Boys Basketball Regional Preview.

Written Saturday February 28th at 9:12 PM

Here is the preview of the regionals in boys basketball.

Region 15 @ Eastpointe

FERNDALE vs Warren Lincoln

Harper Woods Chandler Park vs Detroit University Prep

THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a really interesting regional. Ferndale and Warren Lincoln will be a very interesting matchup. The Abes lost a ton of talent from years past but it's still a well coached program that had to get by Detroit Pershing in their district final. Detroit University Prep is a very good team that is well coached under former Hazel Park coach Brendan Barrett. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy has had a really good season as well. This is a wide open regional which makes this very interesting.

Region 8 @ Troy

ROYAL OAK vs Macomb L'Anse Creuse North

Chippewa Valley vs Roseville

THOUGHTS: This is basically a Macomb County regional with the exception of Royal Oak. The Ravens won their first district crown in school history by winning over Warren Mott, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, and Troy to make it to the regional but they will have a very tough matchup with Macomb L'Anse Creuse North in the regional semifinals. Macomb L'Anse Creuse North shocked Macomb Dakota on their home floor to get to the regional. Roseville had to get by Warren Cousino to win their district. Chippewa Valley won their fifth district crown in six years with a win over Utica Ford II in their district. This is a very interesting regional that is wide open but Roseville looks like the early favorite to win this regional.

Region 7 @ Waterford Mott

OXFORD vs ADAMS

AVONDALE vs WEST BLOOMFIELD

THOUGHTS: This is an all OAA regional which has a White matchup and a Red matchup in the regional semifinals. The Wildcats shocked Grand Blanc and Davison to win their district. Adams had to get by Stoney Creek and shocked previously unbeaten Rochester to win their district. West Bloomfield shocked Orchard Lake St. Marys. Avondale had to get by Lake Orion and Clarkston to win their district. The Highlanders beat the Wildcats twice while the Yellow Jackets beat the Lakers twice this season but it's always hard to beat a team three times in a season but Avondale has proven they can do it by beating Clarkston three times this season. This should be a very interesting regional with the Yellow Jackets being the favorite to get past this regional.

Region 6 @ Detroit Renaissance

FARMINGTON vs Warren Fitzgerald

Birmingham Brother Rice vs Detroit Cass Tech

THOUGHTS: This is a tough regional when looking at it. Farmington won their second straight district crown winning over Redford Thurston. They will have a really tough matchup against a good Warren Fitzgerald program in the regional semifinals. The other side is brutal with the defending Division One State Champs in Detroit Cass Tech taking on Birmingham Brother Rice. Can you imagine a possible storyline of Greg Grays going up against his former school, that is possible if the Warriors and Falcons win their matchups. This should be a really interesting regional to watch.

Williams out at Stoney Creek.

Written Tuesday February 24th at 8:06 AM

Updated Wednesday February 25th at 1:20 PM

Friday to Monday have seen a lot of emotions surrounding the Stoney Creek Girls Basketball program.

The Cougars dismissed girls basketball coach Columbus Williams and most of his staff on Monday. MIPrepZone's Bryan Emerson and several sources confirmed the move.

Stoney Creek Athletic Director and former North Farmington Boys Basketball Coach Todd Negoshian will be the interim coach for the Cougars final two games and postseason run which will start next Wednesday against Romeo at Utica Eisenhower in the district semifinals.

Cougars freshman coach Joey Tocco and Stoney Creek assistant Zoran Ivezaj were retained according to a different source.

The Cougars were whistled for seven technical fouls in total (three bench technical fouls, three player technical fouls, and an intentional foul), plus a parent was ejected in their 48-29 loss to Rochester on Friday night.

Stoney Creek players were notified and were able to ask questions about the decision and the future of the program. The school sent out a statement according to Emerson was "At Stoney Creek educational athletics are an integral extension of the classroom, our mission is to maintain a student centered community with high expectations for conduct and sportsmanship. Following the incident at this past Friday's game, we have determined that a change in leadership is necessary to uphold these standards" the statement said.

The Cougars still have their goals in front of them when it comes to districts. They are 17-4 with Macomb Dakota on the road to close the season. Stoney Creek clinched a share of the Red title (Clarkston) with a 37-35 win at West Bloomfield on Tuesday night. The Cougars are the two seed in their district. They will play Romeo in the district semifinals with the possibly seeing Utica Eisenhower in the district finals if they can win over the Bulldogs.

Williams was an assistant at Utica Ford II before coming to Stoney Creek went 52-18 in his three years with the program. He went 20-6 with a State Quarterfinal appearance in his first season in 2024.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Here is the article from Emerson from the Oakland Press.

Girls Basketball District Matchups 2026.

Written Tuesday June 10th at 12:11 PM

Updated Sunday March 1st at 8:40 AM

This will be updated very often and if things change. I'll have more information on future podcasts.

District 60 @ Birmingham Detroit Country Day

5. FERNDALE UNIVERSITY vs 4. Hazel Park

Winner plays 1. Birmingham Detroit Country Day

6. FERNDALE vs 3. Center Line

Winner plays 2. Madison Heights Lamphere

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Cira Racco- Birmingham Detroit Country Day

X FACTOR- Janiyah Thomas- Center Line

FAVORITE: Birmingham Detroit Country Day

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Center Line

MOST DANGEROUS: Madison Heights Lamphere

KEY STORYLINE: Can anyone beat Birmingham Detroit Country Day in this district???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping to be a interesting district. Birmingham Detroit Country Day is the overwhelming favorite. Madison Heights Lamphere is the two seed and they could see Center Line in the district semifinals which would be a very interesting matchup. Ferndale University and Hazel Park is a very interesting first round matchup but the winner gets the Yellow Jackets in the district semifinals which is going to be a tough matchup. I don't see anyone touching Birmingham Detroit Country Day in this district.

