The Troy Athens Red Hawks brought the OAA their third State Championship of the fall season when they went into Grand Ledge and beat Brighton 2-1 in overtime in the Division One State Finals on Saturday night.
The Red Hawks trailed 1-0 to the Bulldogs for most of the game but they got a huge goal from Brody Fahenstock with 1:56 left in the game to send it to overtime.
In the first overtime, Troy Athens got the winner from JD Hupman making the score 2-1 Red Hawks. The Troy Athens defense shut down Brighton the rest of the way earning the crown.
This is the third straight year that a Red school won the State Crown.
It has been a really tough road for Troy Athens this postseason which included wins over Berkley, Troy, Adams, Utica Ford II, Northville, and Brighton and that's not mentioning the Red gauntlet.
The Red Hawks should be very good again next season. Congrats to Troy Athens on winning the Division One State crown in boys soccer.
