The Phoenix made a stunning coaching move with their boys basketball program.
Pontiac named Robert Hill as their head coach taking over for Coach Dion Harris.
The MHSAA confirmed the hire on it's website as of Thursday evening.
It is unknown what happened to Harris if he was let go or if he stepped down at Pontiac. Harris led the Phoenix to 17 wins and finished 17-7. They made the district finals falling 57-55 in double overtime on a buzzer beater to Goodrich last season.
Hill is the Phoenix fourth coach in five years played at Pontiac Northern for legendary coach Robert Rogers from 2005-2008.
The Phoenix have Caden Covington, JJ Claudio, Nasir Harris, G'aimir Lyles, JaKobe Hickman, and Tim Ewing coming back. Program strength is something to watch with Pontiac going forward.
The Phoenix are in the Blue with Troy, Troy Athens, Seaholm, Royal Oak, and Harper Woods. They are in a district with Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, Birmingham Detroit Country Day, Macomb Lutheran North, and Madison Heights Lamphere, and Warren Michigan Colligate.
This came out of nowhere, will this move change a lot, only time will tell.