District 59 @ Eastpointe

5. Eastpointe vs 4. Warren Lincoln

Winner plays 1. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy

3. St. Clair Shores South Lake vs 2. HARPER WOODS

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Laynah West- Harper Woods

X FACTOR- Jayda Davis- Harper Woods

FAVORITE: Harper Woods Chandler Park

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Harper Woods Chandler Park

MOST DANGEROUS: Harper Woods

KEY STORYLINE: Can Harper Woods get to a district final???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a district that is not as strong in years past. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy is the favorite to win this district. Harper Woods is a very interesting team. The Pioneers have been up and down recently which puts them prone to be possibly upset by St. Clair Shores South Lake whom has struggled this season. This could be a battle of Harper Woods district final but the Cavaliers might have something to say about that.

District 29 @ Warren Mott

5. Warren Mott vs. 4. Warren Cousino

Winner plays 1. TROY ATHENS

3. ROYAL OAK vs 2. TROY

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Maci Zeiter- Troy

X FACTOR- Katrina Tasich- Troy Athens

FAVORITE: Troy Athens

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Troy

MOST DANGEROUS: Royal Oak

KEY STORYLINE: Can Troy exceed expectations???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This district should be very interesting. Troy Athens has been playing very well and deserve the top seed in the district. The Red Hawks could see Warren Cousino who has a new coach in former Ferndale University coach Bennie Szczepkowski coaching them. The Patriots won 49-35 over Warren Mott which is the reason why they would be wearing white in the first round despite getting to sit on the visiting bench. Warren Mott has been up and down lately. Troy is the clear two seed but they have a really difficult matchup with Royal Oak in the district semifinals. Troy Athens is clearly the favorite but Troy could have a say and maybe the Ravens as well.

District 28 @ Utica Eisenhower

5. Utica vs 4. ROCHESTER

Winner plays 1. Utica Eisenhower

3. Romeo vs 2. STONEY CREEK

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Calista Ivezaj- Stoney Creek

X FACTOR- Layla Babbich- Romeo

FAVORITE: Utica Eisenhower

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Stoney Creek

MOST DANGEROUS: Rochester

KEY STORYLINE: Can Stoney Creek overcome adversity???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a really interesting district. The district has a ton of storylines. Utica Eisenhower has been 15-1 since the calendar turned to 2026. They won the Macomb Area Conference Red crown and has home court for the district. The Eagles won 49-46 in a very controversial district final at Stoney Creek over the Cougars last season. Stoney Creek should contend but they have to stay disciplined and in control mentally if they want to win this district. Romeo is very dangerous and has had a very strong season. Rochester is a Jekyll and Hyde type of team. Utica has struggled all season. This looks to be a rematch in the district finals but with the Cougars, the injury to Sam Fulkerson is huge at the moment and it's unknown if she will come back and the Bulldogs won't be an easy matchup for Stoney Creek in the district semifinals. This district for now looks like it's Utica Eisenhower's to lose.

District 27 @ Lake Orion

5. AVONDALE vs 4. WATERFORD

Winner plays 1. CLARKSTON

3. ADAMS vs 2. LAKE ORION

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Faith Zoldus- Adams

X FACTOR- Sasha McClellan-Avondale

FAVORITE: Clarkston

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Lake Orion

MOST DANGEROUS: Avondale

KEY STORYLINE: Can anyone beat Clarkston in this district???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district which has multiple storylines. Clarkston is the overwhelming favorite to win this district but they need to be wary of Avondale and for good reason. The Yellow Jackets have made some big changes and is not your ordinary five seed. Avondale has also played a tough schedule which their opponents win percentage is very high, only Lake Orion is higher and we know how insane their non conference slate has been. The Yellow Jackets will have a really interesting first round matchup with Waterford United in the first round and if they win that then it's Clarkston and that could be very interesting to say the least. Speaking of the Dragons, they have really struggled with the non conference plus the Red as well but they are the two seed after the season they have had. Lake Orion has a 55-51 hard fought win over Adams but the game serves as a motivator to the Highlanders in the district semifinals. This should be a very interesting district as mentioned, the Wolves are favored to win this district but if they get Avondale in the district semifinals, they need to be on upset alert. The Dragons really need to be on upset alert against Adams.

District 26 @ Oxford

5. Holly vs 4. Lapeer

Winner plays 1. Davison

3. Grand Blanc vs 2. OXFORD

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Kaitlyn Brockway- Oxford

X FACTOR- Savannah Rice- Davison

FAVORITE: Oxford

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Davison

MOST DANGEROUS: Oxford

KEY STORYLINE: Can Oxford win this district???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is setting up to be a very interesting district at Ian Smith Gym. The Wildcats and Cardinals could battle it out for the district crown. Davison has a solid team. Oxford is also a solid team. Grand Blanc is the wildcard and could pose some trouble for the Wildcats in the district semifinals. Lapeer and Holly should be an interesting matchup but a rematch between the Lightning and Cardinals seem likely in the district semifinals. This is setting up to be Oxford and Davison in the district finals barring any upsets.

District 25 @ Lakeland

5. Walled Lake Central vs 4. Walled Lake Northern

Winner plays 1. Orchard Lake St. Marys

3. Lakeland vs 2. WEST BLOOMFIELD

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Sheridan Beal- West Bloomfield

X FACTOR- Allie Crighton- Orchard Lake St. Marys

FAVORITE: West Bloomfield

PRONE TO BE UPSET: West Bloomfield

MOST DANGEROUS: Lakeland

KEY STORYLINE: Can Orchard Lake St. Marys beat West Bloomfield???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a two team district in White Lake. Orchard Lake St. Marys has been on a mission under former Stoney Creek girls and Adams boys basketball coach Brad Crighton with three losses to proven powerhouses in Goodrich, Saginaw Heritage, and Jackson Lumen Christi. West Bloomfield is another very good program with multiple State Championships and final four appearances that has continued their dominance under Coach Darrin McAllister. Lakeland could give the Lakers a challenge in the district semifinals and has home court. Walled Lake Northern will see Walled Lake Central in the first round but the Knights will likely see Orchard Lake St. Marys which is a very dangerous matchup. Overall this district looks like it will be the Eaglets and Lakers squaring off for the district crown.

