10. Seaholm at 1. Groves: These are two rivals that know each other quite well. The Maples took both meetings from the Falcons last season. Groves wants revenge and feels they have the team to do it. Saline at 3. Lake Orion: This is a rematch of a classic 35-28 Lake Orion win at Saline last season. These two teams know each other quite well. Both teams have quarterbacks, running backs, and proven wide receivers. The defenses will be tested. The Hornets are technically coming in unbeaten but had to forfeit three games because of an ineligible player. This should be a fun matchup at Dragon Stadium.

4. Adams at New Baltimore Anchor Bay: The Highlanders and the Tars are set for a very interesting matchup in New Baltimore. Adams is in a great spot to eliminate New Baltimore Anchor Bay from the postseason. It's going to be a tall order for the Tars against the veer of the Highlanders.

SANDY DUNES: ADAMS 28, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 7.

TIM: ADAMS 42, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 7.

COTTER: ADAMS 17, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 14.

KEITH: ADAMS 31, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 28.

SCOTT: ADAMS 35, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 21.

Utica Eisenhower at 5. Clarkston: This is a rematch of a 36-19 Eagles win at Swinehart last season. Utica Eisenhower has not lost a beat sharing the Macomb Area Red with Macomb Dakota. Clarkston has been solid all season but getting a big win will be huge for the Wolves heading into the postseason.

The Panthers have been up and down but earned a 21-19 win over Romeo last week. This should be a highly entertaining game in Macomb County.

SANDY DUNES: WEST BLOOMFIELD 49, ROSEVILLE 35.

TIM: WEST BLOOMFIELD 49, ROSEVILLE 14.

COTTER: WEST BLOOMFIELD 31, ROSEVILLE 28.

KEITH: WEST BLOOMFIELD 24, ROSEVILLE 23.

SCOTT: WEST BLOOMFIELD 28, ROSEVILLE 26.

Detroit East English Village Prep at 7. Harper Woods: These are two teams that are battling for postseason dreams. The Pioneers are locked into the postseason in Division Four but would like to pass Madison Heights Lamphere to get home field. Detroit East English Village Prep is battling to save their season and need a must win to get into the postseason. This should be a very interesting matchup on 20225 Beaconsfield Street.

SANDY DUNES: HARPER WOODS 42, DETROIT EAST ENGLISH VILLAGE PREP 0.

TIM: HARPER WOODS 56, DETROIT EAST ENGLISH VILLAGE PREP 7.

Ann Arbor Huron at 8. Stoney Creek: The Cougars earned a hard fought 49-12 win over Avondale last week securing their berth to the postseason. Ann Arbor Huron has struggled all season and will look to spoil Stoney Creek's momentum. This should be a very interesting matchup between these two teams.

SANDY DUNES: STONEY CREEK 35, ANN ARBOR HURON 0.

TIM: STONEY CREEK 49, ANN ARBOR HURON 0.

COTTER: STONEY CREEK 28, ANN ARBOR HURON 20.

Troy at 9. North Farmington: This is a huge game for big reasons. It's the Raiders homecoming and they want to win the Blue outright. The Colts need to win this game if they want to make the postseason. There is a ton at stake in this game.

SANDY DUNES: NORTH FARMINGTON 28, TROY 24.

TIM: NORTH FARMINGTON 28, TROY 21.

COTTER: NORTH FARMINGTON 28, TROY 22.

KEITH: NORTH FARMINGTON 23, TROY 20.

SCOTT: TROY 33, NORTH FARMINGTON 23.

Carleton Airport at Avondale: This is a huge game for both teams. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a tough 49-12 loss to Stoney Creek and are trying to improve their postseason positioning in Division Three. Carleton Airport is fighting to get into the postseason in Division Four. The Jets are very young with a new coach this season. If they win this game, this could help their cause to get into the postseason and force Avondale to go on the road for the postseason.

SANDY DUNES: AVONDALE 35, CARLETON AIRPORT 7.

TIM: AVONDALE 28, CARLETON AIRPORT 7.

COTTER: AVONDALE 24, CARLETON AIRPORT 13.

KEITH: AVONDALE 21, CARLETON AIRPORT 14.

SCOTT: AVONDALE 34, CARLETON AIRPORT 24.

Farmington at Dearborn Heights Crestwood: These are two 5-3 teams that are fighting to get into the postseason. The Falcons are in a better place than Dearborn Heights Crestwood even though both teams need to win this game. This should be a fun matchup in Dearborn.

SANDY DUNES: FARMINGTON 21, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 14.

