WEST BLOOMFIELD vs Utica Henry Ford II
This is shaping up to be a really interesting State Quarterfinal.
The Lakers are back in the Division One State Quarterfinal for the fifth straight year.
West Bloomfield will play Utica Ford II in the Division One State Quarterfinal at Callahan Hall at Detroit Mercy on Tuesday with the winner likely to see Rockford in the Division One State Semifinals at Michigan State on Friday.
The Falcons have been really dominant especially defensively in the postseason. Besides the 45-43 upset loss to Troy, Utica Ford II has really clamped it's defense down limiting a pretty good Warren Cousino squad to 24 points in the regional final which was their first crown in 40 years.
Utica Ford II plays in the Macomb Area Conference Red Division and has a proven player in Anayya Davis, their small forward. Davis has usually played her best basketball against good teams. She had 29 points against Macomb Dakota and 30 points against Fraser. Another player to watch is Tyra Wright, the team's two guard. She has the most threes in Utica Ford II history and had 12 points against Macomb Dakota and 26 points on a school record eight threes against Sterling Heights Stevenson. The other to watch is Claire O'Brien, their power forward. She had 16 points against Macomb Dakota and 18 points against Fraser. They are well coached under legendary Coach Matt Joseph.
West Bloomfield has their fair share of proven players as well starting with Sheridan Beal. Beal had 18 points against Clarkston with 11 coming in the first half in their 47-42 win over the Wolves in the regional finals. The Lakers also have a win over Orchard Lake St. Marys 41-36 in the district finals behind a strong defensive effort with proven players besides Beal in London Hall who has been solid this postseason in the post along with the Gamble-Jones sisters (Briella and Breasia) and also Ava Lord has had moments for Coach Darin McAllister.
This should be a really interesting game between two teams that don't know each other quite well but they will get to know one another starting next week.