District 24 @ Bloomfield Hills

5. SEAHOLM vs 4. NORTH FARMINGTON

Winner plays 1. GROVES

3. Birmingham Marian vs 2. BLOOMFIELD HILLS

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Ella Swanson- Birmingham Marian

X FACTOR- Harlem Simpson- Groves

FAVORITE: Groves

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Bloomfield Hills

MOST DANGEROUS: Groves

KEY STORYLINE: Is this Groves year to win their first district since 2022???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This district has some really interesting storylines. Groves has a golden opportunity to win their first district since 2022 when Coach AntJuan Simpkins led the program but was let go the following season. The Falcons went with Alison Hidey but she left after two years and went to Livonia Stevenson where she has turned the Spartans into a powerhouse. Coach Jessica Duleba has taken over and turned this program around with a run and gun offense and full court press style of play. Groves has not been their blowout selves since the month turned to February, the Falcons are 3-3 since which included losses to proven powerhouses in Birmingham Detroit Country Day, Milford, and West Bloomfield. Bloomfield Hills has had a really nice season especially with multiple freshmen along with a veteran presence that has done wonders. The Black Hawks need to be careful of Birmingham Marian. The Mustangs have really struggled with a new coaching staff and a transition period but they are still Birmingham Marian with their legacy. North Farmington has had a strong year winning the Gold in their final season in the OAA departing for the Lakes Valley Conference next season. Seaholm has really struggled to find their footing this season. The Raiders or Maples could have some issues with the Falcons style of play in the district semifinals. This district looks like this is Groves to lose.

District 23 @ Southfield Arts and Tech

5. BERKLEY vs 4. Warren Fitzgerald

Winner plays 1. Detroit Renaissance

6. OAK PARK vs 3. SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

Winner plays 2. Detroit Mumford

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Nicqo Shoulders- Berkley

X FACTOR- Jaebrian Autry- Detroit Renaissance

FAVORITE: Detroit Renaissance

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Detroit Renaissance

MOST DANGEROUS: Southfield Arts and Tech

KEY STORYLINE: Can anyone touch Detroit Renaissance???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district. Detroit Renaissance is the favorite to come out of this district. Detroit Mumford is the two seed but there will be challengers to the Detroit Public School League powerhouse programs. Warren Fitzgerald could stand out against Detroit Renaissance but the Spartans will have to deal with a Berkley program that has really struggled this season but has one of the bigs in Nicqo Shoulders. Southfield Arts and Tech is a serious threat to the Mustangs. The Warriors are athletic and have been very competitive throughout the season. Southfield Arts and Tech has enough talent to get to the district finals. This is still the Phoenix district to lose.

District 22 @ Livonia Stevenson

5. FARMINGTON vs 4. Redford Thurston

Winner plays 1. Livonia Stevenson

3. Livonia Franklin vs 2. Farmington Hills Mercy

PLAYER ON THE SPOT- Elle Geerings- Farmington Hills Mercy

X FACTOR- Sydney Nogas- Farmington

FAVORITE: Livonia Stevenson

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Farmington Hills Mercy

MOST DANGEROUS: Livonia Stevenson

KEY STORYLINE: Are we heading on a collision course between Farmington Hills Mercy and Livonia Stevenson???

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district final between Livonia Stevenson and Farmington Hills Mercy if they both can get there. I don't see anyone really touching the Spartans and Marlins. Livonia Franklin could be a wildcard or maybe Redford Thurston. Farmington will have a tough go in the district. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Football Offseason Watch 2026.

Written Sunday February 15th at 11:35 AM

Here are some storylines to watch heading into the 2026 season for football.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets are going to have to go through their fourth coach in five years with JayRamond Hall taking over the program. It was a disaster for Avondale going 1-8 and both sides of the football really struggled last season. What should help is having a player like Bryan Collins coming back should help for Hall. The key for the Yellow Jackets will be stability this spring and summer.

Berkley: The Bears are going to go through a transition period as Dan Earls takes over the program. Earls is an offensive mind which is what the Berkley needs. Both sides of the football have some big questions. There has to be a transition period which has to happen during the season.

Ferndale: The Eagles missed out on the postseason last season but Coach Donovan Jackson has seen a lot of growth which should help heading into his second season. The losses to River Rouge and Harper Woods hurt Ferndale's postseason dreams last season. The Eagles have a ton of experience coming back which always helps. The key for Jackson is program building especially in the long term.

Royal Oak: The Ravens are going to be very interesting to watch this summer. There are a ton of questions this summer. Royal Oak got outscored 51-7 in the final two weeks of the season last season. Identity has to be the key for Coach Collin Campbell this summer.

Pontiac: The Phoenix have done a very good job building program strength which has been a key for Coach Wendell Jefferson. Pontiac is still building but everything else is starting to come in line. It will be very interesting to see what Jefferson does heading into year three with the program but things are starting to come together.

Waterford Kettering: The Captains return to the OAA which brings optimism to a program that really needs it. Waterford Kettering was the worst defensive team in the Lakes Valley Conference last season. The Captains also need coaching stability as Cullen Conway was the interim coach but now is the permanent coach this season. Defense and stability will be key for Waterford Kettering if they want to make some ground this summer.

Troy: It was a rough year for the Colts which saw them score 21 points in the final six weeks of last season. Troy is in a very interesting spot for Coach Chris Frasier this summer. The key for the Colts will be offense along with building an identity this summer. Program strength will also be something to watch as well.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks were a completely different team in the final five weeks of the season despite missing the postseason. Troy Athens lost a lot of proven talent but the identity is there for Coach Tom Cook's program. The key is can the Red Hawks keep the momentum that was gained from the final five weeks with the younger players and not go backwards, that's the key to success.

Seaholm: The Maples really over performed for Coach Jim DeWald getting to the postseason despite a 1-5 record down the stretch last season. DeWald has built a strong foundation in Birmingham which has seen a ton of success. The key for DeWald is keeping that sustainability heading into the summer on both sides of the football. Seaholm should be a force to watch this fall.

Bloomfield Hills: The Black Hawks went through a transition year under Coach Scott Merchant which didn't produce the results they wanted but it's key to go through that transition. Now it's Merchant's second year with the program and they have seem to have everything put together. The defense will be the key for Merchant this spring and summer. Bloomfield Hills has the offense in place to really make some noise but defense is the key.

