The Cougars have their new girls basketball coach.

Stoney Creek has named Anne Hetzel as their new girls basketball coach. Hetzel takes over for Columbus Williams who was let go after the Rochester game during the season.

"Big news from the Creek, Stoney Creek Athletics is excited to announce Annw Hetzel as the head coach of the Women's Basketball program. Coach Hetzel brings tremendous passion, leadership and commitment to student-athletes, we are excited for the future of Stoney Creek Women's Basketball under her direction" said Athletic Director Todd Negoshian in a statement.

Negoshian took over the program after letting Williams and most of his assistants go before the postseason. He led them to the district finals falling 44-34 to Utica Eisenhower last season.

Hetzel is the 13th leading scorer at Oakland in their history. She played from 2002-2006 under Coach Becky Francis and was an assistant as for then Coach Jeff Tungate. Hetzel brings a different component to the program.

The Cougars are in the Red with Clarkston, Oxford, West Bloomfield, Rochester, and Groves. They have program strength concerns despite having Calista Ivezaj and Samantha Fulkerson coming back.

It will be very interesting to see how Hetzel handles this program especially with everything they have gone through.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.

Davison and Grand Blanc would be great fits for the OAA.
