When you realize your season is on the line after a rough first half like what the West Bloomfield Lakers gone through. They had a choice to make, to fold or battle back.
West Bloomfield faced that choice in the Division One State Semifinals.
When the Lakers trailed 29-20 at the half and 38-25 early in third quarter, Coach Darrin McAllister's faced a choice.
Fold or battle back???
They chose to battle back.
And battle they did.
West Bloomfield clawed and scrapped going on a 20-7 run the rest of the way and to sugar coat it with Rockford up three (45-42) after two made free throws, Summer Davis passed the ball to her sister Indya Davis and she bank shot a prayer which went in, stunning the Rams players, coaches, and the vaunted orange shirted Rockford student section tying the game at 45-45 sending it to overtime.
The Lakers in overtime used the momentum gained from the Davis three went on a 10-2 run and got their revenge stunning Rockford who was the defending Division One State Champs 55-47 in overtime.
Since the 35-22 score for the Rams, West Bloomfield outscored Rockford 33-12 in that stretch.
Summer Davis had 22 points while Indya had 17 for the Lakers. Anna Wypich had 20 points, Jordan Mateer had 12 points, and Kate Higgins had 11 points for the Rams.
West Bloomfield circled this game after falling 40-36 last season to Rockford in the Division One State Finals. The Lakers also beat the Rams in the Division One State Semifinals two years ago 66-63.
The Lakers will have a rematch with Grand Blanc on Saturday at the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State with tip off at 12:15 PM. The Lakers beat the Bobcats 67-28 on February 29th in Grand Blanc.
