State Champions Crowned.

Oak Park building a dynasty in Girls Track.

The OAA has added another state crown in girls track and field as Oak Park continued their state dominance in the girls at the Division One State Championships. The Knights scored 61 points beating Detroit Cass Tech in a tight meet (61-48) at Rockford winning their fourth straight State crown. West Bloomfield was fourth with 28 points, future member Northville was tied for 13th with 15 points. Rochester was tied for 17th with 13 points, while Lake Orion, Troy, Royal Oak, and future member Novi had 10 points which was tied for 21st. Adams was tied for 28th with nine points while Berkley and outgoing member North Farmington had four points which was tied for 42nd.The balance of the Knights was the difference despite the Technicians keeping it close. In the boys meet East Kentwood edged out Novi Detroit Catholic Central 63-62. Future league members Northville was sixth with 21 points, Novi was tied for 7th with 18 points while Oak Park was tied for 14th with 15 points, Clarkston was tied for 16th with 12 points, outgoing members North Farmington (tied for 27th) had nine points, Farmington had eight points which was tied for 29th. Rochester was tied for 36th with six points, and Troy Athens was tied for 59th with one point.


Harper Woods Boys Wins Division Two State Crown in Boys Track.

The Pioneers won their first Division Two Boys Track State crown on Saturday at Hamilton in the Division Two State Track and Field Championships. Harper Woods scored 47 points winning over Otsego who scored 39 points, Saginaw Swan Valley who scored 35 points, and Frankenmuth who scored 32 points. The Pioneers won the sprint relays (four by one and four by two) and got points in the sprinting events which proved to be the difference behind their proven football athletes. Ferndale or Pontiac did not score in the boys meet. In the girls meet, Ferndale was tied for 42nd with four points while Harper Woods and Pontiac did not score in the girls meet. This is a big confidence boost for Harper Woods and proves the Pioneers aren't just a football powerhouse but can be a track powerhouse as well.


Seaholm Repeats Division Two Girls Tennis.

The Maples were dominant on Thursday afternoon in Midland scoring 33 points while Farmington Hills Mercy and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern had 22 points each. Seaholm won its third State crown in four years. The Maples balance proved to be the difference, and they have 11 juniors coming back next season.


Northville Wins Division One in Girls Tennis.

The Mustangs who will be in the OAA in two years used the doubles to repeat as Division One State Champs holding off Utica Eisenhower in the process. Northville scored 27 points while the Eagles had 23 points. Future league member Novi was tied for third with 18 points, Rochester was seventh with 15 points, Troy was eighth with 14 points, Stoney Creek and Clarkston tied for ninth with 10 points, Adams and Bloomfield Hills tied for 14th with seven points while Troy Athens and West Bloomfield tied for 16th with two points, and outgoing member Farmington did not score and tied for 20th.
