STATEMENT WIN: Seaholm. Anytime you beat a Catholic League opponent it’s a huge deal. The Maples have doubled their win total from last season after stunning Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit 21-20 at the Maple Forest. Seaholm is rolling early and winning a game like this is a confidence booster for sure for Coach Jim DeWald and company. The Maples are in a really good spot right now.

TOUGH LOSS: Avondale: The Yellow Jackets had a ton of chances in their game with Holly on Thursday night but it was the Bronchos that earned a 29-22 road win in Auburn Hills. Holly is a very good team. Avondale should be fine going forward.

WHAT HAPPENED???: Berkley. Where are the REAL Bears??? I don’t know which team I’m seeing with a program with high expectations. It’s very unusual to see Berkley allow 89 points in the last two games which included a stunning 42-6 blowout loss to Troy Athens. If I’m Coach Sean Shields I need to think of something to get this team fixed and quickly, if not then things could turn into a tailspin like it has right now.

TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Southfield Arts and Tech. The Warriors have one of the three phases figured out. They scored 56 points in each of their last two games but their defense has been a big problem. If Southfield Arts and Tech wants to win games they will need their defense to step up. I know they like shootouts but sometimes that can backfire like what happened against Clarkston when they allowed 62 points. The Warriors are in a very interesting spot to say the least.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Royal Oak. 93 points in two straight games, that’s not good. The Ravens fell 44-0 to Farmington on Thursday night. Royal Oak needs to find some offense in a hurry or this season could turn south real quick.
