Volleyball Regional Preview.

Here is my preview of the regionals that feature OAA schools. There are three schools in Stoney Creek, Clarkston, and Berkley that won district crowns. Here is their early paths in the regionals.

Region 7 @ Birmingham Marian

STONEY CREEK vs Birmingham Marian

Utica Eisenhower vs Macomb Dakota

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is going to be a very tough get for Stoney Creek. The Cougars have a really tough matchup with Birmingham Marian on their home floor to make matters worse in the regional semifinals. The other side of the bracket features a Macomb Area Red matchup between Macomb Dakota and Utica Eisenhower. The Cougars should have no issues with the Eagles. I see this being a Mustangs vs Cougars regional final with Birmingham Marian moving on. Too much experience and being at home matters. PICK: BIRMINGHAM MARIAN.

 

Region 8 @ Lakeland

CLARKSTON vs Lakeland

Davison vs Grand Blanc

EARLY THOUGHTS: This should be a very interesting regional in White Lake. It is a rematch of a district final from last season in the regional semifinals which the Eagles beat the Wolves to make the regionals. I think both teams are better but I see the same result with Lakeland over Clarkston because of home court. I think Grand Blanc edges Davison in the other regional semifinal. I think Lakeland moves past Grand Blanc to the State Quarterfinals because of home court and proven experience. PICK: LAKELAND.

 

Region 6 @ Detroit Renaissance

BERKLEY vs Detroit Cass Tech

Grosse Pointe South vs Warren Woods Tower

EARLY THOUGHTS: This is where the test lies for the Bears. Berkley has a solid chance to make it to the State Quarterfinals. I think they get by Detroit Cass Tech. The Technicians have not played the level of competition that the Bears have in the regional semifinals. It would set the stage for a regional final matchup against Grosse Pointe South pending if they can get by a very good Warren Woods Tower program in the regional semifinals. The Blue Devils have been solid all season long. I see a Berkley/Grosse Pointe South regional final and the Bears finally break through to the State Quarterfinals. PICK: BERKLEY.
