The Red Hawks went in house with their new hire.
Troy Athens named Mitchell Vercellino as their new head coach. He takes over for Coach Dave Scott who stepped down last month.
The hire was confirmed on the MHSAA website.
Vercellino was the varsity assistant last season and was the long time the junior varsity coach under Scott prior to that.
The Red Hawks will have Nathan Piggott, Liam Dempsey, Nate Appledorn, Brendan Tucker, and Alex Beaubien coming back for Vercellino. Troy Athens went 14-9 last season under Scott.
Troy Athens will be in the White with arch rival Troy, Harper Woods, Seaholm, Oxford, Lake Orion, Farmington, and Oak Park this season.
Thoughts
I don't expect much change with Vercellino taking over the program. He is very familiar with the players so the transition period would be smoother. Expect the same scrappiness defensively as in years past with Troy Athens.
