The regionals are done and the final week of the season is here.
Clarkston fell 52-46 to Novi Detroit Catholic Central at Lake Orion in the Division One regional finals on Wednesday night. The Wolves won 14 games this season and added another district title to the historic halls of Clarkston High School. They lose seven seniors including their three top scorers in Keegan Wasilk, Zach Austin, and Nate Steinman to graduation. Clarkston has three returners in Cavanaugh Diton, Brandon Wiley, and Brody Kosin and that’s not mentioning a healthy Desman Stephens whom is also coming back as well. The Wolves will be just fine. They have to find more scoring especially on the guard front and build on some depth for Coach Tim Wasilk.
Ferndale continues their path in the Division Two regional finals. The Eagles beat Detroit Pershing 85-61 on Wednesday night on their home floor. Jason Drake and Treyvon Lewis have led the Ferndale charge for Coach Juan Rickman but they have had others that have stepped up as well to take the burden off of Drake and Lewis. The Eagles will have a very interesting State Quarterfinal matchup with Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on Tuesday at St. Clair Community College. The Fighting Irish are no strangers to playing OAA schools. They have three wins over Lake Orion, Adams, and Rochester this season. If Ferndale wants to get to the Breslin Center they need to get by a very good Pontiac Notre Dame Prep squad in the State Quarterfinals and if they do that then a possible rematch with Grand Rapids Catholic Central could loom in the State Semifinals pending if both teams win their respective games.