TIM: FARMINGTON 42, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 14.

COTTER: FARMINGTON 42, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 7.

KEITH: FARMINGTON 14, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 13.

SCOTT: FARMINGTON 25, DEARBORN HEIGHTS CRESTWOOD 23.

Utica Ford II at Ferndale: This is a huge game for the Eagles if they want to get into the postseason. Ferndale fell victim of three teams that got big wins last week. This is their opportunity against the Falcons who have struggled all season. This is a golden opportunity for Ferndale as mentioned.

SANDY DUNES: FERNDALE 20, UTICA FORD II 17.

TIM: FERNDALE 21, UTICA FORD II 14.

COTTER: FERNDALE 20, UTICA FORD II 14.

KEITH: UTICA FORD II 17, FERNDALE 14.

SCOTT: FERNDALE 36, UTICA FORD II 31.

Rochester at Walled Lake Northern: The Falcons have had a ton of struggles this season but they have a long shot of making the postseason if they can win over Walled Lake Northern and get a ton of help. The Knights have really struggled this season. Rochester has been up and down. They would like to end their season on a good note.

SANDY DUNES: ROCHESTER 35, WALLED LAKE NORTHERN 0.

TIM: ROCHESTER 63, WALLED LAKE NORTHERN 0.

COTTER: ROCHESTER 49, WALLED LAKE NORTHERN 6.

KEITH: WALLED LAKE NORTHERN 31, ROCHESTER 27.

SCOTT: ROCHESTER 30, WALLED LAKE NORTHERN 22.

Oak Park at Bloomfield Hills: This is the first meeting since 2022 when the Blackhawks beat the Knights 25-21. Both teams have really struggled this season. This could be a jump start for both teams heading into the offseason.

SANDY DUNES: OAK PARK 28, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 7.

TIM: OAK PARK 35, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 7.

COTTER: OAK PARK 26, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 14.

KEITH: BLOOMFIELD HILLS 20, OAK PARK 17.

SCOTT: OAK PARK 40, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 25.

Southfield Arts and Tech at Detroit Renaissance: This is a rematch of a 41-14 Warriors win at Southfield last season but both teams are at a different place this season. Southfield Arts and Tech has struggled mightily this season. Detroit Renaissance has won four of their last five games. This has the makings of a really interesting game in Detroit.

SANDY DUNES: DETROIT RENAISSANCE 35, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 14.

TIM: DETROIT RENAISSANCE 35, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 21.

COTTER: DETROIT RENAISSANCE 28, SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 12.

KEITH: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 22, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 21.

SCOTT: SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH 33, DETROIT RENAISSANCE 22.

Troy Athens at Fraser: This is a rematch of a 14-6 Fraser win over Troy Athens last season which cost the Red Hawks a trip to the postseason. The Ramblers snapped a five game losing streak with a 5-0 win over Warren Woods Tower last week. Coach Tom Cook called this senior class the best he's ever had to C&G Sports after a 21-14 loss to Troy last week. The Red Hawks have some questions heading into the offseason.

SANDY DUNES: FRASER 17, TROY ATHENS 14.

TIM: TROY ATHENS 21, FRASER 7.

COTTER: TROY ATHENS 14, FRASER 13.

KEITH: TROY ATHENS 13, FRASER 10.

SCOTT: TROY ATHENS 27, FRASER 22.

Pontiac at Detroit Lincoln King Academy: These are two teams that are no strangers to one another. The Phoenix won 44-42 in overtime last season but things are different now. Detroit Lincoln King Academy is unbeaten which includes a win over Royal Oak. The Eagles have not allowed a point in six weeks outscoring the competition 264-0 in that span. It could be a long night for Pontiac.

SANDY DUNES: DETROIT LINCOLN KING ACADEMY 48, PONTIAC 14.

TIM: DETROIT LINCOLN KING ACADEMY 63, PONTIAC 0.

COTTER: DETROIT LINCOLN KING ACADEMY 48, PONTIAC 0.

KEITH: PONTIAC 13, DETROIT LINCOLN KING ACADEMY 10.

SCOTT: PONTIAC 23, DETROIT LINCOLN KING ACADEMY 20.

Madison Heights Lamphere at Berkley: There are some interesting storylines heading into this matchup. It's Madison Heights Lamphere's coach Roy Ostrowski's return to Berkley. Ostrowski was an assisant under Coach Chris Sikora during the Bears postseason runs. Berkley has struggled but is in a much better place under Coach Casey Humes. This should be a really interesting matchup.

