Novi has their new Varsity Football Coach.

Written Tuesday June 16th at 8:34 PM

Novi has their new varsity football coach.

The Wildcats according to Hometown Life's Brandon Folsom promoted Logan Pawloski to be their new head coach.

Pawloski takes over for Coach Jim Sparks who stepped down last month.

Pawloski was an assistant for Sparks for five years and is a Traverse City West alumnus. He takes over a program that will go through a transition period during the summer. Novi will be in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association Black Division this season and head to the OAA next season.

The Wildcats went 25-24 under Sparks in his five years with four postseason appearances at Novi but injuries derailed their season and went 3-6 however they did beat archrival Northville last season.

It will be very interesting to see how Pawloski handles this transition with a very tough schedule ahead starting with a trip to Thirlby Field when the Wildcats play Traverse City Central in week one.

Program strength is another concern Novi faces heading into this season.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Baseball State Final Preview.

Written Friday June 12th at 9:55 PM

ADAMS vs Novi Detroit Catholic Central- Saturday 5 PM at Michigan State

This is shaping up to be a very interesting final day of the 2025-2026 season with Adams going up against Novi Detroit Catholic Central in the Division One State Finals on Saturday afternoon at Michigan State. The Highlanders won 10-4 over Brownstown Woodhaven on Friday afternoon is in their first State Final since 1996 while the Shamrocks won 6-1 over Mattawan on Friday afternoon. It should be a very interesting matchup to say the least between Adams and Novi Detroit Catholic Central.

Grand Blanc and Davison coming into the OAA.

Written Friday June 12th at 1:50 PM

Updated Sunday June 14th at 1:28 PM

The OAA is coming to Mid-Michigan.

Stations like WNEM TV-5, WJRT ABC-12, and WEYI NBC-25 are going to get a taste to what the OAA is all about.

Novi, Northville, and Clawson decided to join the league in March and is coming in for the 2027-2028 school year.

The site visits are done and the principals voted on it.

The OAA has accepted Davison and Grand Blanc to join their ranks. Like Novi, Northville, and Clawson they will be coming into the league for the 2027-2028 school year.

Hometown Life's Brandon Folsom along with multiple sources have confirmed the news. WJRT ABC-12 confirmed that Davison Athletic Director Dave Beamer and Grand Blanc Athletic Director Jerrod Dohm received official acceptance letters to join the league on Friday afternoon.

Davison and Grand Blanc are in Genesee County and are archrivals. They are two of the biggest schools in Mid-Michigan. Grand Blanc has 2,350 students while Davison has 1,701 students.

Beamer said to WNEM TV-5 that the move for Davison to leave the Saginaw Valley League for the OAA was not made lightly. "This is a strategic move that reflects our commitment to excellence and provides tremendous opportunities for our students, student-athletes, and community" he said.

Grand Blanc Community Schools sent out a letter to parents explaining the move to the OAA which was signed by Dohm, Principal Mike Fray, and Superintendent Trevor Alward.

"Dear Grand Blanc Schools Community, We've recently been informed by the board of directors of the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) that Grand Blanc High School's application for membership for the 2027-2028 school year has been accepted. GBHS Athletics will officially make the transition to the new conference for the 2027-2028 school year. GBHS will continue in the Saginaw Valley League (SVL) for the 2026-2027 school year and very much appreciates their continued support and partnership. Our athletes and coaches have greatly enjoyed working with the athletes, coaches, Athletic Directors, and organizers of the SVL and look forward to more exciting matchups over the coming school year. The OAA will work with our Athletic Department over the next year to ensure a smooth transition. The OAA provides leadership opportunities through the collaboration of students, Athletic Directors, and Principals. We believe this move will have a far impact beyond the athletic fields and courts with wonderful new opportunities for growth for our students and staff from athletic competitions to the classroom. Thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes and athletic programs. Go Bobcats!" the letter said.

Grand Blanc's Athletic Page on X confirmed that they were leaving the Saginaw Valley League as well. "In the fall of 2027, the Bobcats are moving out" with the Bobcats and OAA logo on the right side with Grand Blanc High School X Oakland Activities Association on the bottom right side which is also pinned on their X page.

The Cardinals and Bobcats were members of the Saginaw Valley League which is the oldest league in the State that was formed in 1904. Davison and Grand Blanc were original members of the Big Nine Conference which began its league in 1960. The Cardinals got incorporated into the Saginaw Valley League when the Big Nine Conference dissolved in 2012. The Bobcats left the Big Nine Conference in 2009 for the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. Grand Blanc was kicked out of the league in 2017 which opened the door for the Bobcats to join the Saginaw Valley League. Both schools have applied to the OAA multiple times but were turned down but this time it was different.

Grand Blanc has been known for multiple sports particularly in football, cheerleading, soccer, track and field, and boys basketball.

Davison is known for football, wrestling, and has started to emerge as a girls basketball power. What makes the Cardinals unique is that they have DTV (Davison Television) which is a student produced television station that also covers Davison home games along with news stories around the school community. It's very similar to Lake Orion with WDBC-Dragon Broadcasting which does Lake Orion games and covers everything surrounding the Dragons within the school community.

Davison and Grand Blanc have gone up against OAA schools in the past. The Cardinals and Bobcats have had rivalries with Oxford, Clarkston, and Lake Orion but both schools have played West Bloomfield, Adams, among others who are in the league in different sports.

The biggest impact the two schools will bring is football.

Davison and Grand Blanc have been the top two schools in the Saginaw Valley League (as a whole and in the Red which is technically the South), but the postseason has been where they have run into trouble. Davison and Grand Blanc usually get sent south to play an OAA school in the districts but there have been times the Cardinals and Bobcats have avoided playing against the OAA in the postseason. When Davison won the Division One State crown in 2019, they didn't see an OAA school. The Cardinals were in the Division One State Finals the following season (2020) falling to Coach Ron Bellamy and West Bloomfield 41-0 (West Bloomfield is an OAA school.) Davison is 2-10 against the OAA since 2010. The Cardinals have done an excellent job under former Lapeer East Coach Jacob Weingartz in building their program into a powerhouse they are today. Grand Blanc has fared a bit better against the OAA in the past but has run into Clarkston who has knocked them out of the postseason the last two years including when they were unbeaten falling 44-22 in the district finals last season. The Bobcats have been very consistent and have been building their program under Coach Kaleb Forr. Davison and Grand Blanc have had very strong youth levels, very competitive middle schools, and their freshman and junior varsity programs which has kept both schools very competitive. What also helps both schools is the OAA has multiple schools that are in Division One and other schools that are in the league are in Division's Two and Three are powerhouse programs. The Saginaw Valley League have only Davison and Grand Blanc as their only schools in Division One while schools like Lapeer, Midland, Midland Dow, Saginaw, Flint Carman Ainsworth, Saginaw Heritage, Bay City Western, Bay City Central, and Mount Pleasant are in Division Two or lower.

There are other sports beside football that the Cardinals and Bobcats bring that are going to be very impactful to the league.

Grand Blanc is a boys basketball State powerhouse. They have had battles with Clarkston and Ferndale in the past and have played some of the top-notch programs in the State under Coach Doreace Martin. The Bobcats were upset 45-43 by Oxford in the district semifinals last season. Grand Blanc is a cheerleading power which would fit in with the likes of Lake Orion, Rochester, Adams, Stoney Creek, and Troy Athens. The Bobcats have powerhouse programs in soccer, baseball, track and field, and softball as well.

Davison has been a boys basketball power, but they had a really tough start despite winning ten games, they fell 56-52 to Oxford in the district finals last season. The Cardinals will have a new coach in Tyler Thompson taking over for Coach Mike Williams this offseason. Thompson played at Davison and has coached at Clio. It's going to be very interesting to see how Thompson does handling two leagues in two years. Davison is a wrestling powerhouse which fits in with the likes of Clarkston and Oxford as State powers. The Cardinals have suddenly started to become a power in girls basketball and volleyball. Davison won districts in both sports last season.

