Here is my early insight on the boys basketball regional preview with the semifinals starting on Monday and the finals on Wednesday. Here are the teams that remain and the hurdles they face going forward.
Region 15 @ Ferndale
FERNDALE vs Detroit Henry Ford
HARPER WOODS vs Detroit Pershing
EARLY THOUGHTS: This is looking like it should be a very interesting regional at Ferndale. The Eagles are the favorite being at home and having a ton of experience always helps things. The Red champs have an interesting matchup with Detroit Henry Ford. Ferndale matches them pretty well in this game. On the other side of the bracket there is Harper Woods, the Pioneers are coming off their first season in the OAA with a district crown after not winning the Gold this season. They will face a very good Detroit Pershing squad. The Doughboys are very athletic and experienced as they start five seniors. Harper Woods and Detroit Pershing should be a very interesting matchup with both teams wanting to play fast. This regional is Ferndale’s to lose but it would be very interesting to see an all OAA regional final in this regional.
Region 7 @ Detroit Renaissance
NORTH FARMINGTON vs Orchard Lake St. Marys
Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit vs Hamtramck
EARLY THOUGHTS: This looks to be a very interesting regional that’s taking place in Detroit. The favorite is Orchard Lake St. Marys. The Eaglets made a statement in their district by beating arch rival Birmingham Brother Rice in the district finals. They will have to get by a very good North Farmington program, whom really wasn’t tested in their district. This will be a very tough matchup looming for the Raiders against the Eaglets. On the other side of the bracket there is Detroit University-Detroit Jesuit whom beat Oak Park for the second straight season in the district finals. They play a Hamtramck squad that has a ton of talent. The regional final has a Catholic League rematch written all over it but don’t be surprised if one of them gets upset.
Region 2 @ Lake Orion
CLARKSTON vs ADAMS
Hartland vs Novi Detroit Catholic Central
EARLY THOUGHTS: This is a very interesting regional when looking at these teams at Lake Orion. Adams comes in the most battled tested of the teams even though Clarkston can also make the same case. The Highlanders and Wolves will be a Red rematch in which Adams has beaten Clarkston twice in the regular season and it’s hard to beat a team three times in the same season. Novi Detroit Catholic Central looks to be the early favorite in this regional because of their experience but there are some questions surrounding the Shamrocks. Hartland is playing with house money and could upset Novi Detroit Catholic Central. This regional is wide open when I see it right now.
