District Final Matchups.

Written Saturday October 31st at 12:00 AM

Here are the matchups for week 11.

Division Three

HARPER WOODS vs Detroit Martin Luther King: This is one of the matchups we are waiting for with the Pioneers hosting the Crusaders at Beaconsfield. Harper Woods needed a bounce back game winning 50-8 over Warren Fitzgerald in the first round. This should be a very interesting game of two teams that are very athletic and talented.

Division One

NORTHVILLE at Saline: The Mustangs bounced back after falling to Howell 35-22 in the KLAA championship game. They head to Saline to take on a Hornets team that is rolling right now. Saline has balance and is very dangerous. Northville has defensive concerns coming into this game against a very good and high-octane Saline offense and they are huge up front. This should be a very interesting game.

ADAMS at STONEY CREEK: These two schools are separated by Tienken Road and are no strangers to one another. The Highlanders won 23-14 in week seven over the Cougars. Brendan Gercais's health is extremely critical. He injured his shoulder against Adams. The Highlanders have had their moments of good and bad. Both teams are coming off dominating victories in the first round. This should be a very interesting matchup.

ROCHESTER at Romeo: The Falcons are coming off a very similar story to Adams when the exact same thing when the Falcons started hot that went cold and then scored a touchdown late but couldn't get the two-point conversion. This time it was almost the same exact story, but they got the two-point conversion by Nate Tandy on a double reverse which led to a stunning 22-21 upset win over Macomb Dakota. It's going to be tough for Rochester heading to Dan Barnabo Field to play the Bulldogs. The Falcons have not seen a physical team like Romeo. This is going to be a tough matchup for Rochester.

OXFORD at Novi Detroit Catholic Central: The Wildcats have one of their best teams they have ever had. They will have a daunting task heading to Novi to play Novi Detroit Catholic Central. The Shamrocks were tested by Lake Orion despite the 43-6 win over the Dragons. Oxford is physical and huge up front and if they can control the line of scrimmage to go with their high-octane offense this could spell trouble for Novi Detroit Catholic Central. Depth is a concern for the Wildcats and if can they stop the edge which is the Shamrocks bread and butter along with stopping Giedon Gash an upset could happen here. This should be a very interesting game.

GRAND BLANC at CLARKSTON: This could be the most interesting rematch in the State. The Wolves won three of the last four meetings and have eliminated the Bobcats 44-22 last season. Grand Blanc beat Clarkston 42-35 back in 2020. Both teams have proven experience, but the Bobcats has motivation as mentioned. This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams that know each other quite well and it's the beginning of a future rivalry in the OAA.

Postseason Recap.

Written Friday October 30th at 11:50 PM

Here are the scores from week ten.

Clinton 57, CLAWSON 14: The Trojans had no answers for the Red Wolves misdirection offense in a stunning 57-14 win over Clawson on Friday night. The Trojans had a tough start but trailed 8-7 at one point Clinton scored 49 unanswered points making this game a rout. Clawson will have a ton of questions as they head to the OAA next season.

Chelsea 52, WATERFORD MOTT 7: The Corsairs got destroyed by Chelsea on Friday night falling 52-7 on Friday night. The Bulldogs were just the better team getting off to a 21-0 lead and really never looked back. Waterford Mott loses several key players including Tori Robinson to graduation. The Corsairs have a ton of questions they need to address next season.

HARPER WOODS 50, Warren Fitzgerald 8: The Pioneers had no issue with the Spartans winning 50-8 on Friday night. Harper Woods was in control throughout the night and even at one point led 37-0 in the game. The Pioneers have a tough matchup with Detroit Martin Luther King at Beaconsfield next week.

North Farmington 27, FERNDALE 26: This was a game that went back and forth with the Eagles having a chance to win the game but missed a 30-yard field goal giving the Raiders the 27-26 win over Ferndale on Friday night. The Eagles has a lot up front coming back but the quarterback spot will be the question for Coach Donovan Jackson heading into next season, but Ferndale is here and will be a force to recon with.

Orchard Lake St. Mary's 40, GROVES 12: The Falcons had a rough night with the Eaglets falling 40-12 on Friday night in Orchard Lake. Orchard Lake St. Marys was the dominant team in throughout the game, and it showed early and often, and Groves couldn't match up even trailing 40-6 in the second half. There are a lot of questions for the Falcons heading into next season.

St. Clair Shores Lakeview 45, SEAHOLM 31: In a game that was supposed to be low scoring it ended up being 76 points scored between the Huskies and the Maples on Friday night. Seaholm had no answer for Dallas Harris as he accounted for four touchdowns for St. Clair Shores Lakeview. The Maples lose a ton of experience, but they have a young nucleus to look at for next season despite the loss to a very good Huskies program. The Maples will be back that is for sure.

NORTHVILLE 28, Brownstown Woodhaven 19: The Mustangs bounced back after a tough 35-22 loss to Howell in the KLAA championship game last week with a 28-19 win over the Warriors on Friday night despite wearing white helmets. Northville and Brownstown Woodhaven went back and forth at times during the game. The Mustangs got a big test awaiting them when they head to Saline next week.

GRAND BLANC 39, Hartland 21: The Bobcats all season has wanted Clarkston whether it has been on their X page etc. and now they will get the Wolves after a 39-21 win over the Eagles on Friday night at the Don in a battle of two former KLAA members. Grand Blanc was in control throughout the game against a Hartland program that was huge up front. The Bobcats took an early 19-0 lead and never looked back. Grand Blanc has fallen to Clarkston the last two years, is the third time the charm for the Bobcats???

CLARKSTON 49, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 14: The Wolves had no issues with the Black Hawks despite trailing 7-6 at the end of the first quarter. Clarkston outscored Bloomfield Hills 43-7 the rest of the way in route to a 49-14 win on Friday night setting up a rematch with Grand Blanc for the third straight year in the district finals. Bloomfield Hills got back into the postseason which is a good sign heading into the future. Coach Scott Merchant has the Black Hawks heading in the right direction.

Novi Detroit Catholic Central 43, LAKE ORION 6: The Dragons were going to have it tough with Novi Detroit Catholic Central on Friday night which one bad quarter cost Lake Orion which was the third quarter. The Dragons turned the ball over four times and got a punt blocked in the game and penalties were also costly as well. Lake Orion had a better year and is on the right track heading into the future next season.

OXFORD 42, DAVISON 28: The Wildcats despite a complete fashion disaster won 42-28 over the Cardinals on Friday night. Oxford were in control most of the night against Davison despite trailing 7-6 at one point but the Wildcats vaunted offensive line got going with Keegan Pocisak scoring three touchdowns for Oxford. The Cardinals fall to 2-11 against the OAA since 2010. Davison will head to the OAA next season. The Wildcats should never wear white helmets again will head to Novi to play Novi Detroit Catholic Central next week.

ROCHESTER 22, Macomb Dakota 21: The Falcons had a very similar game like this against Adams when they went up two scores early only to see the Highlanders comeback and take the lead then Rocheter responded but couldn't get the two point conversion to tie the game and lost 21-19 in week two. It was very similar as mentioned with Rochester getting an early lead then Macomb Dakota came back and took the lead and then Rochester responded but the Falcons got the two point conversion on a double reverse by Nate Tandy with 18 seconds to go and stunned the Cougars 22-21 on Friday night. This is probably Coach Eric Vernon biggest football coaching win of his career. The Falcons will get a test when they head to Romeo next week.

ADAMS 35, Utica 0: The Highlanders were dominant in winning 35-0 over Utica on Friday night. Adams was in control throughout the game and they got their reserves in which was huge for Coach Tony Patritto. The Highlanders have Stoney Creek looming next week.

STONEY CREEK 49, Macomb L'Anse Creuse North 13: The Cougars were dominant against Macomb L'Anse Creuse North winning 49-13 on Friday night. Stoney Creek was dominant throughout the game which showed. They have Adams looming next week.

Playoff Matchups.

Written Sunday October 25th at 7:42 PM

Here are the playoff matchups for the first round.

CLAWSON at Clinton: The Trojans were thought to have a home game but instead have to go west to Clinton to take on the Red Wolves. Clinton has had a ton of high scoring games but so has Clawson. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.