There is an academic component with both schools. Grand Blanc is one of the top schools academically along with Davison. Both are top notch schools like the rest of the league when it comes to academics. It will be interesting to see how both schools interact when it comes to DECA, Leadership, Band, Theater, among other events.

It will be very interesting to see how the league is with 28 schools and 27 football schools, but we'll see how it goes.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

The Colts have a chance to win the Division One State Crown on Friday as they play Rockford at Michigan State. The Rams are coming off a 5-2 win over Hartland on Tuesday night and is in their first ever State Final. This should be a very interesting matchup in East Lansing.

Softball

Northville vs Walled Lake Northern- Thursday 12:30 at Michigan State

The Mustangs are back in East Lansing after going through Saline and Livonia Stevenson. Northville will have a tough matchup with Walled Lake Northern who has been very impressive this postseason. Whoever wins this game will play Macomb Dakota or the upset minded Grand Haven who has wins over Hudsonville and Traverse City Central, both top ranked teams in the State.

Harper Woods has their new Boys Basketball Coach.

Written Wednesday June 9th at 6:33 PM

Harper Woods has their new boys basketball coach.

The Pioneers named Stepfon Moore as their boys basketball coach. Moore takes over for Coach TaJuan Porter who stepped down at the end of the season.

Sean Cotter and The D-Zone confirmed the news.

Moore was an assistant at Warren Lincoln under Coach Wydell Henry in which the Abes won back to back Division Two State crowns in 2024 and 2025.

Harper Woods went 12-10 and clinched a share of the Gold with Southfield Arts and Tech and Oak Park. The Pioneers beat Detroit East English Village Prep 54-38 in the first round but fell 51-35 to Detroit Edwin Denby Tech in the district semifinals last season.

Harper Woods will be a very interesting program to watch and program strength will be worth watching as well. The Pioneers will be in the Blue with Troy, Troy Athens, Pontiac, Seaholm and Royal Oak. They are in Division One for districts with Detroit Cass Tech, Detroit Martin Luther King, Hamtramck, Grosse Pointe North, and Grosse Pointe South.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

STONEY CREEK

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Adams, 2. Stoney Creek, 3. Rochester, 4. Troy, 5. Avondale, 6. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

District 30 @ Troy Athens

TROY ATHENS

Sterling Heights Stevenson

Utica

Utica Ford II

Sterling Heights

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Troy Athens, 2. Utica Ford II, 3. Utica, 4. Sterling Heights Stevenson, 5. Sterling Heights

EARLY THOUGHTS: Troy Athens is an honorary member of the MAC. Utica Ford II and Utica will be tough matchups but the Red Hawks should be fine going forward.

District 20 @ Canton

Northville

Canton

Plymouth

Salem

Livonia Churchill

Westland John Glenn

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Northville, 2. Livonia Churchill, 3. Canton, 4. Plymouth, 5. Salem, 6. Westland John Glenn

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY

Hazel Park

Detroit Central

Detroit Pershing

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Ferndale University, 2. Ferndale, 3. Hazel Park, 4. Detroit Central, 5. Detroit Pershing

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district with the Oakland County schools being favored and could be the teams that make the most noise in this district.

District 62 @ Macomb Lutheran North

PONTIAC

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

Macomb Lutheran North

Armada

Madison Heights Lamphere

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 2. Macomb Lutheran North, 3. Armada, 4. Madison Heights Lamphere, 5. Pontiac

Warren Michigan Collegiate

Madison Heights Madison

Madison Heights Bishop Foley

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Madison Heights Bishop Foley, 2. Rochester Lutheran Northwest, 3. Clawson, 4. Warren Michigan Collegiate, 5. Madison Heights Madison

EARLY THOUGHTS: This district is competitive. I think that three teams have a shot to win this district in Madison Heights Bishop Foley, Clawson, and Rochester Lutheran Northwest. It should be interesting to say the least.

District 4 @ Flint Kearsley

Grand Blanc

Davison

Flint Kearsley

Flint Carman Ainsworth

Flushing

Swartz Creek

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Davison, 2. Flushing, 3. Grand Blanc, 4. Swartz Creek, 5. Flint Kearsley, 6. Flint Carman Ainsworth.

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district. Davison and Flushing should battle for the district crown. Grand Blanc and Swartz Creek are wildcards. The Cardinals won the district last season but the Raiders should be a team to watch.

Girls Basketball Districts-2027

Written Monday June 8th at 3:00 PM

Here are the girls basketball districts for 2027. This will be updated often.

District 20 @ Detroit Martin Luther King

HARPER WOODS

Detroit Martin Luther King

Detroit Cass Tech

Hamtramck

Grosse Pointe North

Grosse Pointe South

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Detroit Cass Tech, 2. Grosse Pointe South, 3. Grosse Pointe North, 4. Detroit Martin Luther King, 5. Harper Woods, 6. Hamtramck.

TOP PLAYER: Natasha Shell- Detroit Cass Tech

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Dallas Harris- Detroit Cass Tech

WILDCARD: Ciara Pongratz- Grosse Pointe South

FAVORITE: Detroit Cass Tech

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Grosse Pointe South

MOST DANGEROUS: Grosse Pointe North

FIRST THOUGHTS: I would have never thought that I would write about my good friend Coach AntJuan Simpkins and Detroit Cass Tech, but he has done a great job with the Technicians, and they are one of the favorites in this district. Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South should be in the conversation. Detroit Martin Luther King has the history and reputation. This will be a very difficult district for Coach LaToya Tate and Harper Woods going from Division Two to Division One with the majority of these schools are much tougher and more battle tested. This should be a very interesting district to say the least.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: It's clear in this district that Detroit Cass Tech has the top seed because of their experience. I wasn't so sure about the two through four seeds but went with Grosse Pointe South followed by Grosse Pointe North and then Detroit Martin Luther King. Harper Woods is clearly the five seed while Hamtramck is the sixth seed. It would be very a very interesting first round matchup between Harper Woods and Detroit Martin Luther King with the winner possibly facing Detroit Cass Tech in the district semifinals along with a possible battle of Grosse Pointe on the other side of the bracket. That would be very interesting to say the least.

District 23 @ Berkley

BERKLEY

OAK PARK

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

Detroit Renaissance

Detroit Mumford

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Detroit Renaissance, 2. Detroit Mumford, 3. Berkley, 4. Southfield Arts and Tech, 5. Oak Park.

TOP PLAYER: Zahra Richardson- Detroit Renaissance

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Nicqo Shoulders- Berkley

WILDCARD: Jayla Adams- Detroit Renaissance

FAVORITE: Detroit Renaissance

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Detroit Mumford

MOST DANGEROUS: Berkley

FIRST THOUGHTS: This district is the same as last season however it has the makings of a mismatch in what should be a competitive district. Detroit Renaissance went to the Division One State title game falling to Muskegon last season. The Phoenix is the likely favorite in the Detroit Public School League and in this district. They are well coached under Coach Deshawn Wood, and they have proven talent and proven experience. Berkley should be improved after having a really tough year last season for Coach Clay Shaver. Detroit Mumford is always talented and are more than capable to make another run to the district finals if things go right. Southfield Arts and Tech are a sleeper to watch in this district. The Warriors have a ton of proven experience coming back for Coach Shaquita Coltrane. Oak Park is going to have it rough despite having more experience for Coach Tyler Washington. Until otherwise this is the Phoenix district to lose.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: The MPR looks like this is Detroit Renaissance's district to lose. It's clear the Phoenix are the top seed with the experience they have coming back. It was really tight between Detroit Mumford, Berkley, and Southfield Arts and Tech but thought the Mustangs would get the nod over the Bears and Warriors. Oak Park is clearly the five seed in this district. As mentioned in the first thoughts this is the Phoenix district to lose.

