An Icon has called it a career.
Longtime Troy Boys Basketball Coach Gary Fralick has retired from coaching boys basketball on Tuesday.
Keith Dunlap of the Detroit News confirmed the news.
Fralick told his players the news this week according to Dunlap.
Fralick spent 54 years coaching with 40 years at Troy (33 as the head coach) and recently got his 500th win against Royal Oak last season.
Fralick has coached a lot of great players from Brody Parker, Mason Parker, and James Young among others. He led the Colts to a State Quarterfinalist appearance in 2017.
Fralick was inducted into the Michigan High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in September.
It will be interesting to see who takes over the Colts this winter, but Fralick has left his mark within Troy but the entire State of Michigan.
Troy has a veteran team in Hayden Oriol, Grant Wilkins, Destin Parker, and Blake Kuiper coming back. Program strength looks solid. The Colts are in the Blue with Troy Athens, Seaholm, Pontiac, Royal Oak, and Harper Woods and in a district that has Troy Athens, Utica Henry Ford II, Utica, Sterling Heights Stevenson, and Royal Oak this season.
There could be three names to watch in the coming weeks to replace Fralick, but whoever the coach is will have his hands full replacing an icon.
Fralick is an Icon and has earned everything he has.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