HARPER WOODS vs Warren Fitzgerald: The Pioneers are coming off a tough 24-18 loss to Mason last week and still have problems against teams that want to slow down like Chelsea and Mason did against them. The Spartans are not that type of team. It could also set up Harper Woods vs Detroit Martin Luther King in the district finals next week. This should be an interesting game to see what happens.

WATERFORD MOTT at Chelsea: The Corsairs are into the postseason and have another tough postseason matchup for Coach Tra'Jan Seay. Last season it was Midland Dow this season it's Chelsea. The Bulldogs are well coached under former Lowell Coach Noelle Dean and they run the Wing T offense which slowed Harper Woods down and eventually led them to win 29-20 in week one over the Pioneers. Time possession football has been Chelsea's calling card. Waterford Mott will be tested defensively in this matchup.

FERNDALE vs North Farmington: This should be a very interesting game and see if Coach Donovan Jackson's team has truly arrived. The Eagles made a statement win over Groves winning 22-17 last week but winning a playoff game is the next step. Ferndale should be tested against a former OAA member in North Farmington. The Raiders are well coached under Coach Jon Herstein and has been consistent in the Lakes Valley Conference. This should be a fun matchup and clearly Jackson has this program heading in the right direction at Ferndale.

GROVES at Orchard Lake St. Marys: This is a rematch of a 2024 Division Two State Semifinal matchup in the first round. The Falcons lost 22-17 to Ferndale last week which is likely why they are in this game. The Eaglets have been up and down and are a powerhouse. This will be a tough matchup for Coach Brendan Flaherty and the Falcons that is for sure.

SEAHOLM at St. Clair Shores Lakeview: This is a very interesting matchup of two teams that run almost similar styles. The Maples run the veer offense while the Huskies run the Wing T offense. There should be a ton of running in this matchup of two teams that love time possession football.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS at CLARKSTON: The Black Hawks are back in the postseason for the first time since the 2017 season (pandemic doesn't count) but they will have a really tough matchup with the Wolves who are starting to click again. Clarkston is deep, athletic, and have the top seed in their region. Bloomfield Hills in the postseason will help into the future especially the younger guys who will get an extra week of practice which clearly Coach Scott Merchant has this program heading in the right direction.

GRAND BLANC vs Hartland: The Bobcats are riding with a lot of confidence ever since coming back from 24-0 down to beat Macomb Dakota 31-24 last week. The Eagles are coming off a 30-23 comeback win over Dearborn Fordson last week. Grand Blanc has a ton of depth and athleticism. Hartland has experience and is huge up front. This should be a very interesting game.

OXFORD vs DAVISON: The Wildcats are coming off a 56-24 loss to Romeo where the defense was exposed in the worst way possible. The Cardinals are coming off a 49-0 win over Lapeer last week. This should be a very interesting matchup in the trenches. Oxford has a lot of experience and Davison is a relativity young team. This should be a fun game between a current vs a future OAA member at Wildcat Stadium.

LAKE ORION at Novi Detroit Catholic Central: The Shamrocks could be the best team in Division One with all the talent they have despite not having their starting quarterback. They have a really good running back who could be Mr. Football. They are coming off a very tough 31-25 overtime loss to Birmingham Brother Rice last week. The Dragons are coming off a tough 42-14 loss to Saline last week and been battling a ton of injuries to key players. Lake Orion will have it tough against Novi Detroit Catholic Central that is for sure.

NORTHVILLE vs Brownstown Woodhaven: The Mustangs are coming off a tough 35-22 loss to Howell last week getting a home game in the postseason which always helps. Northville went to Detroit Cass Tech and was blown out 46-3 in the first-round last season now they are welcoming the team that upset Belleville in Woodhaven last season. Coach Brett Luplow has done a nice job with the Mustangs and it's an interesting matchup to say the least.

STONEY CREEK vs Macomb L'Anse Creuse North: The Cougars are dealing with injuries especially at quarterback. Stoney Creek used the last two weeks to turn things around and they have done that for Coach Rick Powell. They welcome a Lancers team that has really improved under former Sterling Heights Stevenson Coach Justin Newcombe. Macomb L'Anse Creuse North played Rochester and fell in week one while the Cougars beat Rochester in week seven. This should be a very interesting matchup to say the least.

ADAMS vs Utica: The Highlanders have had a strong season which included big time wins including a dramatic 23-22 win over Oak Park last week. Utica is coming off a tough 21-20 loss to Seaholm. It's another veer offense the Chieftains will see but it's the masters of the veer offense Utica will see with Adams.

ROCHESTER vs Macomb Dakota: The Falcons get a home postseason game but a horrible draw which if they get by the Cougars which is a tough matchup then they would play Romeo in the district finals. Macomb Dakota blew a 24-0 lead against Grand Blanc last week. It should be a crazy atmosphere in Rochester, but the challenge is that much tougher.

FINAL AROUND THE OAA Rankings-2026 season.

Written Saturday October 24th at 12:15 PM

Here is the final Around the OAA rankings for the football season. It has the record and postseason points for teams that are in the postseason.

1. Clarkston 8-1 (82.8): Wolves fixed a ton of issues in win over Muskegon. Should be coming into the postseason with confidence.

2. Oxford 7-2 (78.7): Wildcats defense is a serious concern right now, but they should be fine heading into the postseason.

3. Harper Woods 7-2 (72.3): Time possession teams are a serious concern for the Pioneers right now.

4. Stoney Creek 7-2 (72.1): Cougars quarterback situation is something to watch come the postseason.

5. Adams 6-3 (70): Highlanders could be a tough out for anyone in the postseason.

6. Rochester 6-3 (67.4): Falcons could get a home game in the first round.

7. Ferndale 7-2 (61): If Eagles go east, they could be very dangerous.

8. Seaholm 5-4 (56.4): Maples hanging by the moment right now.

9. Groves 5-4 (54.5): Falcons are in a crossroads right now.

10. Lake Orion 4-5 (53.8): Dragons have a lot of injuries. Offense did not look sharp against Saline Friday night. Need to clean a lot of things up heading into the postseason.

BIG WIN: Ferndale: The Eagles made a statement going into Beverly Hills and beating the Falcons 22-17 on Friday night. Ferndale has a ton of confidence heading into the postseason. Groves should be fine despite the loss. It's very possible these two teams could rematch next week in the postseason.

TOUGH LOSS: Oak Park: The Knights had the lead and the postseason in their grasp, but the Highlanders scored a touchdown and got the extra point which stunned Oak Park 23-22 on Friday night. It's a big win for Adams. The Knights lose a ton of proven experience, but their junior varsity team had a good season. This has been a season of what ifs for the Knights. Oak Park will be a team to watch this offseason.

WHAT HAPPENED???: Oxford: The Wildcats have not really had issues defensively except maybe Clarkston when they allowed 31 points but allowing 56 to a very good Romeo program is very tough. The Wildcats are in the postseason, but the defense has been their Achillies heal and if they want to have a deep postseason run the defense needs to be shored up big time.

HUH: Harper Woods: After beating Clarkston 28-13 last week, the Pioneers struggled with the same game plan that Chelsea did to them in long sustaining drives which led to a stunning 24-18 upset against Mason on Friday night. The Bulldogs kept the high octane Pioneers offense off the field and found ways to limit DeAndre Bidden and Dakota Guerrant offensively. Harper Woods needs to address their struggles of long sustaining drives against them in games.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Lake Orion: The Dragons have been hindered with injuries which was a big part of their 42-14 loss to Saline on Friday night. Lake Orion is in the postseason but they need some guys to step up in a big way. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Week Nine Thoughts.

Written Friday October 23rd at 11:14 PM

Updated Saturday October 24th at 9:20 AM

Novi: The Wildcats had a rough season under first year coach Logan Pawlowski but they had a 7-6 win over Wayne Memorial on Friday night. It's going to take some time for Pawlowski to put his system in place in Novi and they are coming into the OAA next season so it will be very interesting to see what happens with the Wildcats.

Northville: The Mustangs are locked into the postseason but had a tough matchup with Howell on Friday night falling 35-22 to the Highlanders. Northville will likely have to see Novi Detroit Catholic Central or Detroit Cass Tech at some point. It's going to be very interesting where they put Coach Brett Luplow's team in the postseason. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: I'm seeing the Mustangs hosting a postseason game most likely going against Brownstown Woodhaven in the first round.

