPOT: Peter Karadasis-Adams

THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district at Rochester. Adams is the favorite despite the two seed because of the schedule (Adams plays in the Red.) Utica is unbeaten but hasn't really seen the OAA this season despite wins over Romeo and Utica Eisenhower. Stoney Creek has been up and down. Rochester has been playing really good basketball. Romeo has been inconsistent as has Utica Eisenhower. The guard matchup between Aiden Tague and Max Mohl is very interesting in the first round game between the Bulldogs and the Falcons. The Cougars and Eagles could also be very interesting as well. The two seeded teams might have things tough in the district semifinals. It's anyone's district for now.

District 58 @ Harper Woods Chandler Park

Detroit East English Village Prep vs St. Clair Shores South Lake

Detroit East English Village Prep/St. Clair Shores South Lake vs HARPER WOODS

Detroit Denby Tech vs Eastpointe

Detroit Denby Tech/Eastpointe vs Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy

FAVORITE: Harper Woods

NEXT: Harper Woods Chandler Park

DARKHORSE: Detroit East English Village Prep

PLAYER ON SPOT: Julian Young-Harper Woods

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district. Harper Woods has the top seed which could be the worst case for the Pioneers because that means they would see Detroit East English Village Prep in the district semifinals pending if they get past St. Clair Shores South Lake in the first round. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy got the best part of the draw which means their path to the district finals should be easier. The Pioneers are the favorites for now but the path is much tougher going forward.

District 59 @ Detroit Pershing

Detroit Pershing vs Hazel Park

Detroit Pershing/Hazel Park vs Warren Lincoln

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY vs Detroit Osborn

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY/Detroit Osborn vs FERNDALE

FAVORITE: Ferndale

NEXT: Warren Lincoln

DARKHORSE: Detroit Pershing

PLAYER ON SPOT: Trenton Ruth-Ferndale

THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district. Talking to Ferndale Coach Juan Rickman during media day, he is not a big fan of this district being held at Detroit Pershing. The Eagles are the second seed which is the better seed not having to see Detroit Pershing in the district semifinals but they could see Detroit Osborn in the district semifinals. Warren Lincoln has the top seed but they have to see the Doughboys in the district semifinals is very interesting. This is setting up to be a Ferndale/Warren Lincoln district final with the winner possibly heading to the Breslin Center.

Stoney Creek Wins Second Division One State Crown.

Written Saturday June 17th at 8:20 PM

Soccer is played 80 minutes long.

The third ranked Cougars stunned fourth ranked Hudsonville 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Michigan State giving Stoney Creek their second Division One State title in girls soccer. Their first State crown came in 2016.

The Eagles led 1-0 in the 71st minute until senior Lilley Bosley scored her first goal on a beautiful floated pass from Megan Kennedy that set up Bosley's goal.

It was Hudsonville's first allowed goal in the postseason.

Bosley answered again in the 79th minute when she scored the winner after a corner kick from Kaeli Butcher sending the Stoney Creek faithful into a frenzy.

Kennedy has had her fair share of moments as well. She scored the game winner in their district semifinal win over Utica Eisenhower.

Bosley was the reigning Miss Soccer for the State.

Stoney Creek will lose 13 seniors to graduation. They won the "Group of Death" district with wins over Utica Eisenhower and top ranked Rochester. The Cougars beat the defending Division One State Champions Bloomfield Hills and stunned New Baltimore Anchor Bay in extra time in the regionals. Then they won at home over Saline in the State Semifinals until this game.

The Cougars Division One State crown keeps it in the OAA for another season.

The last 10 minutes of the Division One State Finals will be forever linked to Stoney Creek. It gave them their second Division One State crown.

That's why they play 80 minutes of soccer.

Porter steps down at Troy.

Written Thursday June 15th at 10:20 AM

The Colts will have a new girls basketball coach this winter.

According to Stephen Bell from Bank Hoops and another very accurate source, the Troy Girls Varsity Basketball job was open which means that Coach Julius Porter had stepped down at Troy.

