The North Farmington Raiders are back in the Division One State title game for the first time in eight years.
The Raiders fell 69-49 to Detroit University Jesuit in that matchup. Now they get to play another Catholic League power for all the marbles.
They will have a really daunting matchup ahead of them as they will play Orchard Lake St. Marys in the Division One State finals on Saturday afternoon at the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State. Odd to believe that North Farmington and Orchard Lake St. Marys are separated by seven miles and two roundabouts.
It's also a rematch of a 56-44 Orchard Lake St. Marys win over North Farmington in the regional final at Troy in a very controversial game which involved very screwy officiating last season. These same two teams played in a regional semifinal two years ago which the Eaglets won 46-44 two years ago.
The Eaglets have a very deep team under coach Todd Covert. Orchard Lake St. Marys has Daniel Symthe, Sharod Barnes, Jaden Savoury, Isiah Hines, Geno Seets, Peyton Kemp, Andrew Smith, Mason Wisniewski, and Trey McKinney. They are coming off an 82-42 blowout of Ann Arbor Huron in the Division One State Semifinals. McKinney and Smythe combined for 38 points in their game.
The Raiders have their fair share of depth with Tyler Spratt, Landon Williams, Ari Melster, Vinnie Lee, and Dylan Smith for Coach Todd Negoshian among others. North Farmington is coming off a strong 58-39 win over Zeeland West in the Division One State Semifinals. The Raiders defense held Indiana State commit Merrick Alderick to nine points while Spratt and Williams combined for 30 points against the Dux.
North Farmington fans, players, and coaches remember the two losses to Orchard Lake St. Marys really well. This could be that chance to exorcise all of the demons that have haunted the Raiders.
