The West Bloomfield Lakers had their toughest girls basketball game on Friday afternoon.
It came from the Rockford Rams.
In a packed Breslin Center filled with mostly fans wearing orange and black, the Lakers found a way and beat the Rams 66-63 on Friday afternoon in the Division One State Semifinals to get back to the Division One State Finals for the first time since 1989.
Indya Davis led West Bloomfield with 24 points, Summer Davis had 16 points, Sydney Hendrix had 10 points, while Myonna Hooper had 14 points and hit some clutch free throws late to seal it.
Grace Lyons led Rockford with 21 points (five three pointers) and both Wypych sisters (Anna and Alyssa) had 11 points each.
The Rams made 13 three pointers in the game which was insane.
West Bloomfield will meet Hartland in the Division One State Finals on Saturday afternoon. .
STATE FINAL PREVIEW
This is setting up to be a very interesting matchup of two different styles. One is quick and athletic while the other has a lot of size and length.
Hartland features a ton of balance and size in Lauren Sollom, Gracey Metz, Olivia Linden, Leah Lappin, Amanda Roach, and Morgan Seog.
Roach led the Eagles with 18 points and Lappin added 13 points in their 52-42 victory over Wayne Memorial in the Division One State Semifinals.
West Bloomfield and Hartland are no strangers to one another. The Lakers and Eagles played in the regional finals in 2020 with the Eagles winning that game at Walled Lake Western after that game the pandemic hit and shut everything down.
That was before the Davis sisters got to West Bloomfield and they have a new coaching staff this time around.
There is one team in common that West Bloomfield and Hartland played this season in Clarkston. The Lakers beat the Wolves twice by blowout margins in the Red. The Eagles had to survive the Wolves 48-46 in the regional finals.
If this game becomes a speed game, advantage Lakers. If this game becomes a set and size game, advantage Eagles.
It should be a very interesting matchup to watch.
