Week Six Thoughts.

Written Saturday October 5th at 2:20 PM

West Bloomfield: The Lakers needed a big win and got it by exploding for 35 points in the second half to stun Lake Orion 49-41 on Friday night in the Swamp. Kameron Flowers and Elijah Durham had big touchdowns and Josh Tate had a solid game. Beau Jackson played well for West Bloomfield which saved their postseason dreams. The Lakers have Oxford looming next week.

Lake Orion: The Dragons had a defensive disaster on Friday night in the Swamp. The defense allowed 35 points in the second half which resulted in a stunning 49-41 loss to West Bloomfield. Lake Orion had a 28-14 lead at one point but the Lakers stepped up forcing two turnovers. The defense is a big concern especially heading into their homecoming with Clarkston looming next week.

Clarkston: The Wolves had no issues with Troy Athens winning 36-7 on Friday night. Clarkston was in control throughout and got to play their backups as well leading 34-0 at halftime. The Wolves have Lake Orion looming next week.

Adams: The Highlanders basically got screwed on Friday night at Oxford falling 18-17 after leading 17-6 in the fourth quarter. The play was a catch from Jack Hendrix to Jake Champagne for a touchdown with 21 seconds left in the game. The referee on the corner ruled it incomplete but the referee next to him ruled it a touchdown sending Adams to their second straight loss. Nolan Farris added a touchdown for the Highlanders. Adams finishes league play at 2-2 and has Stoney Creek looming next week.

Oxford: The Wildcats came from 17-6 down to stun Adams 18-17 on Friday night. Jay Cady had two field goals while Jack Hendrix had a very good game throwing two touchdown passes, one to Luke Johnson and the other to Jake Champagne which ended up being the winner for Oxford. The officials ruled that Champagne’s left foot touched the yellow where he tip toed the end zone with his right foot. The defense played well in battling back including an interception from Eli Carpenter. The Wildcats have a tall task awaiting them heading to the Swamp to play West Bloomfield next week.

Harper Woods: The Pioneers got a huge 49-6 win over Southfield Arts and Tech to send its record to 3-3 on the year. Harper Woods defense shut down Southfield Arts and Tech’s offense while putting up 49 points which is the most they have scored this season. They have Rochester looming next week.

Groves: The Falcons had no issues with South Lyon winning 35-0 on Friday night. Groves got touchdowns from their defense, special teams, and their offense. Ryan Counts had another solid game for the Falcons. Groves has Southfield Arts and Tech looming next week.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars are suddenly hot after winning two straight games including an emotional 22-21 overtime win over Rochester on Friday night. Sam Fogler got the winning two point conversion for Stoney Creek which has been peaking since their tough 28-21 loss to Harper Woods a few weeks ago. The Cougars could be in the postseason conversation after this win. They have Rochester looming next week.

Rochester: The Falcons postseason hopes took a huge hit after falling 22-21 in overtime to Stoney Creek on Friday night. Rochester was tied with Stoney Creek 7-7 entering the fourth quarter but the Cougars went for two and got it. Jack Lower had a rushing touchdown in the game. The Falcons postseason hopes took a hit but they can find a way to get back into the mix if they can beat Harper Woods next week.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors had another rough night falling 49-6 to Harper Woods on Friday night. Southfield Arts and Tech has scored only 20 points in league play which is a big problem. They have Groves looming next week.

Farmington: The Falcons had a huge 35-7 win over Bloomfield Hills on Friday night. Farmington got a very strong offensive performance after having losses to Seaholm and North Farmington. Anthony Bailey and Herschel McCormick have become stars for the Falcons during this stretch. They have a big one with Troy looming next week.

North Farmington: The Raiders had to survive Oak Park in Knight Valley winning 19-18 on Friday night. North Farmington has put it together since their 0-2 start winning four straight games. They have Seaholm looming next week.

Oak Park: The Knights had chances in their game against North Farmington but couldn’t come through as they fell 19-18 to the Raiders. Oak Park sits at 2-4 likely needing to win out to make the postseason. They have a really interesting matchup with Lapeer looming next week.

Troy: The Colts had an offensive meltdown and the defense struggled in a stunning 38-7 loss to Seaholm on Friday night. The defense struggled with the veer offense but the Seaholm defense shut down Noah Oury and Jaiden Peacock which was stunning. The Colts sit at 3-3 with Farmington looming next week.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks had a rough night against Clarkston falling 36-7 on Friday night. The Wolves had a 36-0 lead and never looked back. Troy Athens is in a rough patch especially defensively. They have Bloomfield Hills looming next week.

Seaholm: The Maples were really impressive in a 38-7 win over Troy on Friday night clinching a share of the Blue in the process. The veer showed its magic in shutting down the Colts offense and thus putting 38 points on a really good defense. The Maples have North Farmington looming next week.

Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks had a really tough 35-7 loss to Farmington on Friday night. Bloomfield Hills is still giving up a ton of points but they have been scoring which is a positive. Peyton Parsons has been a bright spot for the Blackhawks at wide receiver while Evan Becker has been solid at quarterback. They have Troy Athens looming next week.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets had an impressive 41 points in a 41-3 blowout of Royal Oak on Friday night. The defense was solid all night shutting down the Ravens offense while putting up points themselves. They have Berkley looming next week.

Ferndale: The Eagles bounced back after their tough loss to Avondale last week with an impressive 37-0 win over Pontiac on Friday night. Ferndale likely needs to win out if they want to make the postseason. They have a golden opportunity awaiting them as they head back to Pontiac but to play Pontiac Notre Dame Prep next week.

Berkley: The Bears lack of the defense really hurt them in their loss to Jackson Northwest. The Mounties were the most physical and disciplined team than Berkley. The offensive identity was an issue as well for the Bears despite Ben Bullock has a solid game. It’s a tough loss for Berkley who has a really tough matchup with Avondale looming next week.

Royal Oak: The Ravens had a tough 41-3 loss to Avondale on Friday night. Royal Oak was shut down by Avondale’s defense while the offense put 41 on them which is the most they allowed this season. The Ravens have Pontiac looming next week.

Pontiac: The Phoenix had a tough 37-0 loss to Ferndale on Friday night. Pontiac is really struggling right now and the schedule doesn’t get any easier with Royal Oak looming next week along with Harper Woods and Detroit Lincoln King to close the season. It’s going to be very tough for the Phoenix.