District 24 @ Birmingham Marian

GROVES

SEAHOLM

BLOOMFIELD HILLS

Birmingham Marian

North Farmington

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Groves, 2. Bloomfield Hills, 3. North Farmington, 4. Seaholm, 5. Birmingham Marian.

TOP PLAYER: Harlem Simpson- Groves

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Lucy Nemith- North Farmington

WILDCARD: Mallory Killian- Groves

FAVORITE: Groves

PRONE TO BE UPSET: North Farmington

MOST DANGEROUS: Bloomfield Hills

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is the same district as last season which was in Bloomfield Hills, but it will be at legendary Mary Cicerone Court at Birmingham Marian. Groves won their first district in four years (61-46 over Bloomfield Hills,) and they could repeat this season however they want more after falling 80-65 to Wayne Memorial in the regional semifinals last season The Falcons have two proven players that are coming back and are well coached under first year Coach Joya Purmeyer. North Farmington should be very competitive in their first year in the Lakes Valley Conference for Coach Michael Allin. Bloomfield Hills has experience with four starters coming back but can they take the next step for Coach Renardo Brown. Seaholm should be competitive despite having some questions for Coach Chris Manchester. We don't know what to expect with Birmingham Marian despite having home court after having a rough year last season. Groves has a chance to make more history, but can they have a deep postseason run remains to be seen???

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: Groves should be the top seed with the talent they have coming back. Bloomfield Hills and North Farmington would be a very interesting battle for the second seed. I thought with the Black Hawks strength of schedule that they should be the two seed while the Raiders the three seed. Seaholm should be the four seed. Birmingham Marian despite playing in the Catholic League looks locked to be the five seed. As mentioned in the first thoughts, this district is Groves to lose.

District 28 @ Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK

TROY

TROY ATHENS

Warren Cousino

Warren Mott

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Troy Athens, 2. Troy, 3. Royal Oak, 4. Warren Cousino, 5. Warren Mott.

TOP PLAYER: Kaitlyn Piggott- Troy Athens

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Maci Zeiter- Troy

WILDCARD: Dimyah Jackson- Royal Oak

FAVORITE: Troy Athens

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Troy

MOST DANGEROUS: Royal Oak

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is the same district as last season which was in Warren (Mott) but it's at Royal Oak this season. Troy Athens won this district (50-41 over Troy) which was their first since 2002 before falling 54-33 to New Baltimore Anchor Bay in the regional semifinals. The Red Hawks have a new coach in Brittany Brennan who has taken over the program. Troy has the best player in the district, but it seems that they have the most pressure for Coach Laura Guzman. Royal Oak is Royal Oak. The Ravens have home court and is very dangerous under Coach Brian Sopota. Warren Cousino took a step back last season but should be better under former Ferndale University Coach Bennie Szczepkowski. Warren Mott has been competitive but struggled winning seven games last season. The Marauders should be much improved for Coach Maria Vultaggo. This district should be competitive again like it was last season.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: When looking at this district I felt Troy Athens has one of the best players in the game along with a new coach. I think with Coach Brittany Brennan coaching the program, she will get the best out of her players which is why I have the Red Hawks as the top seed in the district. Troy has a good team coming back and they have a very talented player however there are still some questions which is why they are the two seed. Royal Oak is still Royal Oak, and they should be the three seed. Warren Cousino is locked as the four seed. Warren Mott looks locked as the fifth seed. Overall, this is very familiar based on seeding from last season.

District 29 @ Utica

ROCHESTER

STONEY CREEK

Utica

Romeo

Utica Eisenhower

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Utica Eisenhower, 2. Romeo, 3. Stoney Creek, 4. Rochester, 5. Utica.

TOP PLAYER: Mackenzie Turner- Utica Eisenhower

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Sam Fulkerson- Stoney Creek

WILDCARD: Layla Babich- Romeo

FAVORITE: Utica Eisenhower

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Stoney Creek

MOST DANGEROUS: Romeo

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is the same district from last season which it was at Utica Eisenhower, it's at Utica this season. Utica Eisenhower won the district (44-34 over Stoney Creek) and went to the Final Four falling to Muskegon last season. The Eagles should be one of the favorites in the Macomb Area Conference. They have the majority of their team coming back for former Royal Oak assistant coach Madison Ristovski. Stoney Creek had a ton of changes this offseason. They have a new coach in Anne Hetzel taking over the program. The Cougars will have a new system where they could experience a transition period which has to happen during the season. Stoney Creek won the Red and with all the distractions they had last season. Romeo should be in the conversation with a ton of proven experience coming back for Coach Ron LeBlanc. Rochester should be competitive despite losing some key players for Coach Andrew Toppie. Utica could struggle again and they have a new coach along with home court. This looks like this is the Eagles district to lose.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This is a very interesting district as mentioned. Utica Eisenhower has experience and a tough schedule which is why I have them as the top seed in their district. Romeo has a very talented player coming back and I have concerns surrounding Stoney Creek with their transition period they have to go through which is why the Bulldogs are the two seed and the Cougars are the three seed. Rochester is locked into the four seed, and Utica is locked into the five seed. This should be a very interesting district, and the seeds are explained thoroughly.

District 30 @ Adams

ADAMS

LAKE ORION

CLARKSTON

AVONDALE

WATERFORD

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Clarkston, 2. Avondale, 3. Lake Orion, 4. Waterford, 5. Adams.

TOP PLAYER: Brooklyn Covert- Clarkston

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Kara Veeder- Lake Orion

WILDCARD: Sasha McClendan- Avondale

FAVORITE: Clarkston

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Avondale

MOST DANGEROUS: Lake Orion

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is the same district as last season when Clarkston won the district at Lake Orion but this season it's at Rochester. It's very possible that there could be three division champions that are in this district. Avondale has everyone coming back including their star three headed monster but there are program strength concerns that surround Coach Roy Christmon's program. Lake Orion has a new coach in Dan Steakley but there are some questions despite having experience coming back along with a strong eighth grade class coming into the program. Waterford should be much improved and have a strong eighth grade class coming in for Coach Andrew Wellman. Adams lost a lot of experience after upsetting Lake Orion (53-34) in the district semifinals and getting to the district finals, but they are in a much better place under second year coach Justin Howard. Clarkston has a ton of experience along with a strong eighth grade class coming in for Coach Aaron Goodnough. This district looks like this is the Wolves district to lose.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This should be very interesting to explain. Clarkston should be the top seed based on their schedule and who they have coming back. Avondale was the five seed in the district last season but with their full roster coming back, the Yellow Jackets should be the two seed. Also, the schedule helps them. Lake Orion is in a very interesting spot. The schedule is not as strong as in years past and they have had an interesting offseason which had a coaching change. The Dragons are more than capable of getting the two seed but because of Avondale's non-conference schedule went with the Yellow Jackets as the two seed and the Dragons the three seed. Waterford has a ton of experience coming back and could make a run at the three seed but felt the four seed is best and they play Lake Orion in the regular season. Adams lost a ton of experience, should be competitive, and have home court. I have them as the five seed because of the experience they lost from last season. As mentioned, this is Clarkston's district to lose.

District 31 @ West Bloomfield

WEST BLOOMFIELD

Orchard Lake St. Marys

Walled Lake Northern

Walled Lake Central

Lakeland

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Orchard Lake St. Marys, 2. West Bloomfield, 3. Walled Lake Northern, 4. Lakeland, 5. Walled Lake Central.