SANDY DUNES: MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 28, BERKLEY 7.

TIM: MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 42, BERKLEY 7.

COTTER: MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 35, BERKLEY 14.

KEITH: BERKLEY 27, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 20.

SCOTT: MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 22, BERKLEY 21.

Royal Oak at Clawson: This is setting up to be a really interesting matchup of two teams that are heading in different directions. The Ravens are out of the postseason but for Clawson it's a different story. The Trojans are sitting at 31st in Division Six and have won four straight. This is a really difficult matchup for Royal Oak.

SANDY DUNES: CLAWSON 27, ROYAL OAK 7.

TIM: CLAWSON 35, ROYAL OAK 0.

COTTER: CLAWSON 28, ROYAL OAK 7.

KEITH: ROYAL OAK 20, CLAWSON 16.

SCOTT: ROYAL OAK 32, CLAWSON 23.

2. Clarkston- Wolves have a ton of proven experience coming back.

3. West Bloomfield- Losing Drew Wilson hurts the Lakers but they are still going to be very good.

4. North Farmington- What to expect from the Raiders is the question.

5. Ferndale- Eagles need to get by Warren Lincoln if they want to realize their goals.

6. Lake Orion- The Dragons might have their the deepest team since 2018-2019.

8. Avondale- Yellow Jackets have the guards, interior is a question mark.

Boys Soccer Regional Preview

Written Sunday October 20th at 10:30 AM

Boys Soccer Regionals

Region Two @ Novi

OXFORD vs WEST BLOOMFIELD

Novi Detroit Catholic Central vs Okemos

This has a chance to be a interesting Regional. Three of the four teams went through emotional district finals that included Penalty Kicks. Catholic League power Detroit Catholic Central went through rival and state ranked Northville while OAA Red power Oxford went through rival Lake Orion. Capital Area Conference's Okemos also went to penalty kicks against Hartland while OAA White's West Bloomfield got out of a district that included Bloomfield Hills and the Walled Lake schools.

Two teams stand out in this Regional. Oxford and Detroit Catholic Central. Both of whom have played very tough schedules and have been state ranked throughout the year. Oxford only has one loss which was to OAA Red Power Troy while Detroit Catholic Central has went through a very tough schedule. One thing to note, the two OAA Red opponents both teams have in common, Troy Athens and Seaholm. Oxford beat Troy Athens and tied Seaholm while Catholic Central lost to both OAA powers. Could that play a role when those two teams meet in the Regional Finals.

Favorite: Oxford (have to go with the Wildcats experience) though as we saw with the two district games. Oxford needs to clean some things up if they want to make a deep run.

Region Four @ Berkley

TROY vs ADAMS

Romeo vs St. Clair Shores Lakeview

This will also be a interesting Regional. Two OAA Red powers and two MAC teams. Also noting that this Regional will be held at Hurley Field. The same field where Berkley plays. Could that favor the the OAA that comes out of that matchup??? Both Adams and Troy are stronger than Romeo and Lakeview but it will be interesting who comes out of the Troy/Adams game. Troy won the OAA Red but Adams was Troy's only loss with the Highlanders going into Troy and beating them 1-0. Troy should be motivated and went through a brutal district beating OAA Red foes Seaholm and Berkley (in the district final) but Adams just went through MAC Red power and champion Utica Eisenhower and beat them 4-0 in the district final. Romeo however, is battled tested playing in the MAC Red and playing rivals Utica Eisenhower and Macomb Dakota. Romeo also tied Adams earlier this year at 1 which should make it interesting, should both teams meet in the Regional Final. Lakeview competes in the MAC Blue but did defeat MAC White Champ Grosse Pointe South to win the district.

Favorite: Troy (The Troy/Adams winner will most likely play Romeo in the Regional Championship.) Troy is motivated, they wanted a chance to get back at Adams for the regular season loss earlier in the year.

Bloomfield Hills wins OAA's first State Crown in 2024-2025.

Written Sunday October 20th at 9:38 AM

The Blackhawks continued their dominance on the tennis court.

Bloomfield Hills won their third straight Division One State tennis title on Saturday afternoon at Byron Center with 35 points. Troy was second with 27 points, Stoney Creek was tied for fifth with 12 points, Troy Athens was tied for seventh with 10 points, Rochester and Adams were tied for 12th with six points, and Clarkston was 17th was one points.

The Blackhawks were led by the Shaya brothers (Pierce and Conner) won their respective individual titles. Zev Spiegel also won a singles division as well. Bloomfield Hills won two of the three doubles flights as well.

