This was a shocker and then it wasn't.
Royal Oak Shrine had originally named Marko Tomich as their new boys basketball coach but Tomich had a change of heart and is instead returning to Stoney Creek. Royal Oak Shrine has since named Dan Boylan their new head coach according to the D-Zone.
Stoney Creek Athletic Director Todd Negoshian confirmed Tomich's departure to me via text message along with another very accurate source who confirmed that Tomich was heading back to Royal Oak Shrine however both sources confirmed that Tomich was back in the program.
Tomich is very familiar with the Catholic League being at Birmingham Brother Rice and was an assistant under Coach Mike Maryanski at Royal Oak Shrine before coming to Stoney Creek.
Tomich took over the program from Jeff Olind in 2025. Olind went 19-47 in his three years with the program. He went 11-11 (12-12) in his only season with the Cougars. He led them to an 82-40 win over Romeo in the first round but fell 36-29 to Adams in the district semifinals.
Tomich will have Anthony Arlinghaus, Ernie Backos, Brosie Telegadas, Issac Papus, among others coming back. Program strength will be very interesting to keep an eye on.
Stoney Creek will be in the White with Bloomfield Hills, Rochester, Waterford Mott, Oxford, and Lake Orion next season.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