TOP PLAYER: Allie Crighton- Orchard Lake St. Marys

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Iyana Davis- West Bloomfield

WILDCARD: Mackenzie Perkins- West Bloomfield

FAVORITE: Orchard Lake St. Marys

PRONE TO BE UPSET: West Bloomfield

MOST DANGEROUS: Walled Lake Northern

FIRST THOUGHTS: West Bloomfield has been a proven State power winning multiple State crowns and having deep postseason runs however the Lakers had an early exit falling 48-45 to Lakeland in the district semifinals last season. There has to be motivation for the Lakers and Coach Darrin McAllister. Orchard Lake St. Marys is still the favorite in the district with the experience that Coach Brad Crighton has coming back. Lakeland and Walled Lake Northern should be in the mix especially Walled Lake Northern. This should be an interesting district.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: Orchard Lake St. Marys should be the top seed in this district with the experience they have coming back. West Bloomfield should have a say with the tough non-conference slate they play. Walled Lake Northern and Lakeland should battle for the three and four seeds while Walled Lake Central is locked for the five seed. I felt Walled Lake Northern should be the three seed but Lakeland is more than capable and whoever gets the four seed has to play on that Monday. The top two teams are clearly the Eaglets and Lakers but the Knights and Eagles are more than capable for upsets like when Lakeland upset West Bloomfield last season. This should be a very interesting district to say the least.

District 32 @ Lapeer

OXFORD

Davison

Grand Blanc

Holly

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Davison, 2. Oxford, 3. Grand Blanc, 4. Lapeer, 5. Holly.

TOP PLAYER: Nia Wilson- Davison

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Isabella Lopez- Grand Blanc

WILDCARD: Brody Elling- Oxford

FAVORITE: Davison

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Oxford

MOST DANGEROUS: Grand Blanc

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district despite being the same but this year the district moves to Genesee County. Davison won the district at Oxford (48-29 over Oxford) and went to the regional semifinals where they took Clarkston to the limit before falling 60-50 on their home floor last season. The Cardinals have home court along with a ton of proven experience coming back for Coach Lauhanna McMahon. Oxford has a ton of proven experience but there are program strength concerns for Coach Trevor Marshall. Grand Blanc should be much improved after going through a very tough transition period for second year coach Sylvester Liggins. Lapeer is very interesting with a lot of young talent along with a proven coach in former Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Lake Orion Coach Bob Brydges. Holly could struggle in this district. This looks like this is the Cardinals district to lose having home court, but four teams might have a shot at this district if Davison is not careful. Grand Blanc and Davison are in their final seasons in the Saginaw Valley League before they head to the OAA next season.

EARLY MPR EXPLANTION: There has been a ton of movement surrounding this district. Davison looks locked for the top seed because of who they have coming back and home court. Holly is locked as the five seed but two through four was really tough to figure out. Oxford is going to be in the Red and has the majority of their team coming back. Grand Blanc should be much improved after what happened to them last season. Lapeer has a new coach in Bob Brydges who is an instant game changer. I felt that the Wildcats experience at the guards along with the arrival of Elling is just enough to keep them at the two seed while the Bobcats have their fair share of experience coming back is the three seed. The Lightning lost a ton of experience from last season but with Brydges at the helm he makes them a player. I felt Grand Blanc's size and experience keeps them the three seed and the Lighting as the four seed but anything is possible in this district.

District 58 @ Detroit Henry Ford

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Detroit Henry Ford, 2. Ferndale University, 3. Hazel Park, 4. Ferndale, 5. Detroit Communication Media Arts.

TOP PLAYER: Aria Matthews- Ferndale University

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Nakoda Henderson- Hazel Park

WILDCARD: Angel Jones- Ferndale

FAVORITE: Detroit Henry Ford

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Ferndale University

MOST DANGEROUS: Hazel Park

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is not a very strong district on paper. Detroit Henry Ford, Hazel Park, and Ferndale University could have strong says. The Vikings have proven experience. Detroit Henry Ford has home court and is well coached. Ferndale University might the most dangerous team in this district. The Eagles have a ton of experience coming back for Coach Brian Pinkett. Ferndale is a sleeper that could make some noise. The Eagles should be much improved and have a ton of proven experience coming back for second year Coach April Johnson. This should be a very interesting district to say the least despite not being strong.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This is not a very strong district on paper as mentioned in the first thoughts but I went with the host Detroit Henry Ford as the top seed despite having home court and questions. Ferndale University and Hazel Park should battle for the two seed with the winner being the home team for the district semifinals. I felt the Eagles experience gave them the edge for the two seed over the Vikings. Ferndale should be locked for the four seed. Detroit Communication of Media Arts is locked for the fifth seed. Overall, this looks like it's the Trojans district to lose.

District 59 @ Pontiac

PONTIAC

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

Madison Heights Lamphere

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Birmingham Detroit Country Day, 2. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 3. Madison Heights Lamphere, 4. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, 5. Pontiac.

TOP PLAYER: MaKayla Sykes- Birmingham Detroit Country Day

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Saniyah Blackwell- Birmingham Detroit Country Day

WILDCARD: Tessa Bordogna- Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

FAVORITE: Birmingham Detroit Country Day

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

MOST DANGEROUS: Madison Heights Lamphere

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is an interesting district, but one team stands out in the first thoughts column. Birmingham Detroit Country Day looks primed to have another deep postseason run back to the Breslin Center in East Lansing, but they fell 58-30 to Goodrich in the Division Two State Quarterfinals last season. The Yellow Jackets will be in the Catholic League next season are loaded with proven talent and experience for Coach Amber Deane. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep might have a say at who could win this district. The Fighting Irish lost a ton of proven talent, but they always reload and are well coached under Coach Matt Matuza. Also watch for Madison Heights Lamphere and Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, they could both make some noise as well. Pontiac could struggle in this district for Coach Corray Lett despite having home court. This looks like Birmingham Detroit Country Day's district to lose.

EARLY MPR EXPLANTION: This district looks like this is Birmingham Detroit Country Day's district to lose. The Yellow Jackets should be the top seed in the district. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is clearly locked as the second seed in the district despite losing a ton of experience. Pontiac is locked into the five seed. I went back and forth with Madison Heights Lamphere and Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood for the three and four seeds but went with the Rams as the three seed based on who they have coming back over the Cranes who I think is a more well-rounded team. Overall, this is still Birmingham Detroit Country Day's district to lose.

District 14 @ Northville

Northville

Novi

South Lyon

South Lyon East

Walled Lake Western

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Northville, 2. South Lyon East, 3. Novi, 4. South Lyon, 5. Walled Lake Western.

TOP PLAYER: Peyton Silver- Northville

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: McKinley Reid- South Lyon East

WILDCARD: Annabelle Ham- Novi

FAVORITE: Northville

PRONE TO BE UPSET: South Lyon East

MOST DANGEROUS: Novi

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is the same district as last season back at Northville. South Lyon East had an amazing year which included a 52-45 upset win over Northville in the district final along with a 65-61 double overtime upset of Saline in the regional semifinal before falling to Belleville in the regional finals last season. Northville should be much improved and back to being themselves for Coach Jimmy Reddy in their final year in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. Novi has a set of twins that are very capable to making some noise along with proven experience coming back for Coach Zack Hauk in their final season in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. South Lyon should be very competitive despite struggling to score at times however the Lions defense kept them in games which it should be the case again this season. Walled Lake Western is well coached under Steve Emert. This should be a very interesting district to watch.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was a hard district to figure out with the teams in this district. South Lyon East won the district last season but felt with the experience the Cougars lost, I felt they would be the two seed in the district. Northville has home court and motivation after what happened to them last season at the hands of South Lyon East. I felt that the Mustangs should be much improved and its year two under Coach Jimmy Reddy that Northville is ready to make that jump to the top seed in the district. Novi and South Lyon could battle for the three and four seeds. I went with the Wildcats because of who they have back plus they have a set of twins that could make an impact. The Lions have the defense, but the offense remains to be seen. Walled Lake Western should be locked into the five seed in this district. Overall, this should be a really fun district to watch.