Grand Blanc: The Bobcats are rolling with a ton of confidence heading into the postseason after coming back from 24-0 down to stun Macomb Dakota 31-24 on Friday night. The postseason will be the test for Grand Blanc in which they have lost the last two years to Clarkston. It will be very interesting to see where the MHSAA puts the Bobcats in the postseason. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: There has been a ton of talk about Grand Blanc possibly getting a number one seed which is possible, but I did the analysis and seen that they could get a rematch with Davison or they see Hartland which is a much tougher matchup in the first round.

Davison: The Cardinals are locked into the postseason after a 42-0 win over Lapeer on Friday night. Davison could be a tough out for anyone in the postseason. It will be very interesting to see who the MHSAA put the Cardinals against in the postseason. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: Davison is in the postseason, but they look like they will head to Grand Blanc and have a rematch with the Bobcats or they could head to Oxford in the first round as well which would be very interesting.

Clawson: The Trojans are locked into the postseason despite falling 27-7 Royal Oak on Friday night. Clawson has been rolling despite some inconsistencies. The Trojans would love another crack at Algonac after they were humiliated by the Muskrats in the regular season, but they need to avoid Marine City at all costs. It will be very interesting to see where the MHSAA puts the Trojans. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: It looks like Clawson will have a rematch with Algonac in the first round with how the bracket was drawn up but they could play Clinton which is another possible matchup as well.

Pontiac: It has been very challenging for Coach Wendell Jefferson and the Phoenix which had a tough 56-6 loss to Brandon on Friday night. It's going to take time for Pontiac to get things right, but they are making progress heading into next season.

Royal Oak: The Ravens earned a 27-7 win over Clawson on Friday night, but it wasn't enough to get them into the postseason. Royal Oak had the postseason in their grasp but a 49-0 loss to Rochester last week cost them big time. There will be a ton of questions with the Ravens this offseason, but they are closer to the postseason than they've ever been.

Berkley: The Bears had a very interesting first year under Coach Dan Earls. They didn't make the postseason and is coming off a 45-14 loss to Troy Athens at Hurley Field on Friday night. Berkley is building a culture, but it takes time to build a program which is what Earls is doing heading into next season.

Avondale: It was an interesting first season for Coach Isiah Coltrane and the Yellow Jackets, but a fight broke out in their 49-30 loss to Swartz Creek on Friday night. Coltrane has a ton of work to do with Avondale as they will have to replace a ton of experience heading into next season. The Yellow Jackets should be much improved next season.

Ferndale: The Eagles are safely in the postseason and made a huge statement with a 22-17 win over Groves on Friday night. They got a goal line stand which was huge at the end. If the MHSAA sends Ferndale east the road will be much easier unlike having to see Birmingham Brother Rice or Orchard Lake St. Marys. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Eagles, but Coach Donovan Jackson has done a nice job in his second year with Ferndale. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: There are three scenarios for the Eagles. They could host North Farmington and have to deal with Orchard Lake St. Marys in the district finals which is the worst case. They could also host Seaholm and head to St. Clair Shores Lakeview in the district finals or head to St. Clair Shores Lakeview and play in the first round. Ferndale either way could be on a collision course with the Huskies, but the Maples won't be an easy matchup.

Waterford Kettering: The Captains had a tough 49-8 loss to Macomb L'Anse Creuse on Friday night. It's going to take some time for Coach Bob Meyer to put his system in place at Waterford Kettering but it's off to a good start. The Captains will be a team to watch next season especially on both sides of the football.

Waterford Mott: The Corsairs are back into the postseason after a 41-14 win over Troy on Friday night. Waterford Mott will most likely be looking at heading to Chelsea in the first round. It will be very interesting to see where they put Coach Tra'Jan Seay in the postseason. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Corsairs have two interesting scenarios. They could have a very tough matchup heading to Chelsea or they could head to Port Huron which is a much better option but might have to deal with Warren DeLaSalle if they aren't careful. Interesting scenarios for Waterford Mott in the postseason.

Oak Park: The Knights likely seen their postseason hopes dashed after a tough 23-22 loss to Adams on Friday night. Oak Park loses a ton of experience, but program strength looks solid for Coach Greg Carter. There are going to be a ton of questions for a program that hasn't made the postseason since the pandemic in 2020.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors will miss the postseason with a 52-14 loss to Chippewa Valley on Friday night. Southfield Arts and Tech were in a transition period for new coach Antwon Robinson. The Warriors will be very young next season, but Robinson will have his foundation in place as well.

Groves: The Falcons are locked into the postseason despite falling 22-17 to Ferndale on Friday night. Groves does not want to see Orchard Lake St. Marys or Birmingham Brother Rice in the postseason. It will be very interesting to see what the MHSAA does with Coach Brendan Flaherty's program. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The loss to Ferndale means Groves will likely go on the road. There are three scenarios for the Falcons. They could play Livonia Franklin in the first round which is a very good matchup Groves could also have a rematch with St. Clair Shores Lakeview in the first round which would be a very interesting or the worst case they play Orchard Lake St. Marys first. Either way Groves will be on the road.

Seaholm: The Maples are locked into the postseason with a 21-20 win over Utica on Friday night. Seaholm like Groves does not want to see Birmingham Brother Rice or Orchard Lake St. Marys in the postseason but that is up to the MHSAA to decide. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: It is possible that the MHSAA could split Groves, Brother Rice, Seaholm was the further east, which means they would likely head south to Allen Park and play the Jaguars. It's a manageable matchup for the Maples if it were the case. With Birmingham Brother Rice winning over Novi Detroit Catholic Central the district could go through Lawerence Tech.  They could see Ferndale in the first round which would be very interesting with both games being on the road. There are options for Seaholm.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers are locked into the postseason, but they have some problems to address falling 24-18 over Mason on Friday night. Harper Woods needs to find a way to stop teams from having long drives that hurts them. They could see Warren DeLaSalle or Detroit Martin Luther King in the postseason and it's unknown if they will have home field. The Pioneers are in a very interesting place right now. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: Harper Woods did take a bit of a hit but the only place they would go is if they went to Port Huron which would be the regional finals. I have them playing Grosse Pointe North in the first round and a likely clash with either Warren DeLaSalle or Detroit Martin Luther King in the district finals. Another scenario has the Pioneers playing New Boston Huron and seeing Detroit Martin Luther King in the district finals. It's going to be tough sledding if the Pioneers unless they can figure out how to speed up the game with their two losses Chelsea and Mason slowed down Harper Woods with time possession drives, that can't happen if the Pioneers want to win the State Championship in Division Three.

Troy: The Colts are going to miss the postseason after a 41-14 loss to Waterford Mott on Friday night. Troy has a lot of questions this offseason they need to address especially when it comes to program strength. It will be very interesting to see what happens with the Colts next season.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks got a 45-14 win over Berkley on Friday night. Troy Athens will likely miss the postseason after getting jumped by Plymouth based on playoff points and Novi's win over Wayne Memorial sending the Wildcats as the last team in the postseason. It's a tough pill to swallow for Coach Tom Cook and the Red Hawks. Troy Athens is improving each season and is getting closer to the postseason.

Bloomfield Hills: The Black Hawks are in the postseason after a 45-20 win over Ann Arbor Pioneer on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills is heading in the right direction for Coach Scott Merchant and if they get into the postseason, it would be a huge accomplishment considering where they were a few weeks ago after falling to Troy Athens. We'll see what happens with the Black Hawks when it comes to the postseason matchup. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Black Hawks are in the postseason but everything points to them seeing Clarkston but there are some outliers that have them going to Novi Detroit Catholic Central although not likely in the first round of the postseason.