Porter was 24-27 in his three years at Troy. He led the Colts to the State Quarterfinals in 2021-2022 with a 13-12 record. He gave them their first district crown in a long while along with their first regional crown.

Prior to coming to Troy, Porter was an assistant coach at Clarkston for the boys basketball program under legendary coach Dan Fife.

Whoever the new coach will be has a pretty good lineup with a ton of proven young talent in Reagan Zeiter, Carly Higginbottom, Olivia Sprangler, and Diamond Prince coming back.

They will be in the Blue with Southfield Arts and Tech, Berkley, Adams, Troy Athens, and Farmington this winter.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Softball State Semifinal Preview.

Written Wednesday June 14th at 8:50 PM

The Dragons are riding with a ton of confidence heading into their first ever State Semifinal in softball.

It will be a very tough opponent they will see on Thursday evening as they will play Hartland at Michigan State.

The winner will see either Grand Blanc or Brownstown Woodhaven on Saturday.

The Eagles come into this game as the defending Kensington Lakes Activities Association Champions and has shut out their last two opponents in Farmington Hills Mercy and Grosse Pointe North by a combined 6-0. They also beat South Lyon as well.

Lake Orion is coming off a 7-0 win over Utica Ford II on Wednesday evening. The Dragons also have wins over Clarkston, Oxford, and Macomb Dakota.

Both teams have very good pitchers with the Eagles having Kylie Swierkois and the Dragons have Rylee Limberger.

This game should come down to offense between two very proven teams. Hartland is ranked fifth in the state while Lake Orion was an honorable mention.

Thursday evening should be a very interesting matchup to say the least.

Girls Soccer State Final Preview.

Written Wednesday June 14th at 8:35 PM

The Cougars are riding with a ton of confidence this postseason. Stoney Creek is in their first State Final since 2016. The Cougars have a great chance to win another State Crown on Saturday afternoon when they play Hudsonville at Michigan State.

Stoney Creek is ranked third in the stare. The Cougars are coming off a 2-0 win over Saline at home on Wednesday evening behind two goals from Ava Avripas and Lauren Palmer.

Hudsonville is ranked fourth in the state. The Eagles are coming off a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten and second ranked Northville in Grand Ledge.

Stoney Creek has wins over top ranked Rochester, 12th ranked Utica Eisenhower, and 15th ranked Saline. Hudsonville has wins over second ranked Northville, 7th ranked Portage Central this postseason.

It should be a very interesting matchup to watch on Saturday afternoon at Michigan State.

North Farmington has their new Girls Basketball Coach.

Written Monday June 12th at 2:30 PM

North Farmington has their new girls basketball coach.

The Raiders will name Michael Allan as their new girls basketball coach confirmed by a very accurate source. He replaces Jeff Simpson whom has been with North Farmington for 29 years with the program. Simpson will retire from teaching at North Farmington next year.

Allan was an assistant at Waterford Kettering under then and current West Bloomfield Coach Darrin McAllister. He was the Junior Varsity Coach at Lapeer this past season. The Lightning went 11-10 under Allan last season.

Allan is known for bringing toughness, grit, and desire. It will be something that he will preach with his new program this season.

North Farmington went 22-0 which was their first undefeated season in school history but the Raiders fell to Farmington Hills Mercy in the district finals last season. The Raiders lost several very talented players but they have Asiyah Jihad and Hannah Hart coming back. Program strength was a big concern under Simpson and the problems surrounding it look to be ongoing for Allan.

North Farmington will be in the White with Groves, Royal Oak, Seaholm, Bloomfield Hills, and Harper Woods this winter. The districts have not been released yet.

It will be a very interesting transition period to watch at North Farmington.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Girls Soccer Semifinal and Softball Quarterfinal Previews.

Written Saturday June 10th at 8:00 PM

As we head into the final week of the 2022-2023 school year here is a preview heading into the final week for girls soccer and softball.

