Ferndale University 68, Detroit Fredrick Douglass 43.
This might be the most complete game that I have seen an Eagles squad dominate since they joined the OAA last season. Ferndale University used a strong second half against Detroit Fredrick Douglass at Detroit Cass Tech on Monday morning winning 68-43 in the Detroit Public School League Holiday Classic. The Eagles outscored the Hurricanes 40-15 in the second half to get the win. Coach Josh Nicks has done a wonderful job with Ferndale University in his first season. It always helps when they have experience coming back. It’s a great win for the Eagles and a confidence booster heading into the New Year.
Detroit Renaissance 64, Bloomfield Hills 58.
The Blackhawks were a last minute replacement for Utica after they had to bow out of the Motor City Roundball Classic. Bloomfield Hills was supposed to play Utica but the game got cancelled which gave them the opportunity to play in this game at Ferndale. This game proved to be a classic back and fourth game but it was the Phoenix that found a way and gave the Blackhawks their first loss of the season 64-58 on Monday afternoon. Noah Adamcyzk had 24 points and Derrick Lee added 18 points in the loss. Bloomfield Hills has another tough matchup looming on Thursday in the Motor City Roundball Classic when they play Novi Detroit Catholic Central.
Ferndale 90, Port Huron Northern 44.
Well it wasn’t Grand Blanc that the Eagles were supposed to play on Monday night. The Bobcats had to pull out of the Motor City Roundball because of COVID-19 protocol. There was a ton of reshuffling. Ferndale ended up playing Port Huron Northern on Monday afternoon. It which wasn't the hype that the Grand Blanc game would had gotten but it was a solid opponent for the Eagles in the Huskies. Coach Juan Rickman’s team had no problem with Port Huron Northern winning 90-44 at their home gym in the Motor City Roundball Classic. The Eagles will head west to Grand Rapids on Thursday when they play Orchard Lake St. Marys at Van Andel Arena in a very interesting matchup of two potential State contenders.
Ann Arbor Huron 58, Southfield Arts and Tech 51.
The Warriors were a last minute fill in. Groves had to pull out of the North Farmington Extravaganza because of COVID-19 protocols. Southfield Arts and Tech was supposed to play Walled Lake Northern but with the Falcons pulling out there was a lot of reshuffling that was done. Southfield Arts and Tech original opponent Walled Lake Northern ended up playing Saline while the Warriors ended up playing Ann Arbor Huron on Monday night. The River Rats won 58-51 sending Southfield Arts and Tech to their fourth straight loss. The schedule gets much tougher for the Warriors going forward. They still have to play River Rouge, West Bloomfield, and Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy yet to play before Blue play. The Warriors could be in some trouble heading into the New Year.
Williamston 49, North Farmington 32.
The Raiders came back into action after being out on COVID-19 protocol but it was also going to be a really tough matchup with Williamston on Monday night on their home floor in the North Farmington Extravaganza. The Raiders fell 49-32 to the Hornets. They did not have a good three quarters at all which I think a lot of that is because they just got out of COVID-19 protocols. Also Williamston is a very good team. North Farmington has another tough game with Detroit Loyola looming to close out the North Farmington Extravaganza.
Girls
Northville 65, Southfield Arts and Tech 29.
The Warriors have lost two straight after being a replacement for Farmington whom had to pull out of the Northville Holiday Classic because of COVID-19 protocol. Southfield Arts and Tech fell 65-29 to Northville on Monday night. They will now face Macomb Dakota in the third place game in the classic on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors need to fix a ton of things if they want to turn things around.