Waterford Mott: The Corsairs reenter the OAA after being in the Lakes Valley Conference. Waterford Mott was a postseason team falling to Midland Dow in the first round. The Corsairs have athletes and should be competitive in the Blue. Coach Tra'Jan Seay knows the OAA very well which should help. The Corsairs key will be quarterback and depth which will be something to watch this spring and summer.

Oak Park: The Knights are in a very interesting spot. They lost a lot of talent from a team that had a rough 14-13 loss to Lake Orion last season which cost them a trip to the postseason. It will be very interesting to see what Coach Greg Carter has in the program. Program strength will be the key for Carter and something to watch this spring and summer.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors had a very rough year for Coach Keith McKenzie but the schedule was very brutal. McKenzie is hoping that the 1-8 year should toughen his program up. Mental mindset and program strength are going to be something to watch with Southfield Arts and Tech this summer.

Rochester: The Falcons have a quarterback wide receiver duo coming back which helps and they made the postseason which was even better when it comes to program building. Taking the next step will be key for Coach Eric Vernon and Rochester along with the defense. They did lose a lot of experience and the defense will need to step up this summer but there is a ton of optimism for Falcon football.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars have a ton of high upside coming back after getting to the district finals and beating Macomb County neighbor Utica Eisenhower last season. Coach Rick Powell has done a great job building program strength and created a winning culture with the Cougars. Sustainability will be the key this summer for the Cougars especially the sophomore class on down with the program. This could be a special year as mentioned if things go right with Stoney Creek.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers had a very disappointing 10-7 loss to Dearborn Divine Child in the regional final where the Falcons defense shut down Harper Woods high octane offense last season. Coach Rob Oden has a lot of talent coming back but losing their quarterback will hurt. The key for the Pioneers is sustainability and the need to address the quarterback spot this summer.

Groves: The Falcons made an incredible run getting to the Division Two State Semifinals last season. They have their running back coming back which helps. Groves has a ton of questions that Coach Brendan Flaherty needs to address this summer. Program strength will be something to watch as well. The Falcons have the talent to compete but it will be interesting to see how the younger players step into those roles this summer for Flaherty.

Lake Orion: The Dragons will look to rebound from a very disastrous 1-8 year last season. Lake Orion has the majority of their offense coming back which should help. The defense has a ton of question marks along with depth. The Dragons were injury riddled to their defense but lack of depth also hurt as well. The key for Coach Chris Bell will be program identity along with building depth on both sides of the football (more one way players) and staying away from the injury bug. Building program depth will be key this summer for Bell and company.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers are in a very interesting spot. West Bloomfield lost a lot of talent on both sides of the football and will have to replace a ton of experience. Program strength will be the key for Coach Zach Hilbers as he will have a tall task this spring and summer when it comes to program strength. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with the Lakers.

Oxford: The Wildcats really overachieved in Coach Trevor Potts first year as varsity coach getting to the postseason. Oxford loses their quarterback which is a big loss but everyone else is coming back. The Wildcats are built for the short and long term. Sustainability will be the key for Potts in his second year as varsity coach and also quarterback will be something to watch as well this summer. Oxford could be in line for another successful year this fall.

Clarkston: The Wolves will be a very interesting program to watch this summer. They lost a lot of talent and experience but their sub varsity programs went unbeaten which helps but it doesn't always translate to varsity. Coach Justin Pintar has done a very good job with the program and they have their quarterback coming back. The key for Clarkston will be the defense and if the younger players can step up to bigger roles this summer.

Adams: The Highlanders lost a lot of talent from last season but knowing Coach Tony Patritto the talent is far from bare. Adams veer offense always keeps people honest. It will be very interesting to see what Patritto has coming back this summer. The key for the Highlanders is who steps up to replace the talent that was lost from last season and can they sustain heading into the fall.

Boys Basketball District Matchups-2026.

Written Tuesday June 10th at 12:11 PM

Updated Sunday February 15th at 9:15 AM

District 62 @ Goodrich

5. Linden vs 4. Lake Fenton

Winner plays 1. Goodrich

6. Brandon vs 3. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

Winner plays 2. PONTIAC

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: JJ Claudio-Pontiac

X FACTOR: Dominic Melaragni- Goodrich

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Goodrich

MOST DANGEROUS: Pontiac

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This will be a very interesting district. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep has been red hot and has been gaining a ton of momentum since their loss Detroit Loyola winning six of their last eight games. If the Fighting Irish get past Brandon in the first round then it sets up a really interesting matchup with Pontiac in the district semifinals. The Fighting Irish beat the Phoenix 55-52 at Pontiac in the district finals last season. Both teams are different this season which makes this possible matchup that more interesting. The Phoenix have been on a roll and they are built for the now and in the future. Goodrich is the favorite to win this district with home court and a legendary coach in Gary Barns. They are on the other side and they'll get the winner of Lake Fenton and Linden. Goodrich have beaten Lake Fenton twice but they have not played Linden this season. The Martians and Phoenix would be a very interesting district final but both teams will have very interesting semifinal matchups if they can get there. Goodrich needs to be on upset alert despite having home court in this district.

District 60 @ Harper Woods Chandler Park

5. Detroit East English Village Prep vs 4. HARPER WOODS

Winner plays 1. Detroit Edwin Denby Tech

6. St. Clair Shores South Lake vs 3. Eastpointe

Winner plays 2. Harper Woods Chandler Park

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Samuel Pettit- Harper Woods

X FACTOR: Delvon Dixson- Detroit Edwin Denby Tech

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Harper Woods Chandler Park

MOST DANGEROUS: Detroit Edwin Denby Tech

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting district and a tough road for Harper Woods. The Pioneers will have to see Detroit East English Village Prep in the first round and if they win that game then they will see Detroit Edwin Denby Tech in the district semifinals which is going to be very tough. Eastpointe has been rolling as of late. They could give Harper Woods Chandler Park problems in the district semifinals but they have to play St. Clair Shores South Lake in the first round. The Shamrocks beat the Cavaliers twice but it's always hard to beat a team three times. This is a wide open district to watch.

