North Farmington goes within with their new Boys Basketball Coach.

Written Wednesday October 8th at 4:10 PM

Pete Mantyla has long waited his turn and has learned from the legendary Negoshian family.

Now he gets his chance to lead one of the most legendary programs throughout the state.

Mantyla was named the new boys basketball coach at North Farmington on Wednesday. He takes over for Todd Negoshian who became the new Athletic Director at Stoney Creek in July.

The D-Zone confirmed the hire.

Mantyla coached the summer program for the Raiders when Negoshian was doing his duties as the athletic director.

What helps North Farmington is that Mantyla knows the system and has learned from two of the best to ever come from the game in the legendary Negoshian family as mentioned in Tom and also Todd Negoshian. Mantyla was the junior varsity coach for years and was a top assistant under both Negoshian's.

The Raiders will head into the Lakes Valley Conference next season but North Farmington will be in the OAA and in the Red this season with Avondale, Clarkston, Farmington, West Bloomfield, Ferndale, and Groves. Also they will have a really favorable district in Livonia with Farmington, Livonia Stevenson, Livonia Churchill, Livonia Franklin, and Redford Thurston in their district.

The Raiders went 12-10 but was upset 69-60 by arch rival Farmington in the district semifinals last season.

North Farmington has Jayden Glinz, Troy Waldron, DJ Morgan, Quran Creary, Brendyn Flowers, Dylan Brown, and Connor Brown coming back for Mantyla. The Raiders also pride themselves in program strength which North Farmington will have this season.

It is unknown if Tom Negoshian will return as an assistant for Mantyla this season but anything seems possible.

There won't be much of a transition period with Mantyla because of familiarity with the system and coaching staff but it will be very interesting to see if there will be differences from the past.

Pete Mantyla has long waited for this opportunity and it's here now to lead as mentioned one of the most legendary programs in the state.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