District 88 @ Clawson

Clawson

Detroit Jalen Rose Academy

Grosse Pointe University Liggett

Royal Oak Shrine

Warren Michigan Collegiate

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Clawson, 2. Royal Oak Shrine, 3. Grosse Pointe University Liggett, 4. Warren Michigan Collegiate, 5. Detroit Jalen Rose Academy.

TOP PLAYER: Sydney Love- Clawson

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Violet Richards- Clawson

WILDCARD: Dani Moss- Clawson

FAVORITE: Clawson

PRONE TO BE UPSET: Royal Oak Shrine

MOST DANGEROUS: Grosse Pointe University Liggett

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district on paper, but this could be Clawson's best opportunity to win this district. The Trojans have home court and is well coached under Michelle Lindsey in their final season in the Macomb Area Conference. Clawson might not have to see Rochester Lutheran Northwest until the regional but they have to win the district first. Royal Oak Shrine is very competitive along with Grosse Pointe University Liggett. This should be a very interesting district as mentioned.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: I felt that this district wasn't as strong, but it gave Clawson their best chance. The Trojans have home court and felt they should get the top seed. Royal Oak Shrine is not bad as is Grosse Pointe University Liggett. It wouldn't surprise me if these three teams battle for the top seed however Royal Oak Shrine and Grosse Pointe University Liggett have tougher schedules than Clawson because of the Catholic League. Warren Michigan Collegiate and Detroit Jalen Rose Academy should battle for the four and five seeds. Overall, this looks like a three-team district but felt because of home court the Trojans should get the top seed.

Boys Basketball Districts-2027

Here are the boys basketball districts for 2027. This will be updated very often.

District 21 @ Detroit Cass Tech

HARPER WOODS

Detroit Cass Tech

Detroit Martin Luther King

Hamtramck

Grosse Pointe North

Grosse Pointe South

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Detroit Cass Tech, 2. Hamtramck, 3. Grosse Pointe South, 4. Detroit Martin Luther King, 5. Grosse Pointe North, 6. Harper Woods.

TOP PLAYER: Stevie Hall- Detroit Cass Tech

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Quincy Wright- Hamtramck

WILDCARD: Andre Cast- Hamtramck

FAVORITE: Detroit Cass Tech

UPSET PRONE: Grosse Pointe South

MOST DANGEROUS: Hamtramck

FIRST THOUGHTS: This is a very tough district on paper. Detroit Cass Tech is the early favorite with experience, and they have one of the top players in the State coming back. Detroit Martin Luther King should be much improved. Hamtramck should be in the mix with their balance and experience. Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South are very interesting teams. Harper Woods has a new coach in former Warren Lincoln assistant Stepfon Moore but there are a ton of questions that Moore needs to address when it comes to program strength. This should be a very interesting district to watch.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was hard to figure the MPR because three teams have a legit shot. Detroit Cass Tech has the best player and proven experience which is why I have them the top seed. Hamtramck has a lot of experience coming back which is why I have them the two seed because of conference schedule. Grosse Pointe South should be solid which is why I have them as the three seed. Four through six was interchangeable. I felt familiarity should help Detroit Martin Luther King which is why I have them as the four seed over Grosse Pointe North. Harper Woods has a new coach with a ton of questions which is why I have them as the sixth seed. I think these seeds are very reasonable for now.

District 23 @ TBD

GROVES

SEAHOLM

SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH

Birmingham Brother Rice

Farmington

North Farmington

PROJECTED MPR: 1. North Farmington, 2. Birmingham Brother Rice, 3. Groves, 4. Seaholm, 5. Farmington, 6. Southfield Arts and Tech.

TOP PLAYER: Connor Brown- North Farmington

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: CJ Brown- Birmingham Brother Rice

WILDCARD: Drew Sermo- Berkley

FAVORITE: Birmingham Brother Rice

UPSET PRONE: North Farmington

MOST DANGEROUS: Seaholm

FIRST THOUGHTS: This district feels different, but it has the same OAA feeling. Farmington and North Farmington are no longer in the OAA as they are now in the Lakes Valley Conference, but they are still very dangerous with both teams bringing OAA experience into their new league. Birmingham Brother Rice was a final four team falling 55-52 to East Lansing last season, but they have experienced some setbacks when it comes to transfers leaving their program. Groves, Seaholm, and Southfield Arts and Tech should be much improved, and each have shown promise this summer for Coaches Marc West, Spenser Adams, and Josh Lyle respectively. Whoever hosts this district should have an advantage that is for sure.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was a tough district to seed because there is a ton of parity. Birmingham Brother Rice went to the Final Four last season but recent losses of two of their better players to transfer along with losing a strong senior class is going to be tough to replace. North Farmington is in this district which means an aggressive defensive system from Coach Pete Mantyla. I have the Raiders as the top seed in this district because of the Warriors recent transfers leaving the program. The three through five seeds were really hard to figure out. Groves and Seaholm should be much improved. I felt playing in the Red has its advantages, but Groves plays Seaholm in the regular season which could determine the three seed, the Falcons playing in the Red has them in the three seed for the moment. The Maples are going to be very good as well and could get the three seed Farmington has some questions which is why I have the Falcons as the five seed. Southfield Arts and Tech despite being improved looks like they could be the sixth seed, but they can move up as well. It's a hard district to seed because of parity.

District 24 @ Detroit Renaissance

OAK PARK

BERKLEY

Detroit Renaissance

Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit

Warren Fitzgerald

Detroit Mumford

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Warren Fitzgerald, 2. Detroit Renaissance, 3. Detroit University-Detroit, 4. Detroit Mumford, 5. Oak Park, 6. Berkley.

TOP PLAYER: Quenten Graham- Warren Fitzgerald

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Clark Langdon- Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit

WILDCARD: Drew Sermo- Berkley

FAVORITE: Warren Fitzgerald

UPSET PRONE: Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit

MOST DANGEROUS: Detroit Renaissance

FIRST THOUGHTS: This has the makings of a very tough district on paper, but it has yet to remain to be seen on the court. Warren Fitzgerald and Detroit Renaissance have a lot of proven experience coming back which if everything go right should be a very interesting district final. Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit should be another team to watch after really struggling last season. Detroit Mumford be very interesting with everything surrounding their program. The Mustangs have a new coach in former Detroit Fredrick Douglass and Wayne Memorial Coach Nkwane Young. Berkley and Oak Park should be competitive for Coaches James McCulloh and Durrand Sheppard. It's going to be tough sledding for the OAA schools.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This is a very interesting district to seed. I think Warren Fitzgerald and Detroit Renaissance are the two top teams in this district. I figured with the Spartans having their top player coming back that it seems reasonable to seed Warren Fitzgerald as the top seed because of their top player. The Phoenix should be fine with the two seed, but they are more than capable of getting the top seed. I do not trust Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit, they were really bad last season. I thought about switching Detroit Mumford, Oak Park and the Cubs but the Mustangs are going through a coaching transition so I gave the three seed to the Cubs for now however Detroit Mumford could pass them in future writings along with the Knights. Berkley looks locked into the sixth seed, but they could move up. This looks like a two-team district but three through six could be interchangeable.

District 28 @ Utica

ROYAL OAK

TROY

TROY ATHENS

Utica

Utica Ford II

Sterling Heights Stevenson

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Sterling Heights Stevenson, 2. Utica Ford II, 3. Utica, 4. Troy Athens, 5. Troy, 6. Royal Oak.

