The MHSAA is making some changes which they are adding sports for the first time in two decades.
The MHSAA Representative Council made a few moves. Starting in 2025-2026, girls field hockey and boys volleyball will become MHSAA official sports. Girls field hockey be played in the fall and boys volleyball will be played in the spring. Both sports are club sports but that will change in two years.
They also approved the basketball and soccer districts with all teams being seeded for the districts. Also they approved anyone who shows inappropriate behavior toward officials which could result in suspension for two weeks and complete an online sportsmanship course. The head coach would not be allowed to coach or be present according to the statement from the Representative Council.
The basketball seasons will be shorten but they will still have 22 games along with the postseason.
The boys volleyball divisions will have 69 teams and 11 divisions. The Detroit area west will include FARMINGTON, NORTH FARMINGTON, Lakeland, Walled Lake Northern, and Walled Lake Central. The Detroit area north will have LAKE ORION, CLARKSTON, AVONDALE, ADAMS, Macomb Dakota, and Grand Blanc.
The Representative Council also tweaked the athletic-transfer rule saying that the student would be ineligible in all sports the student participated if that student has transferred to a school where the coach was previously employed or a third party contractor at the athlete's former school.
There are other rules that were mentioned as well and that will be mentioned on the podcast.