Rochester: The Falcons are safely in the postseason and took Monroe out of the postseason with a 35-14 win on Friday night in Monroe County. Rochester has a lot of confidence right now and program strength looks to be in a much better place for Coach Eric Vernon. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Falcons could be getting a home game out of this with playing Macomb Dakota which is a tough matchup for Rochester. What helps is Rochester has seen Macomb Dakota on seven on seven. It's going to be a tough matchup for the Falcons and if they get past the Cougars, they are looking at Romeo in the district finals which is going to be tough.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars are safely in the postseason with a 42-0 win over Ann Arbor Huron on Friday night. It is unknown if Brendan Grecius will play in the postseason and if he does it will be a huge boost for Stoney Creek. The health of their starting quarterback will be a key heading into the postseason for Coach Rick Powell and the Cougars. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Cougars could get sent east, which means a clash with Detroit Cass Tech is possible, but I have them playing Macomb L'Anse Creuse North which is very favorable but as mentioned a trip to Detroit seems very real at the moment in the district finals. There is another possibility they could see Utica in the first round if Adams gets sent west.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers will miss the postseason for the first time since 2012 with a tough 39-18 loss to Utica Eisenhower on Friday night in the Swamp. West Bloomfield has to address both lines which were problematic this season and change some things up as well heading into next season for Coach Zach Hilbers.

Adams: The Highlanders are safely into the postseason after a 23-22 win over Oak Park on Friday night. Adams looks like they will be heading east in the postseason which would be very interesting. The MHSAA will decide where to put the Highlanders. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHTS: The Highlanders could go anywhere everything is pointing to Adams heading west to Hartland to play the Eagles. It would have been interesting if they went east instead of west. If the Highlanders gets sent east, they would play Utica which would be a much better matchup than Hartland. It will be interesting to see what the MHSAA does with Adams.

Lake Orion: The Dragons are in a very interesting spot after a 42-14 loss to Saline on Friday night. Lake Orion is in the postseason, but they are likely going on the road next week. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: Injuries have hurt the Dragons all season long but looking at the indicators, some experts have Lake Orion heading to Clarkston or playing Novi Detroit Catholic Central which both games are brutal matchups. It is possible that the MHSAA could send the Shamrocks south and give the Dragons a matchup with Oxford which would be very interesting. Lake Orion will need that next man up mentality heading into the postseason.

Oxford: The Wildcats are safely into the postseason, but their defense has some issues to address in a tough 56-24 loss to Romeo on Friday night. Oxford will wait and see where they will be put by the MHSAA. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Wildcats could get their archrival Lake Orion in the first round based on points and how the last few spots came out. Oxford could be a mad house if the Dragons go to Oxford in the postseason. They could see Davison which is a tough matchup and see Novi Detroit Catholic Central in the district finals which is not a good matchup at all for the Wildcats. It's going to be very interesting to see what the MHSAA does with Novi Detroit Catholic Central.

Clarkston: The Wolves are safely into the postseason after a 24-7 win over Muskegon on Friday night. It will be very interesting to see who the MHSAA puts Clarkston which there has been rumblings they could put the Wolves in a region with Novi Detroit Catholic Central which will be very interesting. UPDATED POSTSEASON THOUGHT: The Wolves should get a top seed, which means they would likely see Bloomfield Hills or Lake Orion in the first round. It's a good draw for Clarkston and possibly make some noise in their region but they could see Novi Detroit Catholic Central in the regional finals which would be a brutal matchup.

Girls Volleyball Districts 2026.

Written Thursday October 22nd at 11:08 AM

Updated Sunday October 1:04 PM

Here is the official girls volleyball district preview.

District 87 @ Clawson

C. Madison Heights Madison vs A. Birmingham Roeper

Winner plays 1. Madison Heights Bishop Foley

D. Warren Michigan Collegiate vs B. CLAWSON

Winner plays 2. Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest

PREVIEW: This is shaping up to be an interesting district. Madison Heights Bishop Foley and Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest have been battling for the top seed in this district all season however the Crusaders have a two-set win over the Ventures earlier in the season. Clawson could play spoiler as they have home court and have played in a much tougher league in the Macomb Area Conference. This looks like it should be a rematch between Madison Heights Bishop Foley and Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest, but the Trojans will be lurking and could surprise some people.

District 4 @ Flint Kearsley

C. GRAND BLANC vs A. Flint Carman Ainsworth

Winner plays 1. DAVISON

D. Swartz Creek vs B. Flint Kearsley

Winner plays 2. Flushing

PREVIEW: This has been a very crazy battle for the top two seeds between Flushing and Davison. The Raiders have had some impressive wins over Stoney Creek, Fenton, Oxford, Novi, and Canton however one of their losses was to Davison. The Cardinals won in two sets over the Raiders. The Cardinals have wins over Stoney Creek, Canton, and Flushing. Davison has played Lake Orion, Clarkston, Brighton, Birmingham Detroit Country Day, and South Lyon East all very tough. Grand Blanc is the wildcard because they have played a really tough schedule. This should come down to a district final showdown between Flushing and Davison with the winner likely enjoying a deep postseason run until possibly the State Quarterfinals.

District 20 @ Canton

C. Plymouth vs. A. Canton

Winner plays 1. NORTHVILLE

D. Westland John Glenn vs B. Livonia Churchill

Winner plays 2. Salem

PREVIEW: This district could have some intense volleyball. Plymouth and Canton had a five-game classic recently with the Wildcats winning over the Cobras which sets up to be a very interesting first round matchup. The winner would see Northville in the district semifinals. The Mustangs have played a really tough schedule and have wins over Novi, Salem, Canton, Plymouth, Hartland, and Portage Central. Salem has also played a tough schedule as well but has a win over Plymouth. Plymouth could be a sleeper and is the C team. The Wildcats have wins over Ann Arbor Skyline, Adams, Canton, Saline, and Rochester. Canton has been battle tested as mentioned despite playing a brutal schedule. Livonia Churchill has also played a tough schedule as well. This should be a very competitive district, the Mustangs are the favorite to win this district, but the Rocks, Wildcats, and maybe the Cobras might have a say about that.

District 64 @ Ferndale

C. Hazel Park vs B. FERNDALE UNIVERSITY

Winner plays 1. FERNDALE

A. Detroit Central vs 2. Detroit Pershing

PREVIEW: The Eagles were a Division Two State Quarterfinalist last season, and they look primed to have another deep run and possibly return to the State Quarterfinals. Ferndale has had a lot of sweeps but there are serious concerns about their lack of competition. The Eagles haven't played the schedule as other teams have across the State which is a concern. Ferndale should not have an issue in the district but there are concerns particularly in the regionals if the Eagles want to make a deep run again.

District 7 @ Bloomfield Hills

C. WEST BLOOMFIELD vs B. WATERFORD MOTT

Winner plays 1. BLOOMFIELD HILLS

A. North Farmington vs 2. Orchard Lake St. Marys

PREVIEW: This is looking like this will be a likely Bloomfield Hills vs Orchard Lake St. Marys district finals. The Black Hawks were a State Finals team falling to Farmington Hills Mercy last season. There really isn't any team in this district that stand in the way of the likely district final clash between the Black Hawks and the Eaglets. Both teams have proven stars and are well coached. It would be shocking if Bloomfield Hills or Orchard Lake St. Marys were to get upset.

District 8 @ Lake Orion

C. WATERFORD KETTERING vs B. OXFORD

Winner plays 1. CLARKSTON

A. Lapeer vs 2. LAKE ORION

PREVIEW: This district looks like three teams have a shot to win this district. Oxford beat Clarkston and Lake Orion on their way to the State Quarterfinals last season. The Wildcats have a five-set win over the Dragons but lost to the Wolves which they could likely be their district semifinal opponent. Clarkston has also beaten Lake Orion in four sets this season. The Wolves have the Smith sisters which has been pivotal to their success. Lapeer could give Lake Orion fits in the district semifinals. Clarkston is the favorite because of the Smith sisters, but Lake Orion or Oxford should have strong says.

District 25 @ Farmington Hills Mercy

C. Redford Thurston vs A. Farmington

Winner plays 1. Farmington Hills Mercy

D. SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH vs B. Livonia Stevenson

Winner plays 2. NOVI

PREVIEW: This is shaping up to be a really interesting district. There are some storylines especially with Redford Thurston who is third in the MPR but could be looking at Farmington Hills Mercy in the district semifinals. Livonia Stevenson has been up and down this season. They are the B team playing Southfield Arts and Tech with the winner seeing Novi in the district semifinals. This looks like it will be a Wildcats/Marlins district finals. Farmington Hills Mercy is the favorite but don't count Novi out.

