Norgrove leaves Stoney Creek.

Written Friday March 18th at 11:15 AM

No one saw this one coming.

In a shocking and surprising move there will be a new Boys Basketball Coach at Stoney Creek next season.

Stoney Creek Coach Steve Norgrove stepped down on Thursday from coaching the program. Norgrove coached the Cougars for 12 years leading them to three league titles, two district titles, and two regional final appearances. They were also a 12 time BCAM (Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan) all academic team as well.

"To whom it may concern, I am resigning from my position as Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Stoney Creek HS. I appreciate the administration as well as those who supported the program in the last 12 seasons. I'm proud of our coaches I entrusted and the young men who worn the Stoney Creek jersey with "Strength and Honor" said Norgrove in a letter on Twitter.

Norgrove also coached at Farmington prior to coming to Stoney Creek.

His departure comes as a huge loss for the program. It also comes in the wake of Athletic Director Rick Jakacki stepping down on Tuesday from Stoney Creek to focus on family and other job opportunities.

The Cougars really struggled this season going 6-15. They fell to Rochester in the first round of the postseason. Whoever the new coach is will have a lot of experience in Peyton Rummler, Jonah McCay, Tre Walker, Emillio Villafuerte, Tommasso Sinacola, and Jacob Watson coming back. Program strength also looks to be solid as well.

It will be very interesting to see where the Cougars go from here when it comes to their next coach.
