Ferndale University has a new Boys Basketball Coach.

Written Tuesday October 7th at 8:25 PM

Ferndale University has their new boys basketball coach.

The Eagles named Anton Bradford as their new head coach. Bradford replaces Josh Nicks who left Ferndale University for Hazel Park this offseason.

The D-Zone and the MHSAA website confirmed the hire.

Bradford brings a ton of coaching experience to Ferndale University. He was at Detroit Osborn from 2020-2024 posting a 34-48 record with the Knights.

Ferndale University went 10-12 and was 32-57 overall in Nicks's four years in the program. They had a shocking 62-54 win at Stoney Creek. The Eagles started the season at 5-0 but went 7-12 the rest of the way which included a 78-37 loss to Warren Lincoln in the district semifinals last season.

The Eagles have to replace a ton of talent from last season but there are several players that are coming back which should help. They have four kids that Bradford is bringing into the program according to a source. Bradford will have to go through a transition period with his new program. Also he will have to build the program through program strength.

Ferndale University is in the Gold with Southfield Arts and Tech, Berkley, Waterford Kettering, Oak Park, and Harper Woods. The division is wide open with all six of these teams having a chance to win it. The Eagles are in a very tough district with city rival Ferndale along with Detroit Old Redford, Detroit Jalen Rose Academy, and Hazel Park who is coached by Nicks. It would be really interesting if the Eagles had to go up against Vikings in the postseason.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