District 58 @ Detroit Old Redford

5. Detroit Jalen Rose Academy vs 4. Detroit Lincoln King Academy

Winner plays 1. FERNDALE

6. FERNDALE UNIVERSITY vs 3. Detroit Old Redford Academy

Winner plays 2. Hazel Park

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Drew Wilson-Detroit Old Redford Academy

X FACTOR: Eden Vinyard- Ferndale

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Detroit Old Redford Academy

MOST DANGEROUS: Ferndale

SAMMY THOUGHTS: The Eagles are the overwhelming favorite in this district based off of their demanding schedule. Ferndale University has a good chance to make an impact in this district. The Eagles could make the district finals with the way this bracket is set up. Detroit Old Redford Academy is dangerous but they haven't played well lately. Hazel Park might have a shot as well and have the other bye. This looks to be Ferndale's district to lose.

District 29 @ Troy Athens

5. Warren Mott vs 4. ROYAL OAK

Winner plays 1. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

3. TROY ATHENS vs 2. TROY

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: CJ Hairston- Royal Oak

X FACTOR: Alan Spahic- Troy Athens

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

MOST DANGEROUS: Troy

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district. Troy, Troy Athens, and Royal Oak know each other very well playing in the Blue this season. The Red Hawks and Colts split their season series winning on the opposite floor and both teams have beaten the Ravens at least once. Royal Oak got the best draw despite their struggles and issues. The Ravens should get past Warren Mott in the first round and play Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood in the district semifinals which is extremely winnable. Troy vs Troy Athens round three should be a fun one to watch in the district semifinals. This is a wide open district.

District 28 @ Utica Eisenhower

5. Utica Eisenhower vs 4. Utica

Winner plays 1. ROCHESTER

6. Romeo vs 3. STONEY CREEK

Winner plays 2. ADAMS

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Cannon Flynn- Adams

X FACTOR: Logan Pleasant- Rochester

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Rochester

MOST DANGEROUS: Utica Eisenhower

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This district could have a ton of storylines. Rochester has been unbeaten all season long and they have beaten three teams that are in this district this season (Adams, Stoney Creek, and Utica.) The Falcons could see some traps along the way starting with a district semifinal matchup with Utica or Utica Eisenhower. The Eagles have had a miserable season mainly because of injuries but when they are healthy they are very dangerous. Utica has been red hot, winners of five of their last six games. The Chieftains beat the Eagles twice but lost to the Falcons 66-41 back in December. Stoney Creek and Adams are on the other side of the bracket. The Highlanders split with the Cougars with each team winning on the opposing home floor. Stoney Creek beat Romeo 65-45 before Christmas so that will be a rematch in the first round. The Highlanders and Cougars have proven to give problems to Rochester and would love to get another shot at the Falcons as would everyone else in this district particularly those that have played them. Coach Nick Evola and the Falcons know that they are the HUNTED and not the HUNTERS.

District 27 @ Lake Orion

5. WATERFORD KETTERING vs 4. LAKE ORION

Winner plays 1. AVONDALE

3. WATERFORD MOTT vs 2. CLARKSTON

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Nate Giacolone- Lake Orion

X FACTOR: JaKobe Liford- Avondale

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Avondale

MOST DANGEROUS: Lake Orion

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This could be a very interesting district in Dragon Country. Avondale has had a very successful season with the top seed and is the favorite in the district. The Yellow Jackets are more than capable of having a deep postseason run especially if they can win this district. Avondale could see Lake Orion in the district semifinals which could be very interesting pending if the Dragons can get by Waterford Kettering on their home floor. The Dragons know JaKobe Liford extremely well (Liford played at Lake Orion during his freshman and sophomore seasons before transferring to Auburn Hills.) Lake Orion matches the Yellow Jackets when it comes to size and experience however Avondale has the advantage athletically. The coaching matchup should also be very interesting between Coach Jose Andredas and Coach Aaron Fox. Clarkston and Waterford Mott should be very interesting in the district semifinals. The Wolves are a systematic program which they've always been under legendary Coach Dan Fife has created and Coach Tim Waslik has kept. The Corsairs have two athletic bigs in Tori Robinson and Damari Stephens but the depth is a concern for Coach Jeff Jayson. This should be a very interesting district to watch.

District 26 @ West Bloomfield

5. Lakeland vs 4. WEST BLOOMFIELD

Winner plays 1. Walled Lake Northern

3. Walled Lake Central vs 2. Orchard Lake St. Marys

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Anthony Camacho- Walled Lake Central

X FACTOR: Curtis Britton- West Bloomfield

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Walled Lake Northern

MOST DANGEROUS: Orchard Lake St. Marys

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district. West Bloomfield is the host and got a great draw despite getting the four seed and dealing with an injury to Curtis Britton. If the Lakers were to win over Lakeland then they would see Walled Lake Northern in the district semifinals which looks very winnable for Coach Arnette Jordan. The Knights have been solid under Coach Ryan Negoshian and have the top seed in the district. Orchard Lake St. Marys is very dangerous and should get to the district finals. It won't be an easy road for anyone who might have to deal with the Eaglets.

District 25 @ Oxford

5. Holly vs 4. OXFORD

Winner plays 1. Grand Blanc

6. Lapeer vs 3. Flint Kearsley

Winner plays 2. Davison

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Brennan Elling- Oxford

X FACTOR: Aiden Tipton- Flint Kearsley

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Davison

MOST DANGEROUS: Flint Kearsley

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This district looks like a complete mismatch on paper. Grand Blanc is the favorite and is coming off a very tough loss in the Saginaw Valley League championship game to Saginaw Heritage but there are some unique matchups. Oxford and Holly is an upset trap waiting to happen in the first round. Flint Kearsley and Davison would be a fun matchup in the district semifinals. The Cardinals survived the Hornets 70-69 earlier in the season. No one though is touching the Bobcats unless some miracle happens.