TOP PLAYER: Alan Spahic- Troy Athens

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Grant Wilkins- Troy

WILDCARD: Blake Kuiper- Troy

FAVORITE: Sterling Heights Stevenson

UPSET PRONE: Utica Ford II

MOST DANGEROUS: Utica

FIRST THOUGHTS: This has the makings of a very interesting district at Utica which is a very small but historic gym. Utica Ford II looks much improved along with Sterling Heights Stevenson. Utica was very consistent last season. Troy has a ton of proven experience coming back for hall of fame Coach Gary Fralick. Troy Athens should be in the mix, and they have experience coming back for Coach Mitchell Vercellino. Royal Oak lost a lot of talent and their head coach and could struggle under new coach Jake Blancher this season. It looks like Macomb County could be in serious contention, but this could also be a five-team district as well.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was a tough district to seed which makes it fun to figure it out. I thought of putting Sterling Heights Stevenson as the top seed as the Titans have a lot of proven talent coming back. Utica Ford II has looked much improved this summer which makes the Falcons very interesting to watch, their summer performance has them as the two seed at the moment. Utica is much improved, but they can move up and possibly get the top seed however they are the three seed at the moment. Troy Athens has the best player in the district but supporting cast concerns has me concerned which is why I have the Red Hawks as the four seed. Troy should be in the conversation for the top seed plus they have a hall of fame coach in Gary Fralick but felt the five seed might be best especially with their depth. Royal Oak lost a ton of talent along with their best player transferring out of state and they have a new coach which is why they are the sixth seed. Five teams have a shot to win this district.

District 29 @ Bloomfield Hills

BLOOMFIELD HILLS

AVONDALE

WEST BLOOMFIELD

Orchard Lake St. Marys

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

Walled Lake Central

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Orchard Lake St. Marys, 2. Bloomfield Hills, 3. Avondale, 4. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, 5. Walled Lake Central, 6. West Bloomfield.

TOP PLAYER: Carter Canfield- Bloomfield Hills

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Elijah Hines- Orchard Lake St. Marys

WILDCARD: Qualaeb Ross- Avondale

FAVORITE: Orchard Lake St. Marys

UPSET PRONE: Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

MOST DANGEROUS: Bloomfield Hills

FIRST THOUGHTS: This has the makings of a district that could have a ton of storylines. Avondale lost a lot of proven talent and an assistant in Steve Laidlaw who is the new boys coach at Goodrich from a team that went to the Final Four last season, but Coach Aaron Fox knows how to reload which should help. Orchard Lake St. Marys should be much better for Coach Todd Colvert after having a young team and getting to the district finals falling 39-36 to West Bloomfield last season. Bloomfield Hills should be in the mix with the experience they have coming back for Coach Brian Canfield along with having home court. There are questions surrounding Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood despite getting a transfer from Birmingham Brother Rice and getting experience playing in Division One last season. There are a ton of questions Walled Lake Central after they lost a ton of experience. There are bigger questions with West Bloomfield since they do not have a coach yet. Overall, this should be a very interesting district.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This could be a very tough district. Orchard Lake St. Marys looks primed to have a bounce back year with a lot of proven experience coming back which is why I have them as the top seed. Bloomfield Hills and Avondale were hard to figure out. The Yellow Jackets are in the Red while the Black Hawks are in the White. I felt with Bloomfield Hills experience and home court it seemed reasonable to put Bloomfield Hills as the two seed and Avondale as the three seed despite being in different divisions. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood has a really good player, and they were the top seed in their district last season, but I felt the three above them are better teams so that's why they are the four seed. There are a ton of questions with Walled Lake Central, and they could struggle which is why they are the five seed. West Bloomfield looks like they are in deep trouble without a new coach and playing in the Red it could be very tough which is why I have them as the sixth seed. This should be interesting to watch during the season.

District 30 @ Clarkston

CLARKSTON

WATERFORD MOTT

WATERFORD KETTERING

Walled Lake Northern

Holly

Lakeland

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Clarkston, 2. Walled Lake Northern, 3. Lakeland, 4. Waterford Mott, 5. Holly, 6. Waterford Kettering.

TOP PLAYER: Ace Walters- Clarkston

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Katim Jallow- Waterford Kettering

WILDCARD: Aiden Rose- Clarkston

FAVORITE: Clarkston

UPSET PRONE: Lakeland

MOST DANGEROUS: Walled Lake Northern

FIRST THOUGHTS: The magic and ora of the iconic great Dan Fife might have made this district possible in what is the best-case scenario for Clarkston who doesn't have to deal with Avondale or Lake Orion in a district. The Wolves have home court, a proven experience team which is determined, and everything lines up in front of them for Coach Tim Waslik. Walled Lake Northern could give the Wolves fits because of the Negoshians (Coach Ryan Negoshian and his father the legendary former North Farmington Coach Tom Negoshian) but it doesn't look likely at the time being. Waterford Kettering should be a dark horse and could be an impact team with an emerging star along with an upstart coach in Will Howard to watch. Waterford Mott could struggle in this district despite having former Wolves standout Andrew Myers coaching them. Holly has been up and down lately this summer but it's Coach Steve DeHart and he's one of the best in the game. This district has Clarkston written all over it.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: When this district came out, I talked to my padawan about this district before school was let out for the summer, she couldn't believe how easy Clarkston's path looks as with a lot of others who have seen this district. The Wolves have home court and a lot of proven talent coming back. It would be a massive shock to the system if Clarkston did not get the top seed in this district. Walled Lake Northern looks locked to get the two seed because of the Negoshians. Three through five was tough to figure out, I went with Lakeland because of past experience. Waterford Mott could really struggle but they have a new coach in former Clarkston standout Andrew Myers. Holly should be much improved under Coach Steve DeHart. I have the Corsairs as the four seed while the Bronchos as the five seed. Waterford Kettering should be very competitive but seeing their summer scores lately they look locked as the sixth seed but they are more than capable of moving to the three seed. This is the Wolves district to lose, if they were to get upset it would be a major shock to the system.

District 31 @ Stoney Creek

LAKE ORION

STONEY CREEK

ROCHESTER

ADAMS

Romeo

Utica Eisenhower

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Adams, 2. Rochester, 3. Lake Orion, 4. Stoney Creek, 5. Utica Eisenhower, 6. Romeo.

TOP PLAYER: Cannon Flynn- Adams

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Nate Tandy- Rochester

WILDCARD: Nolan Harbston- Utica Eisenhower

FAVORITE: Adams

UPSET PRONE: Rochester

MOST DANGEROUS: Lake Orion

FIRST THOUGHTS: This should be a very competitive district which any team can win this district. Adams is the early favorite because of proven experience, playing in the Red, and they are well coached under Coach Isiah Novak. The Highlanders got to the regional finals falling 53-36 to Avondale last season. Rochester lost a ton of proven experience from a team that went 22-0 until they fell 39-38 to Adams in the district finals last season. The Falcons still have program strength coming back for Coach Nick Evola. Stoney Creek had a bounce back year winning 12 games along with a 66-40 win over Romeo in the first round falling 37-33 to Adams in the district semifinals last season. The Cougars have home court and proven experience for Coach Marko Tomich. Lake Orion is coming off a very tough 71-48 loss to Avondale in the district semifinals has a very strong senior class coming back for Coach Jose Andrades and they see everyone in this district at least once in the regular season. Utica Eisenhower should be much better after winning six games in an injury riddled year for Coach Anthony Muscat. Romeo has a new coach but a tough transition period ahead. This should be a fun district to watch.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was a very tough district to figure out. Adams should be the top seed. The Highlanders have the top player, and they play in the Red but playing in the Red doesn't always guarantee getting the top seed in the district. Rochester went 22-0 and played in the White. They had the top seed but lost to Adams in the district finals. Felt the Falcons have a chip on their shoulder but felt it was tight between them and Lake Orion but the Falcons experience in the interior has them as the two seed. Lake Orion is the most dangerous because they see everyone in this district at least once. It was tight between the Dragons, Utica Eisenhower, and Stoney Creek but I felt the Dragons should get the three seed based on the style they play with while the Cougars get the four seed, and the Eagles the five seed. Romeo has a new coach and a transition period ahead which is why I have them as the sixth seed. This should be a fun district to watch. Anyone can win this district.