District 26 @ Birmingham Marian

C. OAK PARK vs A. BERKLEY

Winner plays 1. Birmingham Marian

D. ROYAL OAK vs. B. GROVES

Winner plays 2. SEAHOLM

PREVIEW: Birmingham Marian has been one of the most dominant teams in the State this season. The Mustangs should be favored to win this district. Seaholm, Groves, and Berkley have been battling it out for the two seed. The latter two would be placed alphabetically which doesn't favor the Bears because they would be the ones having to play Birmingham Marian. The Maples beat Berkley but lost to Groves in five sets. The Falcons beat Seaholm and Berkley both in five sets. The Bears lost to both Groves and Seaholm this season. Seaholm got the two seed, but Groves is lurking however no one is touching Birmingham Marian.

District 28 @ Grosse Pointe North

C. Roseville vs A. Grosse Pointe South

Winner plays 1. Grosse Pointe North

D. Warren Woods Tower vs B. HARPER WOODS

Winner plays 2. St. Clair Shores Lakeview

PREVIEW: This is a very interesting district looking at Grosse Pointe North and St. Clair Shores Lakeview being the top teams in the district. Grosse Pointe South has really struggled but their MPR is solid. Warren Woods Tower has been around 500. Harper Woods could have some trouble in this district. This district looks like it's going to be between the Norsemen and the Huskies in the district finals.

District 29 @ Troy

C. ROCHESTER vs A. AVONDALE

Winner plays 1. STONEY CREEK

D. TROY vs. B. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood

Winner plays 2. ADAMS

PREVIEW: This is a very interesting district. Stoney Creek has had a strong season despite being near 500. Adams has really struggled but they have played a tough schedule. Rochester has been somewhat disappointing, but they have struggled this season. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood and the Highlanders have been battling for the two seed, but the Cranes couldn't get the two seed and has to play Troy in the first round. The Colts are not an easy matchup for anyone in this district and they have home court. This should be a very interesting district at Troy.

District 30 @ Troy Athens

C. Utica Ford vs B. Sterling Heights Stevenson

Winner plays 1. TROY ATHENS

A. Sterling Heights vs 2. Utica

PREVIEW: Troy Athens is an honorary member of the Macomb Area Conference. The Red Hawks could have some trouble with Utica in the district final if they are not careful despite having home court. Sterling Heights hasn't played the schedule the Chieftains have but they are still dangerous. Utica is likely the only team that has a shot against Troy Athens in this district, but the Red Hawks have a lot going in their favor.

Boys Soccer Regional Preview.

Written Thursday October 22nd at 7:30 AM

Updated Tuesday October 27th at 11:50 PM

Here is the boys soccer regional preview.

Region 4 @ Stoney Creek

TROY vs Utica Eisenhower

The Colts are the only OAA team standing after getting by Seaholm 4-2 in the district finals and getting past Warren Cousino 5-1 on Tuesday night. They have a very interesting matchup with Utica Eisenhower who got past Chippewa Valley on Tuesday night. Troy should be favored against the Eagles who have overcame a ton of adversity. This should be a very interesting regional final.

Waterford Mott will have their third Boys Basketball Coach in six months.

Written Tuesday October 20th at 6:13 PM

Waterford Mott will have a new boys basketball coach this season.

Corsairs coach Andrew Myers will not coach Waterford Mott this season according to the MHSAA website and another very strong and accurate source who confirmed the news.

Myers was named the new head coach at Waterford Mott on May 10th under then Athletic Director Shayne Hines. Hines is currently the new athletic director at Clarkston. Jeff Jayson stepped down at Waterford Mott last March after falling 59-38 to Clarkston in the district semifinals and is coaching college basketball at Macomb Community College.

The Corsairs have a new athletic director in Connor O'Leary. O' Leary came to Waterford Mott from Novi during the offseason.

Whoever the new coach is will be the third coach in six months at Waterford Mott. They have Jasiah Benton, Jaylis Douglass, Milan Bland, Greg White, and Keegan Talley coming back. It is unknown if Tori Robinson will come back and play this season. Program strength is a serious concern for whoever the new coach is.

The Corsairs are in the White with Bloomfield Hills, Stoney Creek, Rochester, Oxford, and Lake Orion and they are in a district that has Clarkston, Waterford Kettering, Walled Lake Northern, Lakeland, and Holly at Clarkston.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Week Nine Games.

Written Friday October 16th at 11:25 PM

Here are the games for week nine.

DAVISON at Lapeer: This could be the last matchup of this rivalry that has kind of been one sided lately. The Cardinals have won 11 of the last 13 games over the Lightning including outscoring them 92-28 the last two years. This looks like a complete mismatch and it's unknown if the rivalry will continue when Davison makes the move to the OAA next season.

GRAND BLANC at Macomb Dakota: This is going to be a very interesting matchup. The Cougars have been up and down all season. The Bobcats have been very consistent and are coming off their third straight Saginaw Valley League South crown. Grand Blanc has been a machine on both sides of the football. This should be a fun matchup.

NORTHVILLE vs Howell: The Mustangs are in a tie with Belleville and Dearborn Fordson for the KLAA Black. Northville beat Belleville but fell to Dearborn Fordson. If playoff points determine the matchups then Northville would play Howell. It presents a tall task for the Mustangs heading into Livingston County. The Highlanders are a team that plays a ton of double tight coverage and are huge up front. This should be a very interesting matchup to decide who wins the KLAA crown outright.

NOVI vs Wayne Memorial: The Wildcats have had a tough season under new Coach Logan Pawlowski but Novi has a chance to close the season on a high note when they play Wayne Memorial. The Zebras have been struggling like the Wildcats but it's been a much tougher road. Novi has a chance to win this game before coming to the OAA next season.

CLAWSON vs ROYAL OAK: These are two schools that are no strangers to one another. The Trojans have won two of the last three meetings with the Ravens and they are coming into the OAA next season. Royal Oak needs this game and gets some help if they want to make the postseason while Clawson is locked into the postseason. This could be the start of a great rivalry when the Trojans comes to the OAA next season.

PONTIAC at Brandon: The Brad Zube bowl as Zube coached at Pontiac and is currently at Brandon. The Blackhawks won 55-12 over the Phoenix last season. Now the game goes to Ortonville and it's going to be a tall task for Pontiac. Brandon is a postseason team, but the Phoenix has made progress. It will be very interesting to see what happens next season.

AVONDALE at Swartz Creek: The Yellow Jackets have had an interesting first season under Coach Isiah Goultrane but hopefully he can stay long term and build a program in Auburn Hills. The Dragons have been up and down but have really struggled defensively. This could be a shootout type game with how rough both defenses have been recently.

7. FERNDALE at 8. GROVES: This could be a postseason preview with both schools in Division Two. The Falcons are in the Blue while the Eagles are in the Gold. This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams that could make some noise heading into the postseason.

Macomb L'Anse Creuse at WATERFORD KETTERING: It has been a challenging transition for the Captains in their first season back in the OAA. Waterford Kettering is in a better place and there has been some things that are going in the right direction. This should be a very interesting game with the Lancers.

WATERFORD MOTT at TROY: The Corsairs are on the postseason bubble after having a transition season back in the OAA as they are one of the last teams in the postseason field in Division Three. The Colts have really been struggling all season. For Waterford Mott, Troy is a Division One school, which means they could get huge points if they win this game.

TROY ATHENS at BERKLEY: This is a huge game for the Red Hawks who could be a postseason team with the schedule they have played. Their secondary should be tested going up against Asher Dean and the Bears started 0-3 before rebounding nicely despite the record. This should be a very interesting game to say the least at Hurley Field.

1. HARPER WOODS at Mason: This is going to be very interesting considering that the Pioneers play on turf while the Bulldogs play on grass. Harper Woods has been on a roll since their week one 29-20 loss to Chelsea in week one including stunning Clarkston 28-13 last week. Mason has been rolling and gaining a ton of confidence. This is going to be a very interesting game in Ingham County.

OAK PARK at 4. ADAMS: This could have postseason implications for the Knights. Oak Park has been on the outside looking in despite playing a tough schedule and they need a win and get some help coming into this game. The Highlanders are in the postseason and have been on a roll lately. This should be a very interesting game in Rochester.

10. SEAHOLM at Utica: The Maples have a very interesting matchup heading to Sweinhart to play the Chieftains. Utica has a really good linebacker, but Seaholm has been battle tested before. This should be a really interesting game.