Pierce never lost a set in singles in his career going 81-0. He will head to Ann Arbor next fall. Connor had a more challenging path but managed to get three titles.

Bloomfield Hills also has depth which they should be in the mix next season.

We'll see what happens heading into next season.

Postseason Dreams.

Written Saturday October 19th at 9:55 AM

Updated Wednesday October 23rd at 7:18 PM

Here are the postseason dreams and matchups for each team that is locked or on the bubble after week eight.

Harper Woods: 59- 5-3, 5th in Division Four. LOCKED: The Pioneers strength of schedule has helped improve their stock. They sit in a really good spot to host multiple postseason games despite the 5-3 record. If they lose to Detroit East English Village Prep in week nine, that could hurt them in that quest. They trail Madison Heights Lamphere (63.2) which is significant at the moment because they are a team they could see in the district finals. Harper Woods is a lock for the postseason but the matchup in the first round is yet to be determined. According to Snooze should they win they could see Redford Union first which they won 43-21 in week one which is a good matchup for them despite being on the road. The Pioneers could see Detroit Southeastern should they make it. Harper Woods is in a good spot whether they are at home or have to go on the road.

Avondale: 53.3- 5-3, 14th in Division Three. LOCKED: The Yellow Jackets fell 34-12 to Stoney Creek on Friday night but their wins have got them locked into the postseason. They play Carleton Airport in week nine. Avondale has a ton of postseason options. They could be sent east to Port Huron which is an option. The worst case is if they have to go to Fenton in the first round and then play Walled Lake Western in the district finals. The best case for Avondale which Snooze has is they host two playoff games which includes Warren Fitzgerald and then the winner of Garden City and Redford Thurston before having to see Walled Lake Western in the regional finals. The Yellow Jackets have a ton of options where to go come in the postseason.

Ferndale: 51.5- 5-3, 33rd in Division Two. MUST WIN: The Eagles did their job and won 27-20 over Southfield Arts and Tech on Friday night but they took a hit in the rankings after Midland Dow's 23-14 win over Lapeer, Temperance Bedford's 33-0 win over Monroe, and Lincoln Park's 19-7 win over Brownstown Woodhaven. The Eagles need to win on their senior night over Utica Ford II to get into the postseason. If they do get in it's most likely they will see Groves according to Snooze. If the Eagles lose then their postseason dreams are gone.

Farmington: 53.5- 5-3, 27th in Division Two. LOCKED: The Falcons knew it was going to be a tall task against Lake Orion falling 27-6 on Friday night. This is where they need to win in Dearborn against a 5-3 and solid Dearborn Heights Crestwood team. They should be a lock regardless but safe to be sorry is to win. If they win they could possibly host a postseason game which they do according to Snooze with Livonia Franklin. It's a big week for Farmington especially with multiple teams 49 or below that is trying to get into the field.

North Farmington: 56.6- 5-3, 24th in Division Two. LOCKED: The Raiders had a tough 28-0 loss to Adams on Friday night but they fully remain in the postseason field despite the loss. North Farmington has an opportunity to end Troy's postseason dreams in week nine with a win at Ron Holland Field on their homecoming. The Raiders postseason matchups looks like they could see arch rival Farmington in the first round or later. They could see South Lyon East or Livonia Franklin as well. I would be surprised if they see Orchard Lake St. Marys, Groves, or Seaholm first but that's what North Farmington is dealt with.

Seaholm: 61.3- 6-2, 13th in Division Two. LOCKED: The Maples had a really tough 34-3 loss to West Bloomfield on Friday night which put them in position to maybe start on the road in the postseason. They could see Groves again which they see in week nine which looks to be the most likely scenario although Warren Mott (according to Snooze), North Farmington, and Farmington are possible options as well but they will have to see Groves at some point in the postseason.

Groves: 73.6- 8-0, 4th in Division Two. LOCKED: The Falcons are locked into the postseason. They have Seaholm this week. The concern for Groves is they haven't been tested and if they get Orchard Lake St. Marys in the first round that could be very dangerous and that could happen (5-3, 53.) There are other options like Warren Cousino (likely opponent according to Snooze,) Seaholm, Farmington, Livonia Franklin, Ferndale, South Lyon East, or North Farmington which is possible first round postseason opponents but if they get the Eaglets first, that could be big time trouble for the Falcons.

Rochester: 42.5- 3-5, 39th in Division One. MUST WIN AND NEED HELP: The Falcons are in a very interesting spot when it comes to the postseason. Rochester needs to win against Walled Lake Northern and get help from Southfield Arts and Tech, Fraser, and Berkley, all those teams need to win in week nine. It's a long shot but anything is possible.

