Written Wednesday March 12th at 2:20 PM

Waterford Kettering will have a new boys basketball coach when they enter the OAA next season.

Coach Steve Emert stepped down a few weeks ago. Waterford Kettering athletic director Shane Hynes confirmed the news at the OAA coaches basketball meeting and to me on X.

Emert went 9-81 in his four years with the Captains which also went 2-44 in the last two years.

Emert has been around the basketball world. He coached at Walled Lake Western (Girls), Walled Lake Central (Boys), and Waterford Kettering (Boys.) Emert has been known around the OAA for coaching at Oxford for the girls program.

Whoever the new coach is will have some proven experience in Jordan Jarrell, Gustas Garbenis, Haiden Bigelow, Braycen Harrington, Dylan Hamel, Josh Wagner, Jessie Redick, Brycen Land, Jack Buczek and Katim Jallow coming back for next season.

There were 26 coaches that applied for the coaching job with a likely hire in early April according to Hynes.

Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