District 32 @ Davison

OXFORD

Davison

Grand Blanc

Flint Kearsley

Lapeer

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Grand Blanc, 2. Flint Kearsley, 3. Oxford, 4. Davison, 5. Lapeer.

TOP PLAYER: Brody Casper- Oxford

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Max O'Mara- Grand Blanc

WILDCARD: Grayson Boyle- Oxford

FAVORITE: Grand Blanc

UPSET PRONE: Oxford

MOST DANGEROUS: Flint Kearsley

FIRST THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting district like it was at Oxford last season. No one would have thought with the season Grand Blanc was having (won 17 games) but they were shocked falling 45-43 to Oxford in the district semifinals (which had a six straight district crown win streak until last season.) The Wildcats went onto beat Davison in the district finals 56-52 but fell to Adams 46-43 in a very competitive regional semifinal. Grand Blanc has a ton of proven experience coming back in their final year in the Saginaw Valley League for Coach Doreace Martin. Flint Kearsley lost their head coach to Okemos this offseason but made a huge hire in former Flint Beecher Coach and Michigan State standout Marquese Gray as their head coach. Gray led Flint Beecher to the 2023 Class C State Crown and has a history turning programs around. The Hornets went 12-11 falling to Davison in the district semifinals in double overtime last season. Gray is a big addition for Flint Kearsley, but he did mention to WJRT ABC-12 that Rome wasn't built overnight which it will take time for the Hornets to adjust to the Hornets and Gray to the players. Davison has a new coach in Tyler Thompson who is in their final year in the Saginaw Valley League, but the Cardinals have been competitive this summer while going through their own transition period. Lapeer could struggle in this district. Oxford is well Oxford and they are well coached under Coach Joe Fedorchik. The Bobcats are the early favorites, but this could be a four-team district.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATON: The seeds were interesting to project. Grand Blanc should be locked into the top seed and Lapeer as the five seed. Two through four were hard to project. Oxford has the talent to be competitive but it's interesting seeing what is going on at Davison. The Cardinals lost two key pieces and has a new coach in Tyler Thompson. I thought it over between the Wildcats and Davison for the three seed and felt that Oxford has more proven talent coming back compared to the Cardinals who has to go through a transition period, I just felt more comfortable putting Oxford as the three seed and Davison as the four seed. Flint Kearsley is very interesting. Before the hire of Marquese Gray, I had the Hornets as the three seed but with his arrival Flint Kearsley moves up to the two seed just because of him. It will be very interesting to see what happens with this district.

District 57 @ Ferndale

FERNDALE

FERNDALE UNIVERSITY

Center Line

Hazel Park

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Ferndale, 2. Hazel Park, 3. Center Line, 4. Ferndale University.

TOP PLAYER: Eden Vinyard-Ferndale

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Toriano Adams- Ferndale

WILDCARD: Xavier Vinyard- Ferndale

FAVORITE: Ferndale

UPSET PRONE: Center Line

MOST DANGEROUS: Hazel Park

FIRST THOUGHTS: This has the makings of Ferndale easily winning this district. I'm a bit surprised that this is a four team instead of a five or six team district like other districts are but that could change with the MHSAA moving schools in the past pending on location. The Eagles are loaded and have home court under Coach Juan Rickman. Hazel Park won 15 games last season under former Ferndale University Coach Josh Nicks and should be competitive. Ferndale University should be competitive under Coach Anton Bradford. Center Line comes from Division Two to Division One and should be competitive despite some questions for Coach Derrick Walton. This looks like this will be Ferndale's district to lose.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This district kind of reminds me of the Clarkston district with Ferndale getting the top seed along with proven experience and home court. Hazel Park and Center Line should battle for the two and three seeds. I felt the Vikings schedule gives them an edge for the two seed. The Panthers should get the three seed. Ferndale University should be much improved and are more than capable of getting the two seed but for now this district is Ferndale's to lose.

District 59 @ Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

PONTIAC

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Birmingham Detroit Country Day, 2. Pontiac, 3. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 4. Macomb Lutheran North, 5. Madison Heights Lamphere, 6. Warren Michigan Collegiate.

TOP PLAYER: JJ Claudio- Pontiac

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Caden Covington- Pontiac

WILDCARD: Christian Cast- Birmingham Detroit Country Day

FAVORITE: Birmingham Detroit Country Day

UPSET PRONE: Pontiac

MOST DANGEROUS: Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

FIRST THOUGHTS: The Phoenix were a buzzer beater from winning their first district since 2019 falling 57-55 to Goodrich in double overtime last season. Pontiac will get to rekindle some rivalries in the postseason. These two city rivals are no strangers to one another in the postseason. The Fighting Irish are well coached under Coach Andy Durkin. The Phoenix won 62-55 in the district semifinals at Goodrich. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep won 55-52 two years ago at Sy Green Gym in the district finals, but the Fighting Irish aren't the only rivals that Pontiac might have to deal with. It's likely that the Phoenix will have to see Birmingham Detroit Country Day down the line if they want to win this district. The Yellow Jackets are a proven powerhouse in the State and just recently joined the Catholic League. Birmingham Detroit Country Day has been everywhere in the postseason, but Pontiac won 63-59 in overtime two years ago over the Yellow Jackets at Sy Green Gym. The Phoenix are well coached under Coach Dion Harris and should be the favorite in the Blue. This district is going to be a challenge that is for sure for Pontiac with Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and especially Birmingham Detroit Country Day in this district. I don't see Madison Heights Lamphere, Macomb Lutheran North, and Warren Michigan Collegiate touching the top three in this district but that could change.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This was an interesting district to really figure out based on seeding. Birmingham Detroit Country Day and Pontiac were the two seeds that I really thought hard about but felt with the Yellow Jackets moving to the Catholic League being a big difference and they have a ton of proven talent coming back, I really felt that Birmingham Detroit Country Day should get the top seed over the Phoenix but Pontiac is more than capable of getting the top seed in this district. I felt Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is clearly the three seed. Madison Heights Lamphere, Warren Michigan Collegiate, and Macomb Lutheran North were interchangeable with seeds four through six. I think with the experience the Crusaders have they should get the four seed while the Rams get the five seed, and Warren Michigan Collegiate the sixth seed. This looks like it's a three-team district for sure.

TOP PLAYER: Dean Lewis- Walled Lake Northern

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Isaiah McCree- Novi Detroit Catholic Central

WILDCARD: Ben Snow- Novi

FAVORITE: Novi Detroit Catholic Central

UPSET PRONE: Walled Lake Western

MOST DANGEROUS: Northville

FIRST THOUGHTS: This has the makings of a very interesting district after the district was at Novi Detroit Catholic Central last season it has been moved to Northville this season. Novi and Northville are about even when it comes to program strength and even based on strength under Coaches Sean Turner and Chris Housey respectively in their final seasons in the Kensington Lakes Activates Association. Novi Detroit Catholic Central is well coached and experienced team. The Shamrocks won the district (won 65-43 over South Lyon East) and made to the regional semifinals falling 46-44 on a buzzer beater to Ann Arbor Pioneer last season under former Grand Blanc Coach Tory Jackson. Walled Lake Western has the best player in the district and is well coached under former Lake Orion alumni Dwayne Graves. The South Lyon schools are very competitive especially South Lyon East after getting to the district finals last season. This should be a really interesting district to say the least.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This should be a really interesting district in northern Wayne County. Novi Detroit Catholic Central has a lot of proven talent coming back which is why I felt the Shamrocks should be locked into the top seed. Walled Lake Western has the best player in the district which is a reason I felt the Warriors should be the two seed in this district over the Cougars. I think South Lyon East should be the three seed in this district. Novi and Northville are about even and also almost interchangeable. I felt the Mustangs are a little bit more suited for the four seed than the Wildcats but that could change. South Lyon looks locked for the sixth seed. Overall, this district looks like it's the Shamrocks to lose.