Troy: 45.8- 4-4, 32nd in Division One. MUST WIN: The Colts saved their season with a 21-14 win over Troy Athens on Friday night but they need to win at Ron Holland Field against North Farmington. They will need Troy Athens to beat Fraser which would help. If Troy loses to the Raiders they are eliminated. This is a must win game for Troy, you win, your in, if not they are done.

Stoney Creek: 53.2- 4-4, 25th in Division One. LOCKED: The Cougars did their job and won 49-12 over Avondale on Friday night. Stoney Creek is looking at several situations in the postseason, they could go to Lake Orion, Oxford, Adams, or the worse case Swinehart (Utica Eisenhower.) They have Ann Arbor Huron in week nine. Coach Rick Powell has done a wonderful job taking the Cougars into the postseason.

West Bloomfield: 57.1- 4-4, 21st in Division One. LOCKED: The Lakers did what they needed to do against Seaholm winning 34-3 on Friday night. West Bloomfield is still need to be in postseason mode despite being locked into the postseason. They have Roseville in week nine and a matchup with Novi Detroit Catholic Central is possible, they could go to Detroit Cass Tech (which Snooze has), or they could go north which is also possible. There are options with West Bloomfield when it comes to the postseason.

Clarkston: 60.7- 5-3, 15th in Division One. LOCKED: The Wolves had no issue winning 41-0 over Bloomfield Hills on Friday night. Clarkston has Utica Eisenhower in week nine. The Wolves have multiple options, going north to Grand Blanc or Davison seems possible which I believe Clarkston matches up extremely well along with going toward West Bloomfield is another option but they could see Novi Detroit Catholic Central if they head south, they could go east and see rivals Oxford and Lake Orion thus sending Adams and Stoney Creek east. Overall there are a ton of options for Clarkston when it comes to the postseason.

Adams: 69.8- 6-2, 9th in Division One. LOCKED: The Highlanders have been locked in the postseason field after winning 28-0 over North Farmington on Friday night. Adams has New Baltimore Anchor Bay in week nine which is a difficult matchup. Adams could see Lake Orion, Oxford, Stoney Creek, or Clarkston in the first round. They could have Utica Eisenhower in the district which is the worse case for them but they could avoid Utica Eisenhower if the Eagles go east and see their fellow Macomb Area Conference Red rivals. Overall the Highlanders have options, they could also host two games which would be huge for them.

Oxford: 68.8- 6-2, 10th in Division One. LOCKED: The Wildcats are locked into the postseason field despite winning 49-12 over Oak Park on Friday night. The strongest non conference win is Harper Woods which is why Oxford is where they are at. They have a big one with Macomb Dakota in week nine which is a difficult matchup. The Wildcats could go north to Genesee and Lapeer counties or they could go south and see arch rivals Lake Orion, Adams, and maybe Clarkston. Oxford wins they could get a home postseason game but a lot has to go right for things to work out which are out of their control.

Lake Orion: 72.1- 6-2, 8th in Division One. LOCKED: The Dragons had no issue winning 27-6 over Farmington on Friday night. Northville is the big reason (5-3, 60) why Lake Orion is up on Oxford despite falling to the Wildcats. They have Saline in week nine which is a difficult matchup. The Dragons could go east and see Adams thats an option. They could see Stoney Creek according to Snooze. The worse case for Lake Orion is Utica Eisenhower in their district and going on the road which could happen if they lose to Saline. The Dragons have a ton of options right now.

WIN OF THE WEEK: West Bloomfield: The Lakers clinched a postseason spot in a stunning 34-3 blowout of Seaholm in the Maple Forest on Friday night. West Bloomfield dominated from start to finish, I was really impressed with their defense holding Seaholm to three points. The Lakers have Roseville looming next week.

WHAT IN THE BLUE WORLD: Troy: The Colts needed to survive to save their season winning 21-14 over Troy Athens on Friday night. Troy trailed 14-7 at the half but needed a strong second half to keep their postseason dreams alive. They have North Farmington looming next week.

TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors played one of their better games of the season but fell 27-20 to Ferndale on Friday afternoon. Southfield Arts and Tech has Detroit Renaissance looming next week.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Royal Oak: The Ravens had no chance against Groves falling 56-0 on Friday night. The Falcons dominated the Ravens taking a 42-0 halftime lead and never looking back. Royal Oak has Clawson looming next week.
