Clarkston vs Caledonia at DeWitt: This will be the first ever meeting between the Wolves and the Fighting Scotts. Clarkston is coming off an emotional 36-33 victory over Adams behind the incredible performance of Desman Stephens where he ran a kickoff return, threw for a passing score, and caught the winning touchdown all in the same game. They have some questions at quarterback. It is likely that Mike Hein will be back for this game even though Steven Kossak is a more than a capable quarterback. Also the Wolves have a player name Ethan Clark which should be the toughest running back that Caledonia has seen this season. The Fighting Scotts has taken on an OAA school when they went to Ron Holland Field and beat North Farmington 68-14 in week two. The Fighting Scotts also have postseason wins over Grand Ledge and Rockford. Caledonia has quarterback Mason McKenzie along with a young skill set in running back Brock Townsend (also plays in the defensive secondary) and a proven receiving core in tight end Derrick Pennington. McKenzie is a duel threat quarterback. He had two rushing touchdowns against Grand Ledge plus the winning touchdown and two point conversion against Rockford. Townsend also added two touchdowns against the Comets last week. The weather conditions will be very difficult with the cold weather, wind, and snow on the ground and some lake effect snow possible during the day. This should be a great test for the Wolves playing at a neutral site in DeWitt.
SANDY DUNES: CLARKSTON 49, CALEDONIA 35.
BURNEY: CLARKSTON 33, CALEDONIA 23.
DUNLAP: CLARKSTON 35, CALEDONIA 34.
TIM: CLARKSTON 42, CALEDONIA 21.
STICK: CLARKSTON over CALEDONIA.
COTTER: CLARKSTON 42, CALEDONIA 40.
Groves vs Warren DeLaSalle at Troy Athens: This will be the toughest game for the Falcons all season and that not the weather which is going to be very cold and windy. They are taking on the defending Division Two State Champions at Troy Athens which should be a familiar place for Groves. The Falcons have been riding their running back Josh Woods in the postseason. Woods has had big games against Seaholm and Livonia Franklin in the last two weeks. They will need everyone from quarterback Cayden Hardy, lineman Avery Gach, wide receiver Zach Rogers, and company against a very good Pilots program if they want to pull off what would be a gigantic upset. Warren DeLaSalle is led by quarterback Brady Drogosh. Drogosh is a duel threat quarterback. He has proven playmakers in wide receivers Jamari Allen, Tristian Nichols, good running back in Brent Roeser, and a very good offensive line. The defense is also very solid with Warren DeLaSalle led by defensive end Matt Murgain whom is an Illinois commit. The Pilots only loss this season came against Birmingham Brother Rice when the Warriors beat Warren DeLaSalle 43-42 at Wayne State last month. The Pilots really haven’t been tested since their loss to Birmingham Brother Rice. It will be a huge test for the Falcons for sure in this game.
SANDY DUNES: WARREN DELASALLE 38, GROVES 28.
BURNEY: WARREN DELASALLE 28, GROVES 22.
DUNLAP: WARREN DELASALLE 42, GROVES 7.
TIM: WARREN DELASALLE 63, GROVES 14.
STICK: WARREN DELASALLE over GROVES.
COTTER: WARREN DELASALLE 49, GROVES 7.
Games that impact OAA Teams
Detroit Cass Tech vs Belleville at Novi: This is what you call the Jermaine Crowell Bowl. Crowell is the head coach at Belleville. He used to be the defensive coordinator at Detroit Cass Tech. The Technicians have arguably have had the toughest road in the State to get to this game. They beat West Bloomfield, Southfield Arts and Tech, and Macomb Dakota on the road. The Tigers have been dominant on their way to this game. It should be very interesting and it’s a Friday night game as well.
SANDY DUNES: DETROIT CASS TECH 38, BELLEVILLE 30.
BURNEY: DETROIT CASS TECH 31, BELLEVILLE 29.
DUNLAP: BELLEVILLE 42, DETROIT CASS TECH 40.
TIM: BELLEVILLE 49, DETROIT CASS TECH 35.
STICK: BELLEVILLE over DETROIT CASS TECH.
COTTER: BELLEVILLE 28, DETROIT CASS TECH 21.
Eight man Finals
Merrill vs Martin: This should be a very interesting matchup of two high scoring teams. Martin has been dominating this postseason by outscoring their opponents 166-28 in the postseason. It will be very interesting to see if they will be tested in this game. Merrill has been dominant in their two previous games but they were tested in the semifinals by beating Munising 22-20 last week. It should be a very interesting matchup between these two teams.
SANDY DUNES: MARTIN 42, MERRILL 39.
BURNEY: MERRILL 48, MARTIN 44.
DUNLAP: MERRILL 17, MARTIN 14.
TIM: MARTIN 52, MERRILL 45.
STICK: MARTIN over MERRILL.
COTTER: MERRILL 42, MARTIN 21.
Powers North Central vs Mendon: This should be a very interesting matchup of two teams that has proven championship history. Mendon has been up there before. They have also been battle tested. Mendon beat Colon 46-44 in the semifinals. Powers North Central has really been dominant all season. They have outscored their opponents by a combined 135-24 in the postseason. It should be a very interesting matchup between these two teams.
SANDY DUNES: POWERS NORTH CENTRAL 56, MENDON 42.
BURNEY: POWERS NORTH CENTRAL 45, MENDON 37.
DUNLAP: MENDON 24, POWERS NORTH CENTRAL 21.
TIM: POWERS NORTH CENTRAL 52, MENDON 3.
STICK: POWERS NORTH CENTRAL over MENDON.
COTTER: POWERS NORTH CENTRAL 42, MENDON 12.
