Volleyball has seen some big time shockers in the district round so here are the matchups and insight.
Division Two
Region 14 @ Detroit Lincoln King Academy
FERNDALE vs Detroit Voyaguer
Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy vs Detroit Lincoln King Academy
THOUGHTS: This could be the Eagles best chance to win this regional. This is a wide open regional that anyone could win. Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy looks to be the favorite but playing Detroit Lincoln King Academy on their home floor is going to be tough. Ferndale should get to the regional final if they can get by Detroit Voyaguer but it will be tough if its Detroit Lincoln King Academy or Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy.
Division One
Region Seven @ Birmingham Marian
BLOOMFIELD HILLS vs Grosse Pointe South
GROVES vs St. Clair Shores Lakeview
THOUGHTS: The Black Hawks rode their star player in Kayla Nwabueze who likely will be Miss Volleyball in the State for what she did in winning the Red and upsetting Birmingham Marian in the district finals in four sets. This regional looks very manageable for Bloomfield Hills. Groves really wasn't tested in their district. St. Clair Shores Lakeview is coming off their first ever district crown winning over Warren Woods Tower. Grosse Pointe South is solid this season. This regional looks like this is the Black Hawks to lose.
Region Eight @ Clarkston
OXFORD vs Chippewa Valley
Romeo vs Macomb Dakota
THOUGHTS: Who would had ever thought that Oxford would be the team that would be here and not Clarkston or Lake Orion??? The Wildcats used their home crowd and emotion to stun both state powerhouses in five sets to win their first district crown since 2002. Romeo is coming off an upset five set win over Utica Eisenhower to get to this round. Macomb Dakota is coming off an off year but found a way to win their district which included upset wins over Port Huron and Macomb Lutheran North. Chippewa Valley is coming off their first district crown winning over Utica since 2014. This regional looks wide open but the Bulldogs are the favorite to come out of this regional but the Wildcats might have a say if they keep playing like they are thus far.
