The Pioneers will have a new athletic director to start the school year.
Harper Woods has named three time State Champion football coach Thomas Wilcher as their new athletic director. The move was confirmed by Jeff Corrun of the D-Zone.
Wilcher coached at Detroit Cass Tech and served as the Director of Community and High School Relations at Michigan State under former Coach Mel Tucker from 2021 until 2023.
Wilcher has won three State Championships with the Technicians.
Wilcher brings a ton of football knowledge to an already successful football program at Harper Woods. The Pioneers won the Division Four State crown last season under Coach Rob Oden, who also has been in the Detroit Public School League at Detroit East English Village Prep.
The football program is long been successful but the other athletic programs will be key for Wilcher. Harper Woods has not gotten past the regional semifinals in other sports since entering the OAA in 2023.
It will be very interesting to watch and see how the Pioneers grow under Wilcher.