District 90 @ Clawson

Clawson

Pontiac Arts and Tech

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian

Rochester Lutheran Northwest

Waterford Oakdale Prep

Royal Oak Shrine

PROJECTED MPR: 1. Pontiac Arts and Tech, 2. Rochester Lutheran Northwest, 3. Royal Oak Shrine, 4. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian, 5. Clawson, 6. Waterford Oakdale Prep.

TOP PLAYER: Lewis Lovejoy- Pontiac Arts and Tech

PLAYER ON THE SPOT: Sherrod Magee- Pontiac Arts and Tech

WILDCARD: Colton Moats- Clawson

FAVORITE: Pontiac Arts and Tech

UPSET PRONE: Royal Oak Shrine

MOST DANGEROUS: Rochester Lutheran Northwest

FIRST THOUGHTS: It's going to be a tall order for Clawson to compete in this district. The Trojans had an interim coach in Tanner Beachnau but was given the permanent role in the offseason. Clawson will leave the Macomb Area Conference next season. Pontiac Arts and Tech was a final four team last season and has arguably the two best players back in the district. Royal Oak Shrine has a new coach but with a ton of questions. Lutheran Northwest is always tough under Coach Mike Griffin. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian is up and down and has some questions. Waterford Oakdale Prep has been up and down. This should be a very interesting district to say the least.

EARLY MPR EXPLANATION: This district was pretty simple to figure out. Pontiac Arts and Tech have a ton of proven experience after getting to the Division Three State title game last season. Pontiac Arts and Tech should have the top seed in this district based on proven experience. I felt comfortable with Rochester Lutheran Northwest getting the two seed, they are well coached under former Lake Orion Girls Coach Mike Griffin. Royal Oak Shrine has a new coach and new system. I felt they should get the three seed for now. I was torn between Auburn Hills Oakland Christian and Clawson for the four seed but felt that the Lancers should get the four because of their schedule. Waterford Oakdale Prep looks locked for the sixth seed in this district. This looks like it's Pontiac Arts and Tech's district to lose.

Baseball State Semifinal/Softball Quarterfinal Preview.

Written Saturday June 6th at 7:56 PM

Here are the upcoming Baseball State Semifinal and Softball Quarterfinal Preview.

Baseball

ADAMS vs Brownstown Woodhaven at Michigan State

The Highlanders have had a history of walk offs beating Rochester, Romeo, and Chippewa Valley in that fashion. Adams exploded for 17 runs in a stunning 17-3 win over Oxford to get to the State Semifinals. Brownstown Woodhaven has been very impressive including beating Birmingham Brother Rice in the regional finals and Warren De LaSalle in the State Quarterfinals. This should be a very interesting matchup with the winner playing Novi Detroit Catholic Central or Mattawan in the Division One State Finals.

Softball

Northville vs Howell at Ypsilanti Lincoln

The Mustangs are going to be a future OAA member in two years, but they have a great shot to get to Michigan State after knocking out the defending State Champs in Saline 2-1. Northville will have a familiar opponent in Kensington Lakes Athletic Association rival Howell. This should be a very interesting quarterfinal with the winner getting Livonia Stevenson or Walled Lake Northern in the Division One State Semifinals at Michigan State.

Here is the Division One State Final Preview

LAKE ORION vs Grand Haven

The Dragons have had a quiet postseason run in which no one has talked about them in the media. Lake Orion had to survive a five-set thriller against Northville but they will have a tough matchup with Grand Haven. The Buccaneers have been rolling and have been battle tested. This should be a very interesting matchup between two teams that are somewhat familiar with one another on Saturday afternoon in Battle Creek.

Updated Tuesday June 16th at 9:12 PM

The Clarkston Wolves will have a new athletic director this fall.

Jeff Kosin has retired as athletic director at the end of the school year according to multiple sources. The job was posted on workinsports.com on Wednesday.

"After ten incredible years as Athletic Director (26 at Clarkston Community Schools) we celebrate and thank Jeff Kosin for his unwavering leadership, dedication, and commitment to Clarkston Athletics. His passion for student athletes, commitment to excellence, and relentless support of our coaches and programs helped shape a culture that will endure long after his final day. Through his leadership, dedication, and commitment to student athletes, Clarkston Athletics has achieved remarkable success while fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and pride. Jeff's impact reaches far beyond championships and trophies, it lives on countless students, coaches, and families he inspired along the way. Thank you for your leadership, your passion, and the legacy you built. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement! #CTOWN #CLARKSTONNATION" Clarkston Athletics said on their X page.

Kosin took over as the athletic director in 2017 from legendary boys basketball coach Dan Fife. Fife led the Wolves to two State titles in boys basketball as a coach along with three Division One State crowns in football along with multiple postseason appearances.

Kosin spent ten years as athletic director leading Clarkston to greater heights and promise. He had 57 titles under his watch including seven State Championships.

It will be very interesting to see who takes over the athletic director's job at Clarkston but Kosin did a great job with the athletic department building it into what it is today. Clarkston is a great job with a great community.

Here is the girls soccer State Semifinal preview.

TROY vs Ann Arbor Skyline @ Stoney Creek

The Colts have a chance to make the Division One State Final after a 1-0 win over Adams in the regional finals on Thursday afternoon. Ann Arbor Skyline had really not been tested until they ran into Plymouth Salem where they survived 1-0 in the regional finals on Thursday afternoon. This should be a really interesting matchup with the winner seeing either Rockford or Hartland in the Division One State Finals.

Baseball Regional Final Preview.

Written Wednesday June 3rd at 8:45 PM

Here is the baseball regional final and quarterfinal preview with both games at Grand Blanc and the winners meet.

OXFORD vs Milford

The Wildcats have been rolling as of late. Oxford had dominated in Genesee County including two wins in Grand Blanc along with a 5-2 win at Swartz Creek. The Mavericks have been a surprise in the postseason after being projected not to get past the districts. Milford won 5-0 over West Bloomfield. This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams that are rolling with confidence right now.

ADAMS vs Chippewa Valley

This is shaping up to be a very interesting matchup between two teams that had to survive extra-inning games to get here. Chippewa Valley beat Utica Henry Ford II 4-3 in nine innings. Adams had to survive 3-2 in eight innings against Romeo to get to this matchup. The Highlanders look to be more of the battle tested team, but this will be very interesting to say the least.

LAKE ORION vs Northville

SAMMY THOUGHTS: This is shaping up to be a very interesting game between two future league members in Lake Orion and Northville. The Mustangs had no problem with Hartland winning in three sets. The Dragons earned a hard fought four set win over Farmington. This should be a very interesting matchup between two teams that have made head waves this season.

Jordan steps down at West Bloomfield.

Written Tuesday June 2nd at 5:00 PM

West Bloomfield will have a new boys basketball coach next winter.

Lakers Coach Arnette Jordan has stepped down on Tuesday according to Mitten Recruit on X.

Jordan went 39-64 in his five seasons with West Bloomfield which included two White titles and a district crown in the process.

West Bloomfield will have a new athletic director in Shane Hynes taking over the athletic department next fall. Hynes was previously at Waterford Mott and has been at Waterford Kettering and Troy. It will be very interesting to see what direction Hynes goes with this search.

The Lakers went 8-18 winning a district crown (39-36 over Orchard Lake St. Marys in district final) but fell 53-34 to Avondale in the regional semifinals last season. West Bloomfield will be in the Red with Clarkston, Ferndale, Groves, Adams, and Avondale this winter.

West Bloomfield has Jamison Wester, Quentin Allen, Nasir Moore, Shon Adkins, Jaydn Brown, Dorian Jackson, Shannon Rochon, and Eujune North coming back. Program strength will be something to watch with the Lakers going forward.