Ann Arbor Pioneer at BLOOMFIELD HILLS: These are two teams that are heading in the right direction. The Black Hawks had some big wins like West Bloomfield but a tough loss to Troy Athens however they are on the outside looking into the postseason. Bloomfield Hills needs a win and some help if they want to make the postseason. The Pioneers are a very interesting team with an outside shot looking into the postseason. It will be very interesting to see how this matchup plays out between the Black Hawks and the Pioneers.

5. STONEY CREEK at Ann Arbor Huron: The Cougars have been going through some tough injuries which has hindered their progress but earned a 36-12 win over Ferndale last week. The River Rats have really been struggling which could be a good thing for Stoney Creek especially to help with their confidence heading into the postseason.

6. ROCHESTER at Monroe: This is a rematch of a 42-6 Falcons win last season over the Trojans now Rochester has to make the trip into Monroe County to play the Trojans. The Falcons have been up and down as of late. I will be very curious on how Rochester plays this when it comes to travel and traffic. If they get to Monroe early like around 4 PM and do walkthroughs in Monroe it will negate the travel advantage the Trojans have. Time is the key to this game.

Muskegon at 2. CLARKSTON: The Wolves have had an incredible season proving to doubters that they are still Clarkston despite falling 28-13 to Harper Woods last week. The Wolves will take on a Big Reds team that has surprisingly struggled this season, but they are in the postseason conversation in Division Three. This should be very interesting to see how Muskegon makes the trip east considering that Clarkston has to make the trip west next season. I feel bad for the Wolves freshman and JV teams having to make the trip to Muskegon to finish their season this week.

Romeo at 3. OXFORD: These are two teams that are thinking long term postseason dreams. Both are in the postseason but getting this win will be huge for both teams. The Bulldogs have been rolling as has the Wildcats. This should be a fun matchup at Wildcat Stadium this week.

Saline at 9. LAKE ORION: This is a game that could have postseason implications. The Dragons have played a really tough schedule and is in the thick of the postseason race in Division One. The Hornets are in the postseason and is likely in line to get multiple home postseason games. Lake Orion's schedule and Saline having to travel north gives the Dragons a chance in this game.

Utica Eisenhower at WEST BLOOMFIELD: These are two teams that have had very disappointing seasons, but someone will head to next season on a high note. The Lakers had some tough losses along with some mental errors and at times couldn't get themselves out of their own way. The Eagles have had things tough in the Macomb Area Conference Red. This is shaping up to be a very interesting game.

Chippewa Valley at SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH: It has been a very challenging year for the Warriors but hopefully they can end the season on the right note. The Big Reds will not be an easy game for Southfield Arts and Tech and it was 35-6 in favor of Chippewa Valley last season. This should be a very interesting game.

Week Nine Rankings.

Written Friday October 16th at 11:20 PM

2. Clarkston: The Wolves took a tough 28-13 loss to Harper Woods on Friday night. Clarkston struggled with Harper Woods athletes who looked dominant. They have Muskegon looming next week.

3. Oxford: Preston Wilder had a big night for the Wildcats against Groves but they have a huge test awaiting them with Romeo this week.

4. Adams: The Highlanders continue to impress with a 22-21 win over Seaholm on Friday night. Adams needed a two point conversion to win the game. They have Oak Park looming this week.

5. Stoney Creek: The Cougars despite their injury to their starting quarterback bounced back with a 36-12 win over Ferndale on Friday night. Stoney Creek has a very interesting game with Ann Arbor Huron this week.

6. Rochester: The Falcons earned an impressive 49-0 win over Royal Oak on Friday night. Rochester gets to head to Monroe to see the Trojans this week.

7. Ferndale: The Eagles had a tough 36-12 loss to Stoney Creek on Friday night. Ferndale has a very interesting game with Groves this week.

8. Groves: The Falcons had a tough 45-22 loss to Oxford on Friday night. Groves has a very interesting game looming with Ferndale this week.

TOUGH LOSS: Ferndale: The Eagles had everything lined up with Stoney Creek on Friday night, but it was the Cougars that found a way and won 36-12 on Friday night. Ferndale is fine but they have a big test waiting them next week.

WHAT HAPPENED: Royal Oak: The Ravens postseason hopes took a hit after a 49-0 loss to Rochester on Friday night. Royal Oak needs to beat Clawson and get help if they want to make the postseason next week.

TEAM NEEDS A HUG: Seaholm: The Maples fell 22-21 to the Highlanders on a two-point conversion. Seaholm will be fine despite the loss, but it does hurt them. They have Utica looming next week.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Groves: The Falcons had a rough night with Preston Wilder on Friday night. Wilder was dominant for Oxford in a stunning 45-22 win over Groves. The Wildcats were surprisingly dominant against the Falcons who have been a good defensive team all season long. Groves has Ferndale looming next week.

HUH: Clarkston: What happened to the Wolves defense on Friday night against Harper Woods??? The Wolves were shocked falling 28-13. The Pioneers athletes showed out while Clarkston struggled on both sides of the football which was uncharacteristic of them. They have Muskegon looming next week.

Week Eight Thoughts.

Written Friday October 16th at 10:45 PM

Here are the week eight thoughts.

Novi: I don't know how to describe the Wildcats falling 55-0 to Dearborn Fordson on Friday night. Novi secured playing Wayne Memorial next week.

Northville: The Mustangs earned an impressive 55-14 win over Plymouth Salem on Friday night. Northville will play Howell for the KLAA crown next week in Livingston County.

Clawson: The Trojans were up 34-0 over Hazel Park on Friday night last reported. Clawson has Royal Oak looming next week. This will be updated.

Davison: The Cardinals had a tough 28-21 loss to Grand Blanc on Friday night. Davison hung tough with Grand Blanc but a bad mistake on a punt which led to a recovery for the Bobcats and a tough loss for the Cardinals. They have Lapeer looming next week.

Grand Blanc: Jake DeWitt and TyAnthony Lewis were very instrumental in clinching the Saginaw Valley South crown in a 28-21 win over Davison on Friday night. The Bobcats are clicking on all cylinders. They have Macomb Dakota looming next week.

Pontiac: The Phoenix had a tough 17-0 loss to Troy on Friday night. Pontiac has struggled throughout the season. They have Brandon looming next week.

Troy: The Colts earned their first win of the season winning 17-0 over Pontiac on Friday night. Troy has a chance to spoil Waterford Mott's season next week.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks kept their postseason hopes with a 35-0 win over Avondale on Friday night. Troy Athens has Berkley looming next week.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets took a tough 35-0 loss to Troy Athens on Friday night. Avondale has Swartz Creek looming next week.

Bloomfield Hills: The Black Hawks postseason hopes took a huge plus with an impressive 42-7 win at Hurley Field. Bloomfield Hills is looking very good at the moment. They have Ann Arbor Pioneer looming next week.

Berkley: The Bears took a tough 42-7 loss to Bloomfield Hills on Friday night. Berkley has been up and down all season. They have Troy Athens looming next week.

Rochester: The Falcons likely locked themselves into the postseason with a 49-0 win over Royal Oak on Friday night. Rochester was dominant against a Ravens team that struggled to stop them. They have Monroe looming next week.

Royal Oak: The Ravens postseason hopes might have took a hit after a 49-0 loss to Rochester on Friday night. Royal Oak might need some help and they need to beat Clawson next week. The Ravens are on the outside looking in at the moment.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars overcame the loss of their quarterback and found a way to beat Ferndale 36-12 on Friday. Stoney Creek needed a bounce back after having a tough loss to Adams last week. They have Ann Arbor Huron looming next week.

Ferndale: The Eagles had a tough 36-12 loss to Stoney Creek on Friday night. This was a big game for Ferndale to see if they pass the test, they are still making that next big step up. They have Groves looming next week.

Waterford Mott: The Corsairs earned a 31-21 win on Thursday night over archrival Waterford Kettering keeping their postseason hopes alive. Waterford Mott has Troy looming next week.

Waterford Kettering: The Captains took a tough 31-21 loss to archrival Waterford Mott on Thursday night. Waterford Kettering is heading in the right direction despite the loss. They have Macomb L'Anse Creuse to close the season next week.