District 24 @ Southfield Arts and Tech

5. GROVES vs 4. SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

Winner plays 1. Birmingham Brother Rice

6. BERKLEY vs 3. SEAHOLM

Winner plays 2. BLOOMFIELD HILLS

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Greg Grays- Birmingham Brother Rice

X FACTOR: Daron Mason- Bloomfield Hills

PRONE TO GET UPSET: Birmingham Brother Rice

MOST DANGEROUS: Seaholm

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This district could have some interesting storylines. Southfield Arts and Tech has been very consistent and has home court. Groves has had a rough season. Seaholm has been rolling and is very dangerous right now. Bloomfield Hills has had a very strong season and has been under the radar. I've heard a lot of talk of Birmingham Brother Rice, this and that from The PREP Sports site but I think the Warriors are on upset alert. Birmingham Brother Rice had an early exit in the Catholic League tournament despite having a strong season. The Black Hawks are more than capable of winning this district but they'll likely have to see the Maples in the district semifinals, a team that they have beaten twice but it's always hard to beat a team three times. This will be a district that will be very interesting.

District 23 @ Hamtramck

5. OAK PARK vs 4. Detroit Mumford

Winner plays 1. Warren Fitzgerald

6. Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit vs 3. Hamtramck

Winner plays 2. Detroit Renaissance

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Colin Langdon- Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit.

X FACTOR: Jayden Miller- Detroit Renaissance

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Detroit Renaissance

MOST DANGEROUS: Hamtramck

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district in Hamtramck. The host Cosmos along with Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit and Detroit Renaissance are on one side of the bracket which is very interesting. The Cubs have been very disappointing going through a coaching change and a transition period this season. Warren Fitzgerald has a good draw to get to the district finals. This is going to be very tough for Oak Park. The Knights will have it tough with Detroit Mumford in the first round and if they win over the Mustangs then they will see the Spartans in the district semifinals, as mentioned it's going to be tough for the Knights.

District 22 @ Livonia Stevenson

5. NORTH FARMINGTON vs 4. Livonia Stevenson

Winner plays 1. Redford Thurston

6. Livonia Churchill vs 3. FARMINGTON

Winner plays 2. Livonia Franklin

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Myles Smith-Farmington

X FACTOR: Jayden Glinz- North Farmington

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Livonia Franklin

MOST DANGEROUS: Farmington

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district. North Farmington has a shot if they play well against Livonia Stevenson in the first round but they will have it tough with Redford Thurston in the district semifinals. The Raiders inconsistency could be their biggest downfall. Farmington has a shot but they need to get by Livonia Churchill which they should and then Livonia Franklin in the district semifinals. North Farmington has the toughest road having to play the host Spartans on that Monday but the Falcons road is not rosy but is better off than their arch rivals. It's possible that the Farmington schools could meet in the district final however both teams have tough paths.

Postseason Updates.

Written Saturday February 7th at 11:30 AM

Pontiac

GIRLS: The Phoenix will not be in the postseason this season.

BOYS: The Phoenix are in a battle with Goodrich for the top seed in their district. Pontiac if they get the second seed will have to see Lake Fenton which is a very tough matchup. The Phoenix need to avoid the third seed which would set them up to play on that Monday against Ortonville Brandon in the first round. If I'm Coach Dion Harris I'm really keeping a close eye on the Martians and Blue Devils, they stand to be Pontiac's toughest challengers.

Ferndale University

GIRLS: The Eagles are locked into the three seed which means they would likely see Ferndale in the first round with the winner seeing Center Line in the district semifinals. I like this matchup with Center Line if it were to occur for Ferndale University but seeing them win the district is not likely with Birmingham Detroit Country Day on the other side of the bracket. It will be tough sledding for Coach Brian Pickett and the Eagles.

BOYS: The Eagles are locked into the sixth seed but they might have a chance against Hazel Park or Detroit Old Redford in the first round and or district semifinals respectively. Ferndale University has played much better despite their record. This is a team that is much better than their record indicates.

Ferndale

GIRLS: The Eagles are more likely going to be the sixth seed in their district which would set up a matchup with Ferndale University in the first round and if they win that they could see Center Line in the district semifinals. Ferndale will need to improve a lot and quick if they want to pull off what would be a major upset in the first round. It's going to be a really tough draw for the Eagles.

BOYS: The Eagles are likely locked into the top seed in their district. Detroit Old Redford or Hazel Park could be their toughest competitors in this district but they would be on the other side of the bracket and they wouldn't see them until the district finals. If I'm Coach Juan Rickman this district gives the perfect opportunity to play players who haven't played much and rest your starters until the later rounds.

Harper Woods

GIRLS: The Pioneers are locked into the second seed which means they would play Warren Lincoln in the district semifinals. Harper Woods has a chance to get the top seed but it will be a tall ask for Coach LaToya Tate's team and Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy has been playing really good basketball. Harper Woods is in a good spot with the two seed right now.

BOYS: The Pioneers look locked into the four seed which means they would play Detroit East English Village Prep. If that's the case they would see Detroit Edwin Denby Tech in the district semifinals if they win in the district semifinals. It's going to be a tough matchup for Coach TaJuan Porter and Harper Woods if this plays out. It's going to be a tall order to catch Eastpointe who is the third seed at the moment.

Farmington

GIRLS: The Falcons are the five seed at the moment which means they would play Redford Thurston in the first round and if they win they would have to see Livonia Stevenson in the district semifinals. It's looking more and more likely this will be the matchup for Farmington which is going to be tough for sure.

BOYS: The Falcons are the four seed at the moment which means they would see Livonia Stevenson in the first round which is a scary matchup for Coach Byron Johnson. If they were to win that game they would see Redford Thurston which is a favorable matchup. If Farmington gets the three seed and sends North Farmington to the four seed they would avoid Livonia Stevenson and play Livonia Churchill in the first round and if they win then they would see Livonia Franklin in the district semifinals. The Falcons are in a very interesting spot and they would have a great chance to get to the district finals but they need to find that consistency that won them a district crown last season.

North Farmington

GIRLS: The Raiders are having a special season however they are in a battle with Seaholm for the three seed. If North Farmington gets the three seed they would see Bloomfield Hills in the district semifinals which is a tough matchup but if they are the four seed they would see Birmingham Marian in the first round with the possibility of seeing Groves in the district semifinals which will be tough. Either case will be tough for Coach Michael Allin and his program going forward.

BOYS: The Raiders are in a very interesting spot. If they get the three seed they would see Livonia Churchill in the first round then if they win they would see Livonia Franklin in the district semifinals but there is a chance they could switch with the Patriots. If North Farmington were to get past by Farmington it would get tougher and much tougher. Coach Pete Matayla's team would see Livonia Stevenson which is a very scary matchup and if they win they would see Redford Thurston. The question for Matayla is which path will the Raiders choose???