Girls Soccer

Saline at STONEY CREEK-6 PM Wednesday.

The Cougars have went through a lot especially in the postseason where they upset Rochester in the district finals winning probably one of the toughest districts in the state and got a hard fought win over New Baltimore Anchor Bay in the regional finals. Stoney Creek has a home game in the State Semifinals against a very good Saline program. The Hornets have been very good all season. It should be very interesting on Wednesday evening in Rochester.

Softball

LAKE ORION vs Utica Ford II- 4:30 PM Tuesday at Troy Athens

The Dragons are riding with a ton of confidence after beating top ranked Macomb Dakota in the regional final at Oxford. Lake Orion has a chance to get to Michigan State if they can get by a very good Utica Ford II program. The Falcons beat Bloomfield Hills and Warren Regina in the regional but this might be their toughest test yet with the Dragons. It should be a very interesting matchup between two proven programs.

Baseball Regional Final Preview.

Written Wednesday June 7th at 7:20 PM

Here is the regional final preview for baseball.

Region 7 @ St. Clair Community College in Port Huron

The regional finals are Saturday with the winners will play each other in the State Quarterfinals on the same day.

LAKE ORION vs Macomb Dakota

The Dragons pulled off their third win over a State ranked team in the postseason. They will have a rematch with the Cougars. Both teams won road games to get to this regional final. Macomb Dakota beat Sterling Heights Stevenson 4-2 while Lake Orion beat Lakeland 9-4. The Cougars and Dragons have met before this season. Macomb Dakota beat Lake Orion 8-1 and 4-3 on the final day of the regular season. It should be a very interesting rematch between these two teams on Saturday morning.

TROY ATHENS vs Grand Blanc

The Red Hawks are coming in with house money after they pulled off a shocking upset of Adams 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Auburn Hills. Troy Athens will take on a Grand Blanc squad that has a ton of confidence. The Bobcats beat arch rival Davison 9-3 to get to this game. Grand Blanc is the better team on paper but that’s why they play the game.

Adams has their new Boys Basketball Coach.

Written Tuesday June 6th at 9:50 PM

Updated Tuesday June 6th at 9:55 PM

Adams will have a new boys basketball coach next winter.

The Highlanders named Isaiah Novak as their new Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. Novak takes over for Jaret Thomas whom stepped down and is now coaching at Avondale.

"Adams is happy to welcome Isaiah Novak as the next head coach of the Boys Basketball program. He brings 13 years of experience at the high school and JUCO (junior college) level. He is an educator and coach who believes if you do things right, good things will happen" Adams Athletics said on Twitter.

"I'm extremely blessed for this opportunity to work with such an amazing Rochester Hills community. We will work hard to win the right way and make our community proud, if you do things right, good things will happen" Novak said in a tweet.

Novak coached at Madison Heights Lamphere for two years from 2021-2023. He went 20-23 in his two years with the program. The Rams went 11-12 and had a stretch where they went 3-8 but went 8-4 to close out the season. Madison Heights Lamphere fell to Birmingham Detroit Country Day 65-42 in the first round last season.

Prior to being at Madison Heights Lamphere, Novak does have a Catholic League background. He is a 2005 alumni at Madison Heights Bishop Foley. He coached at Madison Heights Bishop Foley from 2014-2016 to a 21-24 record. Novak was at Birmingham Brother Rice as the program’s junior varsity coach under Coach Rick Palmer.

Novak takes over a program that saw a ton of success. Adams won their second straight district crown and their first regional crown in school history. They fell to Grand Blanc in the Division One State Quarterfinals last season.

Novak will have a very difficult task ahead of him. He will have a program that is in one of the toughest divisions in the State in the Red with West Bloomfield, Groves, Ferndale, Clarkston, Oak Park, and North Farmington.

Adams has two very talented proven guards in Peter Karsaisis and William Gee coming back and also program strength is very strong. The question is can Novak build on the success that Thomas left???

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