Clarkston: The Wolves took a humbling 28-13 loss to Harper Woods on Friday night. It is clear that the Pioneers have Clarkston's number going 3-0 against them. The Wolves drove early but had a fumble which led to a Harper Woods touchdown and then it snowballed, the offensive line shockingly struggled to protect quarterback Alex Wazscensko (16 for 28 for 180 yards and two touchdowns) who was sacked four times and the defense struggled against Harper Woods's athletes. It was very unusual for a team that is normally disciplined like Clarkston who usually doesn't beat themselves to commit 12 penalties like they did (eight in the first half,) but this could be a good thing to take a humbling loss like this. They have another Division Three school in Muskegon looming next week.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers took a major step stunning Clarkston 28-13 on Friday night. Harper Woods athletes showed up and showed out against a Wolves defense that is normally disciplined. Dakota Guerrant accounted for 173 total yards and three touchdowns (two rushing and a receiving score.) Harper Woods defense shut down Clarkston's offense which was stunning getting four sacks. They have a big one looming against Mason next week.

Lake Orion: The Dragons bounced back in a big way winning 35-8 over Oak Park on Friday night. Lake Orion's ground attack was dominant while the defense was strong as well. They have a big one with Saline looming next week.

Oak Park: The Knights postseason hopes did but didn't take a major hit after falling 35-8 to Lake Orion on Friday night. Oak Park needs to beat Adams and get some help if they want to make the postseason next week.

Oxford: Preston Wilder went nuts in Beverly Hills on Friday night in an 45-22 win over Groves on Friday night. The Wildcats are clicking on all cylinders right now. They have Romeo looming next week.

Groves: The Falcons took a tough 45-22 loss to Oxford on Friday night. Groves had trouble defensively against the Wildcats. They have Ferndale looming next week.

Adams: The Highlanders needed to get a two point conversion to win 22-21 over Seaholm on Friday night. It's a big win for Adams who needed it after winning 23-14 over Stoney Creek last week. They have Oak Park looming next week.

Seaholm: The Maples had a tough 22-21 loss to Adams on Friday night. Seaholm allowed a two point conversion in a game that went back and forth. The Maples will be fine. They have Utica looming next week.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors had a tough 28-2 loss to West Bloomfield on Friday night. Southfield Arts and Tech has struggled all season and they are going through a transition period which had to happen during the season. They have Chippewa Valley looming next week.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers dominated Southfield Arts and Tech winning 28-2 on Friday night. West Bloomfield has a chance to end the season on a high note with Utica Eisenhower looming next week.

Troy and Seaholm repeats as State Champs in Boys Tennis.

Written Friday October 16th at 8:30 AM

Updated Sunday October 25th at 10:27 AM

The OAA has their first two state titles of the 2026-2027 school year.

The Troy Colts repeated as the Division One State Champions scoring 29 points at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland. Birmingham Brother Rice was second with 20 points and Ann Arbor Pioneer was third with 19 points.

Clarkston and future league member Novi tied for fourth with 17 points, Adams was sixth with 16 points, Bloomfield Hills was tied for ninth with 11 points, Troy Athens was 11th with 10 points, Stoney Creek was tied for 16th with future league member Northville with one point while Rochester did not score.

The Colts used the doubles side winning the Division One State crown winning in flights one and three which was a big reason which led to Troy repeating as State champions.

The Maples repeated in Division Two winning the State crown scoring 35 points at the Midland Tennis Center in Midland on Saturday afternoon. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern was second with 25 points, and Midland Dow was third with 24 points.

Groves was seventh with 12 points and Berkley was ninth with 10 points.

Seaholm used a balanced attack in both singles and doubles to repeat as State Champions. It was tight between the three teams on the second day, but the Maples got just enough points to earn the repeat.

Troy gave the OAA their first State crown and Seaholm gave the league their second State crown of the 2026-2027 school year with more State championships to come.

Week Eight Games.

Written Saturday October 10th at 9:45 AM

Here are the games for week eight.

Plymouth Salem at NORTHVILLE: The Mustangs are back on track after a 30-7 win over Belleville on Friday night. The Rocks have been up and down as of late. This should be a very interesting matchup on Eight Mile.

Dearborn Fordson at NOVI: The Wildcats have really struggled defensively allowing 476 rushing yards last week against Plymouth but the offense came to life scoring 30 second half points despite falling 55-30 to the Wildcats last week. Novi has a tough matchup with Dearborn Fordson. The Tractors are rolling with confidence right now. This should be a tough matchup for the Wildcats.

Hazel Park at CLAWSON: The Trojans Macomb Area Conference Bronze hopes were smashed after getting blown out 50-7 by Madison Heights Madison last week. Clawson has a chance to get back at Hazel Park before coming into the OAA next season. The Vikings have been up and down this season. This should be a very interesting game to say the least.

GRAND BLANC at DAVISON: The matchup we have been waiting for is here with the Cardinals and the Bobcats. Both teams are unbeaten in the Saginaw Valley League South/Red with Davison having one loss to Novi Detroit Catholic Central. The last time this game was played at Cardinal Stadium Grand Blanc won 55-49 and have won two straight since then. This should be a very interesting game.

1. CLARKSTON at 3. HARPER WOODS: This is shaping up to be a postseason preview in Division One and Three. The Pioneers have won the last two meetings over the Wolves both were in Clarkston but now this game is in Beaconsfield. Both teams have been rolling and have 23 total commitments coming into this game. It's setting up to be a very interesting game in Wayne County on Friday night.

2. OXFORD at 7. GROVES: These are two teams that are gearing up for the postseason. The Wildcats have a lot of confidence after winning 51-7 over West Bloomfield last week. The Falcons are coming off a 37-12 win over Waterford Mott last week. Oxford has an edge on almost every position including running back in this game. This should be a test in Beverly Hills.

6. STONEY CREEK at 4. FERNDALE: This is a very interesting matchup in Ferndale. The Eagles want to prove that they belong with the powerhouses of the OAA. Here is the test, an angry and experienced Cougars team that is coming off a 23-14 loss to Adams last week and have a huge injury they are dealing with in quarterback Brandon Gercacis who injured his shoulder in the loss to the Highlanders. Ferndale lost their previous test to Harper Woods, Stoney Creek is familiar in experience, this is a huge game for the Eagles.

5. ADAMS at 9. SEAHOLM: The battle of the veer ended up being the crossover battle this week. The Highlanders are coming off a stunning 23-14 win over Stoney Creek last week. The Maples fell 47-7 to Harper Woods last week. These are two teams that are mirror images of the other. This should be a very interesting game in the Maple Forest.

8. ROCHESTER at 10. ROYAL OAK: The Ravens and Falcons are in very interesting spots when it comes to the postseason. The Ravens fell 55-13 to Ferndale last week. The Falcons bounced back winning 34-14 over Troy Athens last week. This is going to be a very interesting matchup between two postseason teams and something to watch.

LAKE ORION at OAK PARK: This is basically an elimination game when it comes to the postseason. The Dragons currently sit in the postseason in Division One despite falling 56-21 to Clarkston and the injury bug made its return last week. The Knights are motivated after falling 14-13 to Lake Orion last season and are currently sitting on the outside looking in in Division Three. Oak Park won 38-12 over Southfield Arts and Tech last week. This is a huge game for both teams in Knight Valley.

WEST BLOOMFIELD at SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECH: These are two teams that have struggled this season. The Lakers were unexpected to have a 1-6 year. Many would have thought the Warriors would be here after struggling defensively and playing a tough schedule. These are two rivals that are looking to get their second win of the season this week.

TROY at PONTIAC: These are two teams that are really struggling heading into the final two weeks of the season. The Colts scored the most they had all season with 28 points despite falling 54-28 to Bloomfield Hills last week. The Phoenix have been struggling scoring and allowing points falling 44-0 to Waterford Kettering last week. This should be an interesting game to see who gets their first win of the season.

TROY ATHENS at AVONDALE: This is a very interesting matchup of two teams that have different dynamics. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a tough 25-18 overtime loss to Berkley last week. The Red Hawks are coming off a 34-14 loss to Rochester last week. Troy Athens has a huge offensive line which could pose problems for Avondale heading into this game.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS at BERKLEY: This is shaping up to be a very interesting matchup between the Bears and Black Hawks. Berkley is coming off an emotional 25-18 overtime win over Avondale last week. Bloomfield Hills won 54-28 over Troy last week. This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams that have different styles.