Oak Park

GIRLS: The Knights are locked into the sixth seed but there are concerns that they might not have enough players and have forfeited games recently. Oak Park when they get some players back could see Warren Fitzgerald or Southfield Arts and Tech in the first round which both teams will be a tall order for Coach Tyler Washington and her program. It's going to be tough for Oak Park in the postseason.

BOYS: The Knights are locked into the four seed at the moment which means they would play Detroit Mumford however Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit is sneaking up and could catch the Mustangs which would be very dangerous matchup for Coach Durrand Sheppard in the first round. If Oak Park makes it to the district semifinals they would see Warren Fitzgerald which is a very daunting task. It's going to be a challenge for the Knights in their district.

Berkley

GIRLS: The Bears are locked into the fifth seed which means they would see Southfield Arts and Tech or Warren Fitzgerald which both are not easy matchups for Coach Clay Shaver. If Berkley were to win over the four seed the likelihood of seeing Detroit Renaissance in the district semifinals is very real. It's going to be a tough road for Shaver and the Bears in this district.

BOYS: The Bears are locked into the sixth seed which means they will see Seaholm which is a tough matchup considering the length the Maples have. This looks to be the likely matchup at the moment and it's a daunting task to say the least.

Southfield Arts and Tech

GIRLS: The Warriors are in a battle with Detroit Mumford for the three seed. Southfield Arts and Tech is the four seed at the moment and would see Berkley which is a tough matchup in the first round but if they get the three seed they would play Oak Park in the first round and if they win that they would see Detroit Mumford in the district semifinals which is very favorable but if they stay the four seed and see the Bears and win that game then the likelihood of seeing Detroit Renaissance is very real. For Coach and Athletic Director Shaquita Coltrane the Warriors need the three seed if they don't get it then they could see the Phoenix in the district semifinals.

BOYS: The Warriors are locked into the four five matchup with Groves, it's a battle to see who is the home team at this point in the first round. The winner gets a tough matchup with Birmingham Brother Rice in the district semifinals. There is always a chance for Southfield Arts and Tech and Coach Josh Lyle, they could surprise some folks but it will be tough sledding for them.

Groves

GIRLS: The Falcons are locked into the top seed in their district which means they would see North Farmington, Seaholm, or Birmingham Marian in the district semifinals. Groves matches all three teams up pretty well. They would see Bloomfield Hills most likely in the district semifinals. Everything is set up for Coach Jessica Duebla and her program to have a deep postseason run.

BOYS: The Falcons are in that four five matchup with Southfield Arts and Tech in the first round which means they would see Birmingham Brother Rice in the district semifinals if they win over the Warriors. It's been a tough season for Coach Marc West and Groves. This will not be an easy path that is for sure.

Seaholm

GIRLS: The Maples have a tough draw for Coach Chris Manchester. If they get the four seed they would see Birmingham Marian in the first round and then Groves in the district semifinals. If they get the three seed it's Bloomfield Hills in the district semifinals. It's going to be a tough one to say the least for Seaholm.

BOYS: The Maples are locked into the three seed which means they would see Berkley in the first round with the winner getting Bloomfield Hills in the district semifinals. This is a better case for Coach Spenser Adams based on familiarity. I don't see right now how anyone will catch Seaholm for the third seed in the district. This is the best case right now for the Maples.

West Bloomfield

GIRLS: The Lakers are locked into the two seed which means they would play either Lakeland or Walled Lake Northern in the district semifinals with that winner seeing Orchard Lake St. Marys in the district finals. This is looking like this will be the likely case between these two teams.

BOYS: The Lakers really miss Curtis Britton which is why they are the four seed which means they would play Lakeland in the first round with the winner getting Walled Lake Northern in the district semifinals however Orchard Lake St. Marys is in play in this district. For Coach Arnette Jordan it is clear they need to stay away from the Eaglets at all times or until Britton comes back.

Bloomfield Hills

GIRLS: The Black Hawks are locked into the two seed which means they would see North Farmington or Seaholm in the district semifinals and then if they win that then it's likely Groves in the district finals. It's been a good season for Coach Renardo Brown and Bloomfield Hills but it will be a tough district to say the least.

BOYS: The Black Hawks are locked into the two seed which means they would see Seaholm in the district semifinals should they get past Berkley. Bloomfield Hills has a shot should they get by their district semifinal matchup against Birmingham Brother Rice which they matchup pretty well. Coach Brian Canfield has a great shot to win this district but they need everyone to be on the same page and clicking at the same time if they want to pull this off.

Oxford

GIRLS: When talking to former Lake Orion girls and boys basketball assistant Kevin Kopec who's daughter Sarah is on the team, I explained the postseason bracket with him. It is important that the Wildcats get the top seed in their district and wait out Lapeer and Holly which likely it will be Lapeer in the district semifinals however if they get the two seed and Davison passes Oxford that could pose some challenges with Grand Blanc despite the Bobcats are having a rough season but it's still Grand Blanc. It is key for Coach Trevor Marshall for the Wildcats to hold off the Cardinals because the two seed despite it's advantages is looking very tricky at the moment.

BOYS: The Wildcats are in a really tough spot. They are the four seed but Holly is on their heals for the four seed. Either way that winner is going to see Grand Blanc in the district semifinals which is going to be very tough. Oxford could get the three seed but that will be a tough task with Flint Kearsley likely securing the three seed. It's going to be tough sledding for Coach Joe Fedorchik and the Wildcats.

Avondale

GIRLS: The Yellow Jackets is the five seed which means they will play Waterford in the first round with the winner getting Clarkston in the district semifinals. Avondale is a very dangerous five seed and could give anyone problems in this district.

BOYS: The Yellow Jackets are locked as the top seed in the district. Avondale would likely get Lake Orion in the district semifinals which is very a dangerous matchup. The Dragons can defend and knows JaKobe Louris inside out. If the Yellow Jackets win that matchup then they would get Clarkston in the district finals. It's very interesting but it's a good time to be a Yellow Jacket right now.

