The Wildcats are going in a completely different direction.
Oxford named William Jones as their new girls basketball coach. He replaces Rachel Bryer who stepped down a few months ago.
Jones has been around the State for three decades coaching at different schools. He's most noticeably coached at Trenton from 2014-2018 posting a 67-21 record in his four years coaching the Trojans.
Jones takes over a Oxford program that does not need a rebuild. They have proven players in Allison Hufstedler, Sophia Rabb, Mia Champagne, Emma Buggs, Claire Bruski, Tegan O'Connor, Brynley Cardona, Camryn Quidort, Katelyn Brockway, and Jaylen Jacobsen coming back.
"We are thrilled to have the experience, knowledge, preparation, and positivity he will bring into the program now and into the future, congratulations Coach Jones" which Oxford Athletic Director Tony DeMare said in a statement.
The Wildcats will be in the Red with West Bloomfield, Ferndale, Stoney Creek, Clarkston, and arch rival Lake Orion next season.
Thoughts
I'm very curious and skeptical about this hire, Jones is a true outsider coming into a truly very successful program over the last several years. I will say more about this hire on my podcast next week.
Stay tuned to OAA Now for the latest on this developing story.