WATERFORD KETTERING at WATERFORD MOTT: The Battle of Waterford is back in the OAA after both schools left the OAA in 2008. Both teams are struggling. The Corsairs have played a tough Blue schedule which seen them at 1-4 while the Captains went 1-4 in the Gold. Waterford Mott is in the postseason conversation in Division Three. If Waterford Kettering wants to make a statement and take their city rivals out of the postseason, this is there chance to do so.

Boys Soccer Districts.

Written Sunday October 4th at 9:11 AM

Here are the Boys Soccer Districts. Anthony Taormina and myself will give our thoughts on these district matchups. This will be updated with Ant's thoughts.

District 5 at Grand Blanc

4. Flushing vs. 5. DAVISON

2. Saginaw Heritage vs. 7. OXFORD

3. Midland Dow vs. 6. Lapeer

Flushing/DAVISON vs. 1. GRAND BLANC

SAM THOUGHTS: This is looking like it will be an interesting district. I like where Oxford is despite getting a seven seed and going against Saginaw Heritage. The Wildcats have played a much tougher schedule than anyone in the Saginaw Valley League. Oxford looks prime to have a deep postseason run and possibly get to the district final where they could see Grand Blanc. The Bobcats barring any upset should get to the district finals.

ANT THOUGHTS: Grand Blanc looks to be the favorite, but Oxford may be the most dangerous. Can see the Wildcats get by Heritage then Flushing or Davison. The benefits of playing teams like Troy, Troy Athens, Seaholm, and Clarkston will help Oxford when it comes to this district. Only Grand Blanc is a little more or a little less tested than Oxford. Grand Blanc is favored but don't be surprised if Oxford gets out of it too.

District 6 at Clarkston

4. BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs. 5. Birmingham Brother Rice

2. Lakeland vs. 7. Walled Lake Central

3. Walled Lake Northern vs. 6. WEST BLOOMFIELD

BLOOMFIELD HILLS/Birmingham Brother Rice vs. 1. CLARKSTON

SAM THOUGHTS: The Wolves have home field and they have a favorable draw in the district. They know Bloomfield Hills well pending if they get by Birmingham Brother Rice. Clarkston should have no issue winning this district although Lakeland could give them a challenge. Home field and familiarly favors the Wolves in this district.

ANT THOUGHTS: This district really is all Clarkston's to lose. Home field and familiarity are big advantages the Wolves have. Yes, Brother Rice faces the like of Catholic Central but Clarkston is more battle tested facing life in the OAA Red. Clarkston should come out of this district.

District 7 at North Farmington

4. Walled Lake Western vs. 5. North Farmington

2. Livonia Stevenson vs. 7. SOUTHFIELD ARTS AND TECHNOLOGY

3. NOVI vs. 6. Farmington

Walled Lake Western/North Farmington vs. 1. NORTHVILLE

SAM THOUGHTS: This is an interesting district. Northville stands out but it's possible we could see a Northville/Novi district final pending if the Wildcats get by Livonia Stevenson. It's going to be tough for Southfield Arts and Tech in this district. It looks like with the Mustangs and Wildcats coming into the OAA next season Boys Soccer will be much stronger in the league.

ANT THOUGHTS: We are looking at a preview of what life will be in the OAA next year when Northville and Novi enter the OAA, most likely landing in the OAA Red. Livonia Stevenson has had a great season in their first year in the Lakes Valley. The Novi/Livonia Stevenson likely semifinal matchup will be interesting (Stevenson won their regular season matchup 3-2). Northville got the better draw and should be the favorite coming out of the district.

District 13 at Troy

4. TROY ATHENS vs. 5. ROYAL OAK

2. SEAHOLM vs. 7. Detroit Renaissance

3. BERKLEY vs. 6. GROVES

TROY ATHENS/ROYAL OAK vs. 1. TROY

SAM THOUGHTS: Imagine Troy vs Troy Athens in a district semifinal, that is possible, both teams tied 1-1 when they played. Royal Oak is not an easy matchup for the Red Hawks. Seaholm and Berkley could be an interesting district semifinal. This district sees four teams maybe five teams having a shot in this really tough district.

ANT THOUGHTS: This district is always a very tough district. Four OAA Red giants' year in and out. Troy, Seaholm, Berkley, and Athens. All four are more than capable of winning the district and quite possibly the state championship. A lot of times the state champion has come out of this district. Royal Oak and Groves have also had solid seasons in the White which makes this district very competitive and interesting. Troy is the favorite, they have home field, has been ranked one of the top teams in the state of Michigan and even nationally but you can't underestimate a very experienced Seaholm, a very hungry Berkley, and rival Troy Athens. Not counting Royal Oak and Groves, both of whom can play spoiler.

District 16 at Romeo

4. Romeo vs. 5. STONEY CREEK

2. ADAMS vs. 7. Utica

3. ROCHESTER vs. 6. LAKE ORION

STONEY CREEK/Romeo vs. 1. Utica Eisenhower

SAM THOUGHTS: Utica Eisenhower has had a really strong season and looks primed for a deep postseason run. I look at this district and say Lake Orion could make a run to the district final despite their goal scoring issues. They fell 2-0 to Rochester earlier in the season and tied Adams 1-1. Stoney Creek and Romeo are very interesting with the winner getting Utica Eisenhower in the district semifinals. This is anyone's district to take.

ANT THOUGHTS: Once again, this district is going to be challenging. Utica Eisenhower should be the favorite, but you can never count out either Adams or Romeo. Adams has benefitted from being down in the White for a year and should move back up to the Red. Adams may come out the winner since Ike and Romeo may possibly see each other in the semifinals and has far easier matchups going into the championship game. Ike is the favorite but don't count Adams out by a longshot.

District 28 at Waterford Mott

4. AVONDALE vs. 5. Holly

2. PONTIAC vs. 7. WATERFORD MOTT

3. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood vs. 6. WATERFORD KETTERING

AVONDALE/Holly vs. 1. Orchard Lake St. Mary's

SAM THOUGHTS: This could be a very interesting district. Orchard Lake St. Marys is the early favorite, but Avondale or Holly could give them fits in the district semifinals. Pontiac and Waterford Mott are a very interesting first round matchup. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood vs Waterford Kettering is also very interesting. This should be a very interesting district to see.

ANT THOUGHTS: With this district it can go anyway. A lot of tremendous matchups that could spell upset all over. Avondale/Holly, Pontiac/Mott, and Cranbrook/Kettering are very intriguing matchups. All of which can go either way. Pontiac has had a very strong year and has competed against Bloomfield Hills and OLSM. The Eaglets are the early favorite but anyone can come out of this district.

District 30 at Hamtramck

1. Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit vs. 8. OAK PARK

4. FERNDALE vs. 5. Center Line

2. Hamtramck Oakland International Academy vs. 7. Warren Fitzgerald

3. Hamtramck vs. 6. Madison Heights Lamphere

SAM THOUGHTS: Ferndale might have a shot to make some noise in this district if they can get past New Haven but Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit is a tough matchup for anyone. Hamtramck Oakland International Academy and Hamtramck should be an interesting game pending if they win their respective first round matchups. The Cubs are the early favorite to win this district.

ANT THOUGHTS: The Cubs are the early favorite and should be after tying Brother Rice and powerhouse Detroit Catholic Central but don't be surprised if Ferndale gives them a challenge. Ferndale won the OAA Blue this season and can play against anyone. Ferndale has to get by Center Line who is solid as well. U-D Jesuit is the favorite and will probably get out of this district.

District 45 at Clawson

4. Marine City Cardinal Mooney vs. 5. New Haven

2. Hazel Park vs. 7. Algonac

3. Richmond vs. 6. CLAWSON

Marine City Cardinal Mooney/New Haven vs. 1. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep

SAM THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting district. Pontiac Notre Dame Prep is the favorite to win this district but don't count out Clawson, they have home field despite having an interesting first round game with Richmond and if they win that they could see Hazel Park. It will be very interesting to see but I feel six teams have a chance to win this district.

ANT THOUGHTS: Notre Dame Prep is one of the best teams in Division 2 and for good reason. Hazel Park may give the Fighting Irish a challenge, but this district is really Notre Dame Prep's district to lose.
