Thursday Recap.

Friday's recaps will be on the website.

Cedar Springs 57, AVONDALE 7.

The Jim Carlisle era at Avondale took a big hit on Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets allowed 57 points which was shocking for a proud defense. The Red Hawks got whatever they wanted against Avondale and they shut down the spread offense. Trouble is looming with the Yellow Jackets especially with Seaholm looming next week.

Livonia Franklin 34, BERKLEY 7.

The Bears took a big hit falling 34-7 to the Patriots at Hurley Field. Berkley needs to bounce back in a big way if they want to be competitive for the rest of the season.

Madison Heights Lamphere 17, FERNDALE 14 2 OT

The Eagles offense struggled against the Rams on Thursday night. Coach Donovan Jackson knew their has to be a transition period and it has to happen during the season. Ferndale fought in this game and went double overtime. I'm not pressing any panic buttons with the Eagles, defensively they are fine. Ferndale as a team is fine despite the record.

ROYAL OAK 17, St. Clair Lake Shore 7

The Ravens kept their momentum going with an impressive win in Macomb County. Royal Oak's defense played well holding the Shorians to seven points. There is a ton to clean up for Coach Collin Campbell's team but this is a start to maybe something special.

PONTIAC 20, Pontiac Arts and Tech 6.

This game's recap will be on the website https://aroundtheoaa.weebly.com/

SEAHOLM 31, TROY ATHENS 28.

This was a classic back and fourth game in Troy on Thursday night. The Red Hawks offense is there but the defense is not. The veer is a tough offense to defend and the Maples scored a bunch of points. Both defenses struggled in this game. Troy Athens has the offense to score points but defense is a warning sign. Seaholm we know what they can do with the veer but it's defense is a concern heading into next week.

TROY 17, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 13.

The Colts defense was the story in this game holding the Black Hawks to 13 points in Coach Scott Merchant's debut. The offense is the problem for Bloomfield Hills and scoring 13 points. Troy's defense played well as mentioned. Merchant knows what they need to clean up. The Colts are off to a good start but can they keep it up is the question.

NORTH FARMINGTON 20, Livonia Stevenson 7.

The Raiders got a measure of revenge after what happened in Livonia last season falling 27-20, North Farmington held the Spartans to seven points in a hard fought 20-7 win at Ron Holland Field. The Raiders still have some work to do offensively but the defense looks strong at the moment heading into next week.

ROCHESTER 34, Fraser 0.

The Falcons looked impressive on Thursday holding a Ramblers team scoreless. Fraser has a transition period that has to happen during the season. Rochester looked really good on both sides of the football. Their test comes next week when they play Adams.

GROVES 42, Detroit University Detroit Jesuit 7

The Falcons lost a lot of talent from last season but the new players showed up big time against the Cubs that should be much improved this season. Groves has some big tests coming up but this is a start for Coach Brendan Flaherty's team.

STONEY CREEK 42, Warren Cousino 28.

The Cougars had a test on Thursday against the Patriots in Rochester but Stoney Creek found a way to win 42-28. Offensively the Cougars look solid but defensively is where they need to clean up some things. It's a good start to the season for Stoney Creek but a big challenge awaits with Lake Orion looming next week.

CLARKSTON 38, Belleville 7.

The Wolves were really impressive against the Tigers especially defensively. Clarkston shut me up with their defense, all be it Belleville is very young but it's still Belleville. The Boman twins were dominant, Alex Wasczezko played well and threw a long touchdown pass but the story was the defense which was very impressive. The Tigers are in deep trouble in the KLAA. The Wolves have a big one with Harper Woods on the horizon.

ADAMS 39, Romeo 7.

The Highlanders were really impressive in their stunning blowout win over Romeo. Adams defense was the story shutting down the Bulldogs offense. Ryland Watters was also impressive for Coach Tony Patritto's squad. The Highlanders made a statement up front as well answering questions up front. It was an impressive win that is for sure.

Northville 14, LAKE ORION 13.

Normally I don't question Coach Chris Bell's decision making but this one might be the exception. The Dragons had a chance to win this game with a 43 yard field goal after recovering the onside kick after missing the extra point to tie the game but Bell decided to go for a Hail Mary and the gamble backfired. Lake Orion quarterback Anderson Adams was picked off in the endzone trying to throw to Ryan Rocheleau in double coverage sending them to their fourth straight loss at Wayne State. There was a lot of good to take from this game despite the loss. The perseverance and grit is there and the defense looked good but the offense needs to find their passing attack. There is no reason to panic with the Dragons, they are fine.

WEST BLOOMFIELD 37, Dearborn Fordson 0.

The Lakers defense looked stout shutting out a young Tractors team in the Swamp. West Bloomfield if they can keep improving offensively should be back to their normal selves. They looked dominant especially defensively. The Lakers look to ride that momentum with a game against Southfield Arts and Tech next week.

WATERFORD MOTT 45, Walled Lake Northern 0.

The Corsairs got off to an impressive start in Coach Tre'Jan Seay's debut with an impressive 45-0 win. Waterford Mott is halfway there offensively from last season. The Corsairs have a big test looming with Milford next week.

WATERFORD KETTERING, Walled Lake Central-NL

This game will be recapped on the website https://aroundtheoaa.weebly.com/
