It looks like Troy Athens went within with their new varsity football coach.
The Red Hawks named Tom Cook their new varsity football coach confirmed by multiple sources. He replaces Billy Keenest whom left Troy Athens to be the new varsity football coach at Holly.
Cook was an assistant under Keenest at Troy Athens. He has also been an assistant in coaching boys basketball and coached track and field.
Cook is also a teacher at Troy Athens as well.
He will be tasked to get the Red Hawks back into the postseason for the first time since 2011 (2020 doesn’t count.)
Troy Athens is in the Blue with arch rival Troy along with North Farmington, Farmington, and Seaholm. The Red Hawks open the season against Fraser and have non league games with Berkley, Royal Oak, and Utica Ford II to close out the season.
When looking at transition period, I don’t think there will be much change over because Cook is a teacher in the district and was an assistant under Keenest. Program strength will be a challenge though for the Red Hawks.
Troy Athens does have some proven experience that should help Cook in linemen Alex Afhan and Luke Summerall, along with linebacker Jaden Najm, also wide receivers Austin Pokley and Nolan Vivian and running back Anthony Ashor coming back. They have some questions especially at quarterback that they need to address.
It will be very interesting to see how the Red Hawks do this season. They should be a very interesting team to watch.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
