Macomb L’Anse Creuse North 59, North Farmington 32.It was going to be a very difficult matchup for Raiders on Tuesday morning in the Motor City Roundball Classic. North Farmington was blown out 59-32 by Macomb L’Anse Creuse North at Westfield Prep. The Crusaders shut down Sela Lefler and Penelope Creary despite Lefler having 15 points. Brooke Daniels led Macomb L’Anse Creuse North with 24 points. I know that the Crusaders beat Stoney Creek earlier in the year. It’s not a bad score for North Farmington but they were just over matched. They have lost two straight games heading into the New Year.
Marysville 44, Troy 42.
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Colts on Tuesday afternoon. Troy fell 44-42 to Marysville at Westfield Prep. The Colts made some critical mistakes late and the Vikings took advantage. They had a three point lead (42-39) but they turned the ball over and gave up a three point play to tie the game at 42-42. Troy had a chance to win but did not get a good shot off and then fouled Marysville. The Vikings made two free throws which gave them a two point lead late. The Colts had a chance to tie the game late and was fouled in the process but missed the front end of a one and one and the Vikings got the rebound to seal the win. Troy has lost two straight games heading into the New Year. I thank Rusty Zeiter for giving me this recap.
West Bloomfield 65, Brighton 60.
The Lakers came from behind on Tuesday night in the Motor City Roundball Classic after a rough first half. They earned a hard fought win over Brighton 65-60 at Westfield Prep. West Bloomfield trailed by double figures early in the first half and then rallied in the second half making the game into a classic back and forth drama. Myonna Hooper had 19 points for the Lakers whom did not have Indya Davis. West Bloomfield has another game in the Motor City Roundball Classic at Westfield Prep on Thursday when they play Ludington. It should be a very interesting matchup to say the least.
Macomb Dakota 59, Southfield Arts and Tech 27.
The Warriors were a quick add into the Northville Holiday Classic after Farmington dropped out because of COVID-19 protocols. Southfield Arts and Tech fell to 65-29 to Northville on Monday night. They had a really tough matchup with proven powerhouse Macomb Dakota in the third place game on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors were no match falling 59-27 to the Cougars in Northville sending their record to 4-4 on the season. They have lost three straight games all by blowout. It could be a very long year for Coach Shaquita Coltrane if her team can’t step up against very good competition.
Boys
Harper Woods 47, Farmington 42.
The Pioneers won their first game of the season by beating new OAA league member Farmington 47-42 in the North Farmington Extravaganza on Tuesday afternoon. Harper Woods had to come back and beat the Falcons in the game. It's a tough one to take for Coach Derrick McDowell who's team fell to 1-4 on the season. The Falcons have lost two straight games while the Pioneers snapped a three game losing streak. Both teams will be looking for better results heading into the New Year.
Fenton 68, Troy 58.
The Colts had a tough one at North Farmington on Tuesday afternoon against Fenton falling 68-58 in the North Farmington Extravaganza. Troy had their fair share of chances in the game but couldn’t overcome what happened against a good Tigers program. The Colts have lost three straight which is a concern heading into the New Year.
Saginaw Arthur Hill 71, Oak Park 57.
The Knights had a rough outing Tuesday night at the Motor City Roundball Classic. Oak Park fell 71-57 to Saginaw Arthur Hill at Ferndale. The Knights had their struggles with the Lumberjacks suffering their first loss of the season. Oak Park should be fine heading back into league play in the New Year.
Williamston 65, Adams 42.
The Highlanders had a very rough second half on Tuesday night in the Motor City Roundball Classic. Adams fell 65-42 to Williamston. The Hornets played North Farmington on Monday night winning that game 49-32. It is the Highlanders second straight loss at Ferndale. Williamston is a very good team and they proved that against some very good OAA competition. Adams will be fine going forward heading into the New Year.
