Week Two Thoughts.

West Bloomfield: The Lakers had no troubles with Harper Woods on Friday night in the Swamp winning 33-14. Kenny Jones went over 100 yards and had a touchdown in the game. West Bloomfield has Stoney Creek looming next week.

Adams: The Highlanders earned their 25th straight win over Rochester 34-18 on Thursday night. Adams dominated the Falcons on the ground all night. The Highlanders have a big one looming with Clarkston next week.

Clarkston: The Wolves offense showed up in a big way in a shootout against Southfield Arts and Tech on Thursday night. Clarkston needed a late touchdown from Mike Helm and an interception by Desman Stephens to seal a 62-56 victory over the Warriors. Could this save their season??? Maybe. The defense is still a huge problem for Clarkston and it gets tougher from here. They have Adams looming next week.

Lake Orion: The Dragons might have found their quarterback in Tristian Hill. Hill accounted for three touchdowns in a 45-15 victory over Oak Park on Thursday night. Lake Orion also had 399 yards on the ground. The Dragons have Oxford looming next week.

Stoney Creek: The Cougars earned their second win of the season on Thursday night winning 42-7 over Bloomfield Hills. We will know a lot about Stoney Creek when they play West Bloomfield next week in the Dutton Farms game.

Oxford: The Wildcats earned a huge 17-14 win over Groves on Friday night giving them their first win of the season. Logan Johnson had the winning score late. Dominic Cassisse has really settled in at quarterback. Oxford has Lake Orion looming next week.

Southfield Arts and Tech: The Warriors have one of the three phases figured out which is their offense. The offense put up 56 points for the second straight week against a very good Clarkston squad but their defense has been a complete disaster. They allowed 116 points which included 62 points in two straight weeks. That’s not a good thing. If Southfield Arts and Tech wants to turn things around they need their defense. They have Harper Woods looming next week.

Harper Woods: It was a tough night for the Pioneers against West Bloomfield on Friday night. Harper Woods fell 33-14 in the game. The Pioneers should be fine going forward. They have Southfield Arts and Tech looming next week.

Groves: The Falcons found their ground attack but it wasn't meant to be in a 17-14 loss to Oxford on Friday night. Groves needs more from their passing attack to balance the rushing attack. They have Oak Park looming next week.

Rochester: It was going to be a tough game for the Falcons in their Falcon Frenzy game against Adams on Thursday night. The Falcons were outgained badly by Adams which saw them extend their winning streak to 25 over Rochester in a 34-18 win. The Falcons are in a tough spot, they have Bloomfield Hills looming next week.

Bloomfield Hills: The Blackhawks have really struggled lately, 28 points in two games is decent but the defense has been the problem allowing 70 points in two games (30 ppg) in a stunning 42-7 blowout to Stoney Creek. Bloomfield Hills needs to figure some things out and quickly next week against Rochester.

Oak Park: It was a tough night for the Knights on Thursday night against Lake Orion. Oak Park fell 45-15 to the Dragons. The Knights allowed 399 rushing yards on the night. Oak Park has traditionally gotten better week to week. They have Groves looming next week.

Seaholm: The Maples sent a statement against a very proven Catholic League program. Seaholm beat Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit 21-20 in front of the Maple Forest on Thursday night. The Maples are making a strong case in the Blue and beating the Cubs is a huge statement going forward. Seaholm has Avondale looming next week.

North Farmington: I was more disappointed in the Raiders defense on Friday night against Caledonia in a 68-14 loss. Caledonia is a very good team don't get me wrong but North Farmington really struggled defensively. Even if Ryan Shelby comes back, that defense needs to be addressed. The Raiders have Troy looming next week.

Farmington: The Falcons went right back to the basics and bounced back. They beat Royal Oak 44-0 on Thursday night. Farmington should be fine going forward if they can keep improving week to week. They have a big one looming with Troy Athens next week.

Troy:  I wasn’t really impressed with the Colts on Thursday night despite winning 17-0 over Detroit Mumford. Troy really hasn’t been flashy or impressive in the last two weeks but they have gotten the job done. They will be tested next week when they play North Farmington. This should be the eye ball test to watch.

Troy Athens: The Red Hawks are off to a nice start after a 42-6 shocker against Berkley on Thursday night. Troy Athens is rolling right now and that’s a great sign for Coach Tom Cook and company. They have Farmington looming next week.

Berkley: I did not expect this start for the Bears with them allowing 89 points in the first two games and a 42-6 loss to Troy Athens on Thursday night. Something is seriously wrong with Berkley. They have Pontiac next week at Hurley Field.

Avondale: The Yellow Jackets took a very tough loss to Holly on Thursday night 29-22 at Dick Bye Field. Avondale will be fine despite the loss. The Yellow Jackets have Seaholm looming next week.

Royal Oak: 93 points allowed in two games that’s rough. The Ravens fell 44-0 at home to Farmington on Thursday night. Royal Oak has really struggled in the last two games. They have Ferndale looming next week.

Pontiac: The Phoenix had another rough loss on Thursday night against Mount Clemens where they fell 22-6 at home. Pontiac heads to Hurley Field next week to take on Berkley.

Ferndale: I’m going to give a pass to Ferndale in this one. It was going to be tough for the Eagles against proven powerhouse in Grand Rapids West Catholic on Thursday night. The Falcons won 43-0 over Ferndale. The Eagles have to put this one right behind them and focus on Royal Oak next week.