Clarkston

GIRLS: The Wolves are locked into the top seed which means they would see Avondale or Waterford in the district semifinals and Lake Orion or Adams in the district finals. Clarkston has had a strong season and will look to continue their path into the postseason.

BOYS: The Wolves are locked into the second seed which means they would see Waterford Mott in the district semifinals. There is an outside chance they could see arch rival Lake Orion in the district semifinals should the Dragons pass the Corsairs. It's going to be very interesting to see what Coach Tim Waslik does with Clarkston.

Waterford Mott

GIRLS: Waterford is merged with Kettering and Mott together.

BOYS: The Corsairs are locked into the three seed which means they would see Clarkston in the district semifinals. This is a really bad matchup for Coach Jeff Jayson considering the Wolves are a systematic team and could give Jayson's guards nightmares. If Waterford Mott were the four seed and Lake Orion passes them which is possible they would play arch rival Waterford Kettering in the first round and then Avondale in the district semifinals. The Corsairs would present some big problems in the district semifinals with Tori Robinson and DaMari Stephens if this were to occur. So far it's looking like it's more likely Waterford Mott could see Clarkston in the district semifinals.

Waterford Kettering/Waterford

GIRLS: Waterford is the four seed at the moment which means they would see Avondale in the first round which is a really tough matchup. If they were to get past the Yellow Jackets then they would see Clarkston in the district semifinals which is a tough matchup. It's going to be tough sledding for Coach Andrew Wellman and Waterford.

BOYS: The Captains are locked into the five seed which means they would likely see Lake Orion in the first round but there is an outside chance they could see arch rival Waterford Mott in the first round with that winner seeing Avondale in the district semifinals. It's going to be real tough sledding for Coach Will Campbell and Waterford Kettering.

Lake Orion

GIRLS: The Dragons looked locked as the two seed at the moment but they need to win games in the worst way possible. The MPR for the two is getting murkier at the moment. Lake Orion has played a really tough schedule but they need to turn things around and quick or Adams could catch them. The Dragons and Highlanders are on a collision course to play each other but it's clear Lake Orion needs to win some games or risk losing the two seed.

BOYS: The Dragons are locked into the four seed which means they would play Waterford Kettering in the first round. This could be a perfect opportunity for Coach Jose Andredas to rest his starters and play some players that haven't played a lot and also prepare for Avondale in the district semifinals. Avondale and Lake Orion would be a really interesting district semifinals if this were to occur. There is an outside chance the Dragons could play Clarkston if they were to pass Waterford Mott for the three seed. Anything is possible for Lake Orion when it comes to the postseason.

Adams

GIRLS: The Highlanders are locked into the three seed at the moment which means they would see Lake Orion in the district semifinals which would be a really interesting rematch. Adams has had a strong year this season and there is a possibility that the Highlanders could catch the Dragons for the two seed considering Lake Orion's struggles this season. Either way it's inevitable that these two teams will meet again.

BOYS: The Highlanders are in a battle with Stoney Creek for the two seed which they currently hold at the moment. Adams would see Stoney Creek or Romeo in the district semifinals which Highlanders/Cougars round three seems very likely. The Highlanders also see Rochester again to close the season. It's going to be very interesting to see what Adams does but Coach Isiah Novak knows his program is in a very good spot.

Stoney Creek

GIRLS: The Cougars are in a battle for the top seed with Utica Eisenhower but they maybe better off with the two seed. It would set a very interesting matchup with Romeo in the district semifinals but if they get the top seed they could see Rochester in the district semifinals. Depth is a serious concern for Coach Columbus Williams. Stoney Creek is a motivated team, they want Utica Eisenhower in the worst way possible.

BOYS: The Cougars are in a battle with Adams for the two seed but if they get the three seed that shouldn't be a big deal with Romeo in the first round and then they see the Highlanders in the district semifinals. Coach Marko Tomich has done a great job with Stoney Creek and the district presents a different challenge.

Rochester

GIRLS: The Falcons are locked into the four seed which means they would play Utica in the first round and then have a really dangerous matchup with Utica Eisenhower in the district semifinals. Rochester could see Stoney Creek which is possible if the Cougars get the top seed and hold off Utica Eisenhower. It's going to be a tough road for Coach Andrew Toppie and the Falcons.

BOYS: The Falcons are locked as a top seed and will see Utica or Utica Eisenhower in the district semifinals which is tricky at best. Rochester could see Adams or Stoney Creek in the district finals which will be very tough especially with having an unbeaten season. Rochester is having a dream season but the postseason could be very dangerous for Coach Nick Evola and the Falcons.

Troy

GIRLS: The Colts 56-55 home loss to Southfield Arts and Tech really hurt. They are the second seed at the moment which sets them to play Warren Mott in the district semifinals. The top seed is still in play for Troy but they need to beat Troy Athens and pass them if not they will be locked into the two seed. It will be interesting to see what happens for Coach Laura Guzman and the Colts.

BOYS: The Colts hold the second seed at the moment but there is a chance they can catch Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood. Troy needs to win and have the Cranes lose at least two games. Troy would see Troy Athens if the current rankings hold in the district semifinals but if I'm Coach Gary Fralick, they need to try and get that top seed.

Troy Athens

GIRLS: The Red Hawks hold control of the Blue and the top seed in the district at the moment. Troy Athens controls it's destiny right now. It's a battle with Troy for the top two seeds. It's a guarantee at the moment that the Red Hawks will get either the top or the second seed.

BOYS: The Red Hawks have really struggled but they are still in the conversation for the top seed in their district with Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood holding the top seed at the moment. Bottom line for Troy Athens is if they want to avoid Troy in the district semifinals they need to get the top seed which they are more than capable of doing but they need to win.

Royal Oak

GIRLS: The Ravens despite their struggles have a chance to get the three seed and not need to play on Monday but they need to win. Royal Oak can pass Warren Mott and Warren Cousino for the three seed.  There is a big difference from playing Wednesday against the two seed to having to play on that Monday and playing the top seed in the district semifinals.

BOYS: The Ravens remain in a battle for the two seed with Troy and Troy Athens. There is a chance for Coach Aaron Smith to catch Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood for the top seed but Royal Oak needs to likely win out if they want to get the top seed in their district.
